Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) announced on Tuesday plans for setting up 11 food projects at a total cost of QR 27,887,365.
QRCS explained in a statement that the projects aim to ensure food security and meet the needs of 746,974 refugees, displaced persons, and host communities in eight countries, namely: Syria, Yemen, Palestine (Gaza, the West Bank, and Al-Quds), Somalia, Iraq, Jordan, Afghanistan, and Sudan.
QRCS pays great attention to the food security and livelihoods sector, given the catastrophic impacts of disasters and conflicts on the livelihoods and sources of food for affected people. This aggravates their health, economic, and psychological suffering and reduces their recoverability and resilience, particularly amid the climate change and the ensuing desertification, increased soil salinity, smaller agricultural lands, less agricultural crop productivity, and other serious natural phenomena that the whole world is struggling to mitigate, the statement read.
That is why QRCS focuses on the needs of affected communities by providing food; creating income-generating jobs; and supporting agricultural, productive, and entrepreneurial activities. During 2022, food and livelihood projects came third among QRCS’s operations, with a total cost of QR 28,212,437, the statement added.

الدوحة: قال الهلال الأحمر القطري إنه سيقوم بتنفيذ 11 مشروعا في قطاع الغذاء من خلال مكاتبه وبعثاته التمثيلية الخارجية على مدار العام الجاري، وذلك بتكلفة تبلغ حوالي 27 مليونا و887 ألف ريال قطري.
وأوضح في بيان اليوم، أن هدف هذه المشاريع هو تحقيق الأمن الغذائي وتلبية احتياجات 746,974 مستفيداً من اللاجئين والنازحين والمجتمعات المحلية المضيفة في 8 بلدان هي سوريا واليمن وفلسطين (غزة والضفة والقدس) والصومال والعراق والأردن وأفغانستان والسودان.
ونوه الهلال الأحمر القطري بأنه يولي دائما أهمية كبيرة لقطاع الأمن الغذائي وكسب العيش، نظراً لما تسببه الكوارث والنزاعات من آثار فادحة على أرزاق المتضررين ومصادر غذائهم، ما يزيد معاناتهم صحياً واقتصادياً ونفسياً، ويضعف قدرتهم على التعافي والصمود، خاصةً في ظل أزمة التغير المناخي الراهنة، والظواهر الطبيعية الناجمة عنها مثل التصحر، وزيادة نسبة ملوحة التربة، وتقلص المساحات الخضراء، ونقص المحاصيل الزراعية، وغير ذلك من النتائج التي يعمل العالم بأسره على معالجتها والحد منها.
وبين أنه يحرص باستمرار على الاستجابة لمتطلبات المجتمعات المتضررة فيما يتعلق بتوفير الغذاء، وخلق فرص العمل ومصادر الدخل، ودعم الأنشطة الزراعية والإنتاجية وريادة الأعمال، مشيرا إلى أن مشاريع الغذاء وكسب العيش جاءت في المركز الثالث ضمن مشاريعه خلال عام 2022، بتكلفة تجاوزت 28 مليونا و212 ألف ريال.
