Qatar Co-organizes 10th IDSDP Celebration

New York: The United Nations (UN) departments of Global Communications and Economic and Social Affairs, in partnership with the permanent delegations of the State of Qatar and the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations, organized an event entitled “Scoring for People and the Planet” at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, as part of the 10th anniversary celebration of the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP).
The event included several key discussions moderated by US sports journalist Tabitha Lipkin, and the participation of Argentine soccer player and vice-president of the Italian Inter Milan FC Javier Zanetti, in addition to a number of sports figures, as well as several UN member states’ permanent representatives and other UN representatives.
HE Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, the Permanent Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Principality of Monaco to the United Nations, participated in a discussion on governments’ role in scoring global goals.
In this regard, Her Excellency stressed during her statement that sustainability was at the heart of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 hosting, pointing out that this edition has transformed the way future World Cup editions and other major sporting events will be organized, thanks to the State of Qatar’s comprehensive sustainability strategy, considered the first of its kind.
During the event, a recorded speech was shown of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 CEO Nasser Fahad Al Khater who said that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 was not just a sports tournament, rather a launch of economic, social, and environmental development in the State of Qatar and the region.
Al Khater referred to the edition’s social role, highlighting that it was an occasion that saw three female referees manage a World Cup football match for the first time ever.

نيويورك: نظمت إدارتا التواصل العالمي، والشؤون الاقتصادية والاجتماعية التابعتان للأمم المتحدة، بالشراكة مع الوفدين الدائمين لدولة قطر وإمارة موناكو لدى الأمم المتحدة، حدثا بعنوان “التهديف من أجل الناس وكوكب الأرض”، في مقر الأمم المتحدة بنيويورك، وذلك في إطار الاحتفال بالذكرى العاشرة لليوم العالمي للرياضة من أجل التنمية والسلام.
وتضمن الحدث عدة مناقشات رئيسية، أدارتها السيدة تابيثا لبكين، الصحفية الرياضية الأمريكية، وشارك فيها السيد خافيير زانيتي، لاعب كرة القدم الأرجنتيني ونائب رئيس نادي إنتر ميلان الإيطالي، وعدد من الشخصيات الرياضية، بالإضافة إلى عدد من المندوبين الدائمين للدول الأعضاء بالأمم المتحدة وممثلين من المنظمة الدولية.
وشاركت سعادة الشيخة علياء أحمد بن سيف آل ثاني، المندوب الدائم لدولة قطر لدى الأمم المتحدة، المندوبين الدائمين لمملكة المغرب، وإمارة موناكو لدى الأمم المتحدة، في مناقشة حول دور الحكومات في التهديف للأهداف العالمية.
وفي هذا الصدد، أدلت سعادتها ببيان أكدت فيه أن الاستدامة كانت في صميم التنظيم لبطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، لافتة إلى أن هذه البطولة غيرت الطريقة التي ستنظم بها مسابقات كأس العالم المستقبلية وغيرها من الأحداث الرياضية الكبرى، وذلك بفضل استراتيجية الاستدامة الشاملة التي اتبعتها دولة قطر، والتي تعتبر الأولى من نوعها.
وعرضت خلال الحدث كلمة مسجلة للسيد ناصر فهد الخاطر، الرئيس التنفيذي لبطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، قال فيها: إن بطولة كأس العالم لم تكن مجرد بطولة رياضية، بل كانت منطلقا للتنمية الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والبيئية لدولة قطر والمنطقة.
وأشار إلى الدور الاجتماعي للبطولة، مسلطا الضوء على إدارة ثلاثة حكام نساء للمرة الأولى لمباراة خلال نسخة كأس العالم بدولة قطر.
