QFFD Renews Commitment to Support UNESCOs Heritage Emergency Fund

Doha: Following its previous contributions, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) is contributing USD 500,000 in 2023 to continue supporting UNESCOs efforts in safeguarding culture in emergencies. This contribution is part of QFFD’s commitment to supporting the Heritage Emergency Fund.
“With the rise of conflict and disasters, the world is not only losing the unique records of our past of significant historical, aesthetic, and scientific value, but we are losing an excellent opportunity for essential resources for sustainable development in many societies where the preservation of cultural heritage helps the solidarity of communities post wars and disasters and supports the reconstruction and resilience of the affected society.
We are confident that with this contribution, we will play a role in safeguarding the cultural heritage that is in danger of being lost forever due to disasters, conflicts, and neglect,” said Deputy-Director General of Projects at QFFD Sultan Al Aseeri.
“The UNESCO Heritage Emergency Fund has supported 79 countries to assess, secure, and safeguard heritage at risk and promote cultural life and creativity. By protecting culture, the Fund is a critical tool for UNESCO to deploy rapid preparedness and response activities in time of crisis, contributing to social cohesion and supporting communities in building their resilience.
In this regard, I wish to acknowledge the commitment of Qatar over the years and welcome its renewed contribution. I would also like to take the opportunity to invite other partners to join our actions in supporting UNESCO during the year 2023,” stated Assistant Director-General for Culture of UNESCO Ernesto Ottone Ramirez.
This QFFD contribution complements its previous contributions, a total of USD 4 million since 2015, affirming the State of Qatars commitment to preserving peace and development worldwide.
Established in 2015, the Heritage Emergency Fund supports countries in strengthening their preparedness and response capacity to prevent, mitigate, and support recovery where culture has been affected by conflicts and disasters.

الدوحة: قدم صندوق قطر للتنمية دعما جديدا بـ500 ألف دولار، لصندوق اليونسكو لحماية التراث في حالات الطوارئ، وذلك في إطار حرص الصندوق على مواصلة مساهماته الداعمة لجهود /اليونسكو/ في حماية الثقافة.
وقال السيد سلطان العسيري نائب المدير العام للمشاريع بصندوق قطر للتنمية، بهذه المناسبة، إنه “مع تصاعد النزاعات والكوارث، لا تنحصر الخسائر في السجلات الفريدة للماضي، والتي تتسم بقيمة تاريخية وجمالية وعلمية لا يستهان بها، بل نفقد أيضا فرصة ممتازة من الموارد الأساسية للتنمية المستدامة في العديد من المجتمعات”.
وأضاف أن “الحفاظ على التراث الثقافي يساعد على تضامن المجتمعات بعد الحروب والكوارث، ويدعم إعادة بناء وصمود المجتمعات المتضررة، ونحن واثقون أن هذه المساهمة ستساعدنا على لعب دور مميز في حماية التراث الثقافي المعرض لخطر الضياع، بسبب الكوارث والنزاعات والإهمال”.
ومن جانبه، أشار السيد إرنستو أوتون راميريز، المدير العام المساعد للثقافة بـ/اليونسكو/، إلى الدعم الذي قدمه صندوق اليونسكو لحماية التراث في حالات الطوارئ لـ79 دولة، من أجل تقييم التراث المعرض للخطر، وتأمينه وحمايته، وتعزيز الحياة الثقافية والإبداع.
وقال إنه “بفضل حمايته للثقافة، يعد الصندوق إحدى الأدوات المهمة لليونسكو في نشر التأهب والاستجابة السريعة في أوقات الأزمات، والمساهمة أيضا في الحفاظ على التماسك الاجتماعي ودعم المجتمعات في بناء قدرتها على الصمود”.. معربا عن تقديره وامتنانه لما أبدته دولة قطر من التزام على مر السنين. وأضاف: “أرحب بمساهمتها المتجددة، وأود أن أغتنم الفرصة لدعوة شركاء آخرين للانضمام إلى أعمالنا في دعم اليونسكو خلال العام الجاري”.
ويأتي هذا الدعم من صندوق قطر للتنمية استكمالا لمساهمات الصندوق السابقة، والبالغة 4 ملايين دولار منذ 2015، ويترجم التزام دولة قطر بدعم حماية التراث، والحفاظ على السلام والتنمية بجميع أرجاء العالم.
وتأسس صندوق اليونسكو لحماية التراث في حالات الطوارئ في 2015، بهدف تعزيز قدرة أقل البلدان نموا على التأهب والتصدي، منعا لوقوع خسائر في التراث الثقافي، بفعل النزاعات والكوارث، والتخفيف من حدتها.
