Ashghal Claims 8 International Safety Awards from British Safety Council

Doha: The Public Works Authority’s (Ashghal) Roads Projects Department (RPD) claimed eight international safety awards from the British Safety Council for the Local Areas Infrastructure Program projects in 2023, for the fourth year in a row.

The Roads and Infrastructure Project in Umm Slal (Package 1) won the International Safety Award with Distinction, which is considered the highest grade in this category. Five other projects won the International Safety Award with Merit, and they are: Roads and Infrastructure in Al Wajba East (Packages 1 & 3) with one nomination, Roads and Infrastructure in Al Mearad and Southwest of Muaither (Package 3), Roads and Infrastructure in Jeryan Nejaima, Roads and Infrastructure in Semaisma Village (Package 1), Roads and Infrastructure in Um Slal Ali, Um Ebairiya Village, South Um Al Amad and North Bu Fessela (Package 1). In addition, the Bu Samra Border Crossing Project and the Roads and Infrastructure Project in Al Mearad and Southwest of Muaither (Package 2) received the International Safety Award.

On this occasion, Roads Projects Department Manager, Eng. Saoud Al Tamimi, said: “This consecutive and distinctive win by Ashghal, one year after another, together with the Local Areas Infrastructure Programs, winning 8 international health and safety awards for the fourth year successively, prove the Authoritys success in reinforcing the principle of maintaining health and safety in its construction projects. It also reflects the Authoritys leading position in, and significant impact on, the Qatari construction sector in terms of spreading awareness and disseminating best Health & Safety practices.” Chief Executive Officer of the British Safety Council, Mike Robinson congratulated Ashghal on their success in winning this significant number of International Safety Awards, saying: “The British Safety Council applauds the Public Works Authority on their achievement. The award is in recognition of their commitment and hard work to keep their employees and workplaces free of injury, incidents, and ill health.” He added: “The vision of the British Safety Council is that no-one should be injured or made ill through their work anywhere in the world. Achieving this requires more than complying with legislation; it means people committed not only to health and safety but also more and more to workplace wellbeing.” It’s worth mentioning that these eight awards which the Authority received from the Council will be added to its list of awards in the past three years, winning nine awards in 2022, 4 in 2021, and three in 2020, for the new and existing citizens subdivisions projects.

Over the last 65 years, the International Safety Awards scheme has been recognizing organizations from around the world, which have demonstrated their commitment to preventing workplace injuries and work-related ill health. These organizations are evaluated by the International Safety Awards independent judging panel.

الدوحة: حصدت هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/ ممثلة في إدارة مشاريع الطرق ثماني جوائز دولية للأمن والسلامة من مجلس السلامة البريطاني عن مشاريع برنامج تطوير البنية التحتية للمناطق للعام 2023 للسنة الرابعة على التوالي.

فقد فاز مشروع تطوير الطرق والبنية التحتية في أم صلال (الحزمة الأولى) بجائزة السلامة الدولية بدرجة امتياز والتي تعتبر أعلى درجة تقييم لفئة الجائزة، كما حصلت خمسة مشاريع على جائزة السلامة الدولية بدرجة استحقاق وهي: مشروع تطوير شرق الوجبة (الحزمتين الأولى والثالثة) بترشيح واحد، ومشروع تطوير المعراض وجنوب غرب معيذر (الحزمة الثالثة)، ومشروع جريان نجيمة، ومشروع تطوير قرية سميسمة (الحزمة الأولى)، إلى جانب مشروع تطوير قرية أم العبيرية وجنوب أم العمد وشمال بوفسيلة، كما تم منح كل من مشروع تطوير منفذ بوسمرة الحدودي ومشروع تطوير المعراض وجنوب غرب معيذر (الحزمة الثانية) جائزة السلامة الدولية.

وبهذه المناسبة، أكد المهندس سعود التميمي، مدير إدارة مشاريع الطرق، أن فوز أشغال وتميزها سنة بعد سنة وفوز مشاريع برنامج تطوير البنية التحتية للمناطق بثماني جوائز دولية للصحة والسلامة للسنة الرابعة على التوالي، يؤكد على نجاح الهيئة في ترسيخ مبادئ الحفاظ على الصحة والسلامة في المشاريع التي تنفذها، والمكانة الرائدة التي تشغلها الهيئة في قطاع التشييد والبناء بدولة قطر وتأثيرها على القطاع والناشطين فيه من حيث نشر الوعي وأفضل الممارسات في الصحة والسلامة”.

بدوره، هنأ السيد مايك روبنسون، الرئيس التنفيذي لمجلس السلامة البريطاني /أشغال/ ومشاريعها الفائزة على نجاحها بهذا العدد الهام من الجوائز الدولية للسلامة، قائلا: “يود مجلس السلامة البريطاني تهنئة هيئة الأشغال العامة على تحقيق هذا الإنجاز الهام، حيث تأتي هذه الجوائز تقديرا لالتزامها وجهودها الجادة للحفاظ على سلامة العاملين لديها والحد من الإصابات والحوادث والإصابة بالأمراض داخل أماكن العمل”.

وأضاف أن رؤية مجلس السلامة البريطاني تتمثل في عدم وقوع إصابة أو ضرر لأي فرد أو إصابته بأي مرض أثناء تأدية عمله – في أي مكان في العالم. وتحقيق هذا الهدف يحتاج لما هو أكثر من الالتزام بالقوانين والتشريعات، حيث يتطلب التزام الأشخاص ليس فقط بالصحة والسلامة، ولكن بإعطاء المزيد من الاهتمام بالصحة والرعاية في مناطق العمل.

يذكر أن الجوائز الثماني التي فازت بها هيئة الأشغال العامة من مجلس السلامة البريطاني هذه السنة، تضاف إلى تسع جوائز في 2022 وأربع جوائز في 2021 وثلاث في 2020، حصلت عليها مشاريع أراضي المواطنين الجديدة والمناطق القائمة.

وعلى مدار الـ65 عاما الماضية، تحتفي وتكرم جوائز السلامة الدولية، العديد من المنظمات حول العالم التي تظهر التزامها بمنع إصابات مكان العمل والحفاظ على الصحة المرتبطة بالعمل خلال السنة السابقة وتبرهن على ذلك للجنة التحكيم بالمجلس.
