PSA Partakes in “Meeting of The Minds” Event at CMU Qatar

Doha: The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), in cooperation with Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar (CMU Qatar), organized a research competition for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Five research projects won the PSA award for their compatibility with the national development strategies of the State of Qatar.
The PSA’s participation in this event comes to encourage CMU Qatar undergraduate and postgraduate students to adopt research projects that serve sustainable development, which are supported by the Qatar National Vision 2030, and the national development strategies of the State of Qatar.
During his participation in the annual “Meeting of The Minds” event, which is organized by CMU Qatar and highlights a wide range of research projects, Assistant to the PSA President Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Nuaimi said that PSA is keen to cooperate with academic institutions in the State of Qatar to encourage its members to conduct research and studies that benefit PSA, the academic institution, the student, and the community.
Al Nuaimi looked forward to further cooperation with the academic and research institutions in a way that contributes to the realization of Qatar National Vision, particularly the pillar of human development, to build a prosperous society.
He congratulated the award-winning students, wishing them more excellence in their university studies and research projects.
The five award-winning research projects are the research “Exploring obesity factors: an analysis using geographic information systems in Qatar” by researcher Maryam Ali Fakhro; “Factors affecting privacy sensitivities on the internet: the case of e-learning in Qatar” by researcher Amal Taymur; “The effect of different extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins on the behavior of prostate cancer cells” by researcher Fatima Al Hammadi; “Breaking barriers and building bridges.. a literature review on the importance of women’s representation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics,” by researchers Premiss Irakos and Malak Annan; “How did hosting the World Cup affect people’s perception of Qatar” by researcher Sarah Al Emadi.

وتأتي مشاركة الجهاز في هذه الفعالية لتشجيع طلاب المرحلة الجامعية الأولى والدراسات العليا بجامعة كارنيجي ميلون على تبني مشاريع بحثية تخدم التنمية المستدامة، التي تدعمها رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030، واستراتيجيات التنمية الوطنية لدولة قطر.
وقال السيد محمد بن عبد العزيز النعيمي مساعد رئيس جهاز التخطيط والإحصاء، خلال مشاركته في فعالية “لقاء العقول” السنوية للبحوث الجامعية، التي تنظمها الجامعة وتسلط الضوء على مجموعة واسعة من المشاريع البحثية: إن الجهاز يحرص على التعاون مع المؤسسات الأكاديمية في دولة قطر لتشجيع منتسبيها على إجراء البحوث والدراسات التي تعود بالنفع على كافة الأطراف؛ الجهاز، والمؤسسة الأكاديمية، والطالب، والمجتمع.
وأضاف: نتطلع لمزيد من العمل المستقبلي معها ومع مؤسساتنا الأكاديمية والبحثية، بما يساهم في تحقيق رؤية قطر التي تستشرف في ركيزة التنمية البشرية إلى تطوير وتنمية سكان دولة قطر؛ ليتمكنوا من بناء مجتمع مزدهر، وهذا التطوير يتم بمثل هذه الأبحاث العلمية التي تتحول لمشاريع عملية تخدم الدولة والمجتمع.
وهنأ النعيمي في ختام حديثه الطلبة الفائزين بالجوائز، وتمنى لهم المزيد من التفوق في دراستهم الجامعية ومشاريعهم البحثية.
وفازت المشاريع البحثية الخمسة التي نفذها الطلاب بجائزة جهاز التخطيط والإحصاء لتوافقها مع استراتيجيات التنمية الوطنية لدولة قطر، وهي بحث “استكشاف عوامل السمنة: تحليل باستخدام نظم المعلومات الجغرافية في قطر” للباحثة مريم علي فخرو، كما فاز بحث “العوامل المؤثرة في حساسيات الخصوصية على الإنترنت: حالة التعلم الإلكتروني في قطر” للباحث أمل تيمور، إضافة إلى فوز بحث “تأثير بروتينات المصفوفة خارج الخلية المختلفة (ECM) على سلوك خلايا سرطان البروستات “للباحثة فاطمة الحمادي، علاوة على بحث “كسر الحواجز وبناء الجسور. مراجعة الأدبيات حول أهمية التمثيل للمرأة في مجالات العلوم والتكنولوجيا والهندسة والرياضيات” للباحثين بريميسز ايراكوس، وملك عنان، فضلا عن بحث “كيف أثرت استضافة كأس العالم على نظرة الناس لقطر” للباحثة سارة العمادي.
