9 things that distinguish Hamad International Airport

Waiting for your flight at the airport can usually be boring, but this modern airport in Qatar may change your mind, CNN reports.

In a report on the airport, the site noted that Doha’s Hamad International Airport ranked first in 2021 in the category of “Best Airport in the World” at this year’s prestigious Skytrax International Awards.

Here’s what makes this airport special according to the website:

1. The airport, which opened in 2014, aims to transform Doha into a global aviation centre with Qatar Airways. Today, it handles more than 30 million passengers annually.

2. When walking around the airport, you will feel as if you have entered an exhibition thanks to the interesting works of art that spread through it.

3. The airport prides itself on embracing the work of contemporary, and sometimes controversial artists, including the large yellow bear sculpture Lamp Bear by Swiss artist Urs Fischer.

4. The official website of the Government of Qatar portal “Hukoomi”, confirmed that the airport offers its passengers “a unique and exciting experience in celebrating the heritage and culture of the region, hosting a series of permanent and seasonal exhibitions, in harmony with the manifestations of local cultural heritage with different artistic creations from the world”.

5. Surprises don’t stop at exciting artwork, as the airport also hosts modern restaurants, entertainment and relaxation facilities.

6. Passengers can do some exercise in the airport gym, or even swim.

7. If travellers need a break, they can book small rooms or a family suite.

8. For those who want to spend time watching movies, they can do this in a private cinema.

9. The airport is home to Qatar Airways, one of the fastest airlines in the world, according to the Qatar Government’s e-portal.

وأشار الموقع – في تقرير له عن المطار – إلى أن مطار حمد الدولي في الدوحة حصل على المركز الأول في عام 2021 في فئة “أفضل مطار في العالم” ضمن جوائز Skytrax العالمية المرموقة لهذا العام.

إليك ما يجعل هذا المطار مميزاً .. بحسب الموقع :

1. يهدف المطار، الذي افتتح في عام 2014، إلى تحويل مدينة الدوحة لمركز عالمي للطيران بخدمة الخطوط الجوية القطرية، وهو يتعامل اليوم مع أكثر من 30 مليون مسافر سنوياً.

2. عند التجول داخل المطار، سيشعر المرء كما لو أنه دخل معرضاً بفضل الأعمال الفنية المثيرة للاهتمام التي تنتشر عبره.

3. يفتخر المطار باحتضانه أعمال فنانين معاصرين، ومثيرين للجدل أحياناً، وتتضمن الأعمال الفنية مجسم الدب الأصفر الكبير الذي يُدعى Lamp Bear للفنان السويسري أورس فيشر.
