Eight people killed by rain in central Sudan

KHARTOUM (Reuters) – The Sudanese authorities announced on Monday that eight people were killed and two others injured in the rains that struck the island state on Friday and Saturday.
The deputy governor of the state, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Mahdi Ali, as he chaired the meeting of the Higher Committee for Emergency Autumn, “to activate the role of civil society organizations in the efforts to confront the fall,” according to the Sudanese News Agency.
“Eight people died, two people were wounded with varying injuries, 100 houses collapsed completely, and 128 partially collapsed,” state police chief Ali Ali Tayeb Mustafa said. He added that “12 government facilities also collapsed, while 196 head of livestock died.”
He called on the National Council for Civil Defense (Hukoomi) to provide more help and support.
On Sunday, a Sudanese organization launched an urgent appeal to donor countries and international and regional organizations to support thousands of people affected by the floods and rains in the country.
Last Tuesday, the Sudanese government announced the death of 3 people and the loss of three others due to the rains and floods that hit the city of Nuhud in western Kordofan state.
While local media reported the deaths of nine people due to rain and floods; and the collapse of thousands of homes in the states of Kassala (east), Aljazeera (central) and West Kordofan.
In 2016, 76 people were killed in Sudan by torrential rains and floods, according to the Sudanese interior.
While the Sudanese Red Crescent announced that some 60,350 citizens were affected by their complete and partial loss of their homes; following floods and rains, 13 of the 18 states were affected.

ودعا نائب والي الولاية، اللواء محمد المهدي علي، لدى ترأسه اجتماع اللجنة العليا لطوارئ الخريف، “لتفعيل دور منظمات المجتمع المدني في الجهود المبذولة لمجابهة الخريف”، حسب وكالة الأنباء السودانية.
وقال مدير شرطة الولاية، اللواء على الطيب مصطفى، إن”8 أشخاص توفوا، وأصيب شخصين بإصابات متفاوتة، فيما انهار 100 منزل كلياً، و128 انهار بشكل جزئي”.
كما أضاف أن “12 مرفقاً حكوميا انهار أيضا، فيما نفقت 196 رأساً من الماشية”.
وناشد مصطفي، وفق الوكالة الرسمية، المجلس القومي للدفاع المدني (حكومي) بتقديم مزيد من العون والدعم.
و أمس الأحد، أطلقت منظمة سودانية، نداءً عاجلًا للدول المانحة والمنظمات الدولية والإقليمية؛ من أجل تقديم الدعم لآلاف المتضررين من السيول والأمطار التي تشهدها البلاد.
والثلاثاء الماضي، أعلنت الحكومة السودانية، وفاة 3 أشخاص، وفقدان 3 آخرين؛ بسبب الأمطار والسيول التي ضربت مدينة النهود بولاية غرب كردفان (جنوب).
فيما نقلت وسائل إعلام محلية وفاة 9 أشخاص جراء الأمطار والسيول؛ وانهيار آلاف المنازل بولايات كسلا (شرق)، والجزيرة (وسط)، وغرب كردفان.
وفي عام 2016 لقي 76 شخصًا مصرعهم في السودان جراء أمطار وسيول اجتاحت البلاد، حسب الداخلية السودانية.
فيما أعلن الهلال الأحمر السوداني آنذاك تضرر نحو 60 ألفًا و350 مواطن بفقدانهم الكامل والجزئي لمنازلهم؛ إثر فيضانات وأمطار، اجتاحت 13 ولاية من أصل 18.
