QRCS to Launch Shelter Projects for 43,000 Beneficiaries in 6 Countries

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is launching nine shelter projects this year for the benefit of 43,000 persons in Syria, Yemen, Gaza, Niger, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh, at a total cost of over QR 21 million.
This comes part of QRCS’s Ramadan Campaign 1444 AH “Humanity First: Give to Charity.” In northern Syria, a model residential village will be constructed for the earthquake-affected families, comprising 300 homes, a mosque, a school, a health center, facilities, and services. Also, QRCS will support, rehabilitate, and operate four orphanages in northern Syrian villages.

In Yemen, 25 housing units will be constructed for poor families, and 5,440 shelter kits will be distributed to displaced families.

Other development projects include a 25-home residential village for poor families in Niger, 10 80-sqm mosques (each with a capacity of 1,000 persons) and 10 120-sqm mosques (each with a capacity of 1,400 persons) in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, to enable refugees and locals to perform prayer and other religious practices.

In Gaza, 90 poor families and persons with special needs will have their homes restored, maintained, and provided with solar panels.
In Afghanistan, QRCS’s representation office will distribute 1,500 shelter kits to poor Afghan families.

During 2022, the shelter sector ranked second in QRCS’s foreign operations in terms of budget, totaling QR 63,277,524. Among the achievements are the establishment of residential villages and services complexes, construction and restoration of homes, winterization aid, Eid clothing, and distribution of nonfood items (NFIs). A total of 343,667 people benefited from these projects.

In recognition of QRCS’s considerable achievements in the shelter sector, its representation office in Yemen featured among the partners with the highest implementation in the mid-year report of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Shelter Cluster Yemen.
QRCS’s humanitarian interventions in general and its shelter sector projects in particular focus on the activities with maximum benefit for the target groups, while complying with international humanitarian standards and considering the work environment.

الدوحة: ينفذ الهلال الأحمر 9 مشاريع في قطاع الإيواء خلال العام الجاري، لإيواء أكثر من 43 ألف مستفيد في سوريا واليمن وقطاع غزة والنيجر وأفغانستان وبنغلاديش، بتكلفة إجمالية تتجاوز 21 مليون ريال قطري وذلك من خلال حملة رمضان 1444 هـ “الإنسانية أولاً: جودكم إحسان”.

ففي شمال سوريا، سيتم بناء قرية سكنية نموذجية للمتضررين من الزلزال، وتتألف من 300 بيت ومسجد ومدرسة ومركز صحي ومرافق وخدمات، بالإضافة إلى دعم وتأهيل وتشغيل 4 دور أيتام في قرى الشمال السوري.

وفي اليمن، سيتم بناء 25 وحدة سكنية للأسر الفقيرة، وتوزيع 5,440 حزمة مواد إيواء على الأسر النازحة.

وتمتد المشاريع التنموية لتشمل بناء قرية سكنية تتألف من 25 بيتا للأسر الفقيرة في النيجر، وبناء 20 مسجدا في منطقة كوكس بازار ببنغلاديش، لتمكين اللاجئين والأهالي من إقامة الصلاة والشعائر الدينية.

وفي قطاع غزة، سيجري ترميم وصيانة 90 وحدة سكنية للأسر الفقيرة وذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة، بالإضافة إلى تأهيلها بأنظمة الطاقة الشمسية، أما في أفغانستان، فسيقوم المكتب التمثيلي للهلال الأحمر بتوزيع 1500حزمة مواد إيواء على الأسر الأفغانية المحتاجة.

وخلال العام الماضي /2022/ جاء قطاع الإيواء في المركز الثاني بين أعمال الهلال الأحمر الخارجية من حيث حجم الميزانية، بقيمة إجمالية قدرها 63 مليونا و277 ألفا و524 ريالاً وتضمنت مجالات العمل: إنشاء القرى السكنية والمجمعات الخدمية، بناء وترميم البيوت، الإغاثة الشتوية، كسوة العيد، توزيع المواد غير الغذائية واستفاد من هذه المشاريع ما يصل إلى 343,667 شخصاً في 17 بلداً.

وانعكاساً لاهتمام الهلال الأحمر بقطاع الإيواء، تم اختيار مكتبه التمثيلي في اليمن ضمن أفضل المنظمات الإنسانية المنفذة لمشاريع الإيواء، وذلك ضمن التقرير الصادر عن كتلة الإيواء التابعة لمكتب الأمم المتحدة لتنسيق الشؤون الإنسانية /أوتشا/ لتقييم أداء شركاء العمل الإنساني في اليمن خلال النصف الأول من عام 2022.

ويركز الهلال الأحمر في تدخلاته الإنسانية بشكل عام، ومشاريع الإيواء بشكل خاص، على تحديد الأنشطة الأكثر جدوى للمستفيدين، مع الالتزام بالمعايير الإنسانية الدولية ومراعاة بيئة العمل.
