Qatar Joins Executive Board of UN-Women for First Time

New York: The State of Qatar participated, for the first time, in the proceedings of the first session of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women’s (UN-Women) Executive Board.
Addressing the session, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani expressed Qatar’s happiness to join the Executive Board of UN-Women, driven by the commitment of the State and its wise leadership to the issue of women empowerment and gender equality, which is reflected in the many achievements made by the State of Qatar in this field, at the national, regional and international levels.
Through its membership in the Board, and driven by the belief in the importance of the leading role played by the UN-Women in advancing the status of women, the State of Qatar will be keen to devote efforts for accelerating progress in meeting the needs of women and girls, and advancing the status of women around the world, Her Excellency said.
In light of the multiple challenges currently facing the world, women and girls must be placed at the center of the sustainable development plan, she said underlining the importance of prioritizing the rights of girls and women to education, protection and care, especially in conflict areas and areas affected by natural disasters.
In her speech before the Council, HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani expressed Qatar’s aspiration to work and cooperate with the Executive Board of the UN-Women during the coming period in order to effectively contribute to the efforts aimed at advancing the status of women in all aspects of life and at all levels.

نيويورك: شاركت دولة قطر، للمرة الأولى، في أعمال الدورة الأولى للمجلس التنفيذي لهيئة الأمم المتحدة للمساواة بين الجنسين وتمكين المرأة.
وأعربت سعادة الشيخة علياء أحمد بن سيف آل ثاني المندوبة الدائمة لدولة قطر لدى الأمم المتحدة، في كلمة أمام المجلس، عن سعادة قطر بالانضمام للمجلس التنفيذي لهيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة للمرة الأولى، والذي يأتي انطلاقا من اهتمام والتزام الدولة وقيادتها الحكيمة بمسألة تمكين المرأة وتحقيق المساواة بين الجنسين، الذي يتجلى في العديد من الإنجازات التي حققتها دولة قطر في هذا المجال، سواء على المستوى الوطني أو الإقليمي والدولي.
وأكدت سعادتها حرص دولة قطر، من خلال عضويتها في هذا المجلس، على تكريس الجهود من أجل تسريع التقدم في تلبية احتياجات النساء والفتيات، والنهوض بوضع المرأة في جميع أنحاء العالم، وذلك إيمانا بأهمية الدور القيادي العالمي الذي تضطلع به هيئة الأمم المتحدة للمرأة من أجل النهوض بوضع المرأة.
كما أشارت إلى أنه في ظل التحديات المتعددة التي يواجهها العالم في هذه الأوقات، يجب وضع النساء والفتيات في صلب عمل خطة التنمية المستدامة، والتركيز على إعطاء الأولوية لحق الفتيات والنساء في التعليم والحماية والرعاية، خاصة في مناطق النزاعات وبالمناطق المتأثرة من الكوارث الطبيعية.
وعبرت سعادة الشيخة علياء أحمد بن سيف آل ثاني، في كلمتها أمام المجلس، عن تطلع دولة قطر للعمل والتعاون مع المجلس التنفيذي للجنة وضع المرأة خلال الفترة المقبلة؛ من أجل المساهمة بشكل فعال في الجهود الرامية إلى النهوض بوضع المرأة في جميع مناحي الحياة، وعلى المستويات كافة.
