Experts Laude Qatar’s Great Efforts in Achieving Sustainable Development in LDSs

Doha: A number of climate change and environment experts praised the great efforts made by the State of Qatar in achieving sustainable development in the least developed countries, in a way that supports the aspirations of the United Nations through its developmental programs, stressing the need to include youth in the decision-making process and to add climate change problems to the curricula for students in order to provide educational courses that are environmentally friendly and highlight the importance of confronting climate change.
During a panel discussion held on the sidelines of the Fifth UN Conference for the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), under the title: “Unleashing the Power of Youth: Supporting Youth-led Climate Action in the LDC,” the experts stressed the need to support youth-led climate action in LDC, calling on governments to provide ideas in support of the Doha Work Program, which presents meaningful development ideas, and to give opportunities to the youth and children and deal with them as partners in the decision-making process.
They reviewed the most prominent initiatives and programs that have been presented in order to confront climate change and reduce its risks, emphasizing that there is an absolute necessity to activate the role of youth leaders, support them, and develop their skills by working to confront climate problems.
The experts expressed hope for the role of youth in assuming responsibility and bearing the difficulties in order to bring about the required change regarding climate action.
They noted that the current stage necessitates the concerned and responsible authorities to provide additional assistance and efforts due to the problems of climate change, pointing out to the importance of giving priority to the file of confronting climate change and presenting programs, initiatives and practical steps that contribute to the development of policies to adapt to the climate.
In turn, HE Minister of Education, Youth and Sports of the Kingdom of Cambodia affirmed that the file of climate change and its negative repercussions has become one of the most prominent and important challenges that countries face today, indicating that the damages and risks have negatively affected the economic and development conditions, so that this crisis remains in constant need of assistance and support.
His Excellency indicated that Cambodia’s priorities lie in enhancing a development plan that seeks to develop youth and enhance their skills. He reviewed some of the projects and plans presented by his country in order to promote youth initiatives, and other positive measures that have been taken in this regard.
He pointed out that the Ministry of Education in Cambodia launched national plans and ambitious programs, and integrated education with climate change studies, especially with regard to the master’s degree in climate change, in addition to encouraging competition programs related to climate change, evaluating the status of clean water and planting trees that support resilience in the presence of climate changes.

الدوحة: أشاد عدد من الخبراء المعنيين بالتغير المناخي والبيئة، بالجهود الكبيرة التي تبذلها دولة قطر في تحقيق التنمية المستدامة في الدول الأقل نموا، بشكل يدعم طموحات وتطلعات الأمم المتحدة من خلال برامجها التنموية والإنمائية، مشددين على ضرورة إدماج الشباب في عملية صنع القرار وإضافة مشاكل تغير المناخ ضمن المناهج الدراسية للطلبة من أجل تقديم مساقات تعليمية صديقة للبيئة، وتسلط الضوء على أهمية مواجهة التغير المناخي.
وشدد الخبراء، خلال جلسة نقاشية أقيمت على هامش أعمال مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الخامس لصالح البلدان الأقل نموا، تحت عنوان: “إطلاق العنان لقوة الشباب: دعم العمل المناخي الذي يقوده الشباب في أقل البلدان نموا”، على ضرورة دعم العمل المناخي الذي يقوده الشباب في أقل البلدان نموا، داعين الحكومات إلى تقديم الأفكار المساندة لبرنامج عمل الدوحة الذي يطرح أفكارا تنموية هادفة، ومنح الفرصة الخلاقة لفئة الشباب والأطفال والتعامل معهم كشركاء في عملية صنع القرار، لا سيما أن تلك الفئة تعمل عن كثب وكل ما في وسعها على أن تكون قريبة من راسمي وصانعي السياسات.
واستعرضوا أبرز المبادرات والبرامج التي تم تقديمها في سبيل مواجهة التغير المناخي والتقليص من مخاطره، معتبرين أن هناك ضرورة قصوى لتفعيل دور القيادات الشبابية ودعمها ومساندتها وتنمية مهاراتها بالعمل نحو مواجهة المشكلات المناخية.
وأعرب الخبراء عن أملهم بدور الشباب بتولي المسؤولية وتحمل المصاعب من أجل إحداث التغيير المطلوب بشأن العمل المناخي، وتصدر الأدوار الهامة والرئيسية بهذا الشأن، منوهين بأن فئة الشباب الأكثر تحملا لتداعيات هذه الأزمة، بالإشارة إلى وجود مؤشر خطير بشأن تعرض الأطفال للمخاطر التنموية والصدمات بسبب التغيرات المناخية.
ونوهوا بأن المرحلة الحالية تحتم على الجهات المعنية والمسؤولة تقديم مساعدات إضافية وجهود مضاعفة بسبب مشاكل تغير المناخ، مشيرين إلى أهمية منح الأولوية لملف مواجهة التغير المناخي وتقديم البرامج والمبادرات والخطوات العملية التي تساهم بوضع السياسات من أجل التكيف مع المناخ.
بدوره، أكد سعادة السيد سيلس نوس وزير التعليم والشباب والرياضة في مملكة كمبوديا، أن ملف التغيرات المناخية وتداعياته السلبية بات من أبرز وأهم التحديات التي تواجهها البلدان اليوم، مشيرا إلى أن الأضرار والمخاطر انعكست سلبا على الأوضاع الاقتصادية والتنموية، لتبقى هذه الأزمة بحاجة مستمرة إلى المساعدة والمساندة.
وأشار سعادته إلى أن أولويات كمبوديا تكمن بوضع خطة تنموية تسعى لتطوير تنمية الشباب وتعزيز مهاراتهم، مستعرضا بعض المشاريع والخطط التي قدمتها بلاده من أجل تعزيز المبادرات الشبابية، وغيرها من الإجراءات الإيجابية التي تم اتخاذها في هذا الصدد، من بينها إطلاق وزارة التربية والشباب خطة لدمج عملية التطوع، إضافة إلى منح الحرية الكاملة للمشاركة بالنشاطات التي تعد موجودة في المناهج الدراسية.
ولفت إلى أن وزارة التعليم في كمبوديا أطلقت خططا وطنية وبرامج طموحة، ودمجت التعليم بالتغير المناخي بالدراسات وخاصة فيما يتعلق بدرجة الماجستير بالتغير المناخي، إضافة إلى تشجيع برامج المسابقات المتعلقة بالتغير المناخي، وتقييم وضع الماء النظيف وزراعة الأشجار التي تدعم الصمود في وجود التغيرات المناخية، بالإشارة إلى عقد مجموعة من الشراكات لمواجهة هذا الملف.
