“Qatar Has Significant Role in Assisting LDCs”

Doha: HE Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong stressed the outstanding role played by the State of Qatar in assisting the least developed countries (LDCs), praising its hosting of the Fifth UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which convenes in Doha and aims to set plans and programs to advance development in LDCs and bring together points of view.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Chungong pointed to the parliamentarians’ role, whether at the level of implementing recommendations on the ground through enacting laws and legislation or through research and securing funding sources for implementing the agreed projects.
IPU Secretary-General said that the parliamentarians’ meeting on Saturday must discuss the participation of parliaments in comprehensive development, which satisfies not only developed countries but also LDCs.
He added that the meeting would also discuss the contributions of different entities of the community, pointing out that the meeting includes many discussions on empowering women and youth.
Chungong added that the parliamentarians meeting in Doha would contribute strongly to the discussions to develop recommendations that help the poorest countries get out of their situations.

الدوحة: أكد سعادة السيد مارتن تشونغونغ، الأمين العام للاتحاد البرلماني الدولي، على الدور الكبير الذي تلعبه دولة قطر في مساعدة الدول الأقل نموا، مثنيا على استضافتها مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة الخامس المعني بأقل البلدان نموا، الذي ينطلق بالدوحة، والذي يساعد على وضع الخطط والبرامج لدفع التنمية في البلدان الأقل نموا، والتقريب بين وجهات النظر.
ولفت تشونغونغ، في تصريح خاص لوكالة الأنباء القطرية /قنا/، إلى الدور الذي يلعبه البرلمانيون سواء على مستوى تنزيل التوصيات على أرض الواقع من خلال سن القوانين والتشريعات، أو من خلال البحث وتأمين مصادر التمويل لتنفيذ المشاريع المتفق عليها.
وقال الأمين العام للاتحاد البرلماني الدولي: إنه من الضروري في اجتماع البرلمانيين اليوم البحث في مسألة مشاركة البرلمانات في التنمية الشاملة، أي تلك التنمية التي ترضي، لا فقط الدول المتقدمة، بل أيضا البلدان الأقل نموا، وهي توجه مهم للغاية، كذلك نود أن نبحث في كيفية مساهمة الكيانات المختلفة داخل المجتمع؛ ولذلك سنعقد العديد من المناقشات حول مسألة تمكين المرأة، وتمكين الشباب.
وأضاف أن البرلمانيين المجتمعين في الدوحة سيساهمون بقوة في النقاشات التي تهدف إلى الخروج بتوصيات تقدم الإضافة، وتساعد الدول الأكثر فقرا على خروج من الوضعيات الموجودة فيها.
