Belgian airspace reopened after flight data issue disrupts travel

BERLIN (Reuters) – Air travelers faced delays on Thursday after flight space over Belgium was closed temporarily due to a problem with a flight data processing system at Belgium air traffic controller Belgocontrol.
Brussels Airport advised travelers to check the status of their flights after what it said was an “exceptional situation”.
Two hours after Belgocontrol said it was closing air space, it tweeted: “Problem with flight plan data is resolved. Belgian sky totally open again.”
This summer has already seen disruption to air travel, with carriers such as easyJet, Ryanair, IAG and Lufthansa all having said they are cancelling more flights than usual because of air traffic control strikes and staffing issues, plus severe weather.
On Wednesday, flights to and from Britain were disrupted after a Heathrow control tower was evacuated after a fire alarm and British Airways experienced problems with an IT system.
Eurocontrol had experienced a failure of its flight planning processing systems in April, which led to thousands of flight delays across Europe.
Thursday’s incident is down to a Belgocontrol system, Eurocontrol said.

وقالت هيئة مراقبة الملاحة الجوية البلجيكية “بيلجوكونترول”، في بيان لها اليوم، إنها أعادت فتح المجال الجوي لبلجيكا أمام حركة الملاحة الجوية بعد إصلاح الخلل، مشيرة إلى أنها اضطرت، في وقت سابق اليوم، إلى إغلاقه بسبب مشاكل تقنية في تحميل بيانات الرحلات على نظامها.
وذكر السيد آلان نيبس المتحدث باسم “بيلجوكونترول”، في تصريحات له، أن “العمليات تستأنف تدريجيا”، متوقعا أن تعود الأمور إلى طبيعتها خلال فترة المساء، لافتا إلى أنه تم منع طائرات من التحليق في الأجواء البلجيكية و”منع بعضها من الإقلاع كما أجبر بعضها على الهبوط”.
وكانت بلجيكا أغلقت مجالها الجوي بعد خلل معلوماتي تسبب بمشاكل في تنزيل بيانات جدول رحلات الطيران، في حدث وصف بأنه “استثنائي للغاية”، حيث أظهر الموقع الإلكتروني لمطار بروكسل الدولي تأخير عشرات الرحلات وإلغاء أخرى أو تحويل مسارها منذ الرابعة والربع بعد الظهر.
وطال إغلاق المجال الجوي ستة مطارات بلجيكية وكافة الطائرات العابرة لأجواء البلاد حتى ارتفاع ثمانية آلاف متر، وهي منطقة الطيران الخاضعة لإدارة “بيلجوكونترول”.
