Kahramaa, SC Launch ‘Sustainability Zone’ Initiative for World Cup Fans

Doha: Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), in cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), launched the “Sustainability Zone” initiative in the Kahramaa Awareness Park, to introduce the FIFA World Cup fans to the environmental sustainability efforts associated with hosting the tournament.

The “Zone Sustainability” initiative will help fans be briefed on the various projects, initiatives and operations led by Kahramaa and the SL in the field of sustainability and combating climate change over the past ten years.

The opening saw the display of a mural telling the history of electricity and water in the State of Qatar and the launch of Carbon Zone and climate change in the park’s inner building, which includes a dome that displays the climate change impacts and the danger of carbon emissions to life, along with a number of educational devices to educate visitors on how to calculate their carbon footprint, and explain the elements of a healthy, balanced and sustainable lifestyle, in an interactive, entertaining and educational manner.

The activities and sections of the “Sustainability Zone” are designed to raise the level of environmental awareness among attendees, by introducing them to the latest methods, practices and technologies used to increase energy efficiency, rationalize consumption, and reduce carbon emissions, and inform them of various initiatives aimed at protecting the environment and contributing to the achievement of sustainability goals in a bid to reach carbon neutrality.

The initiative also includes a section dedicated to recycling, in cooperation with the Seashore Company, where it presents modern recycling mechanisms, arts and other related initiatives. A variety of sustainability products are also available in the Sustainability Bazaar.

HE President of Kahramaa, Issa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, said in his opening speech that this initiative represents an opportunity to inform the world of the great efforts made by the State of Qatar to achieve environmental sustainability, within the framework of the objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change 2021-2026.

His Excellency added that the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 hosting represented a great opportunity to push sustainability efforts forward, and accelerate the transition to renewable energy sources and less harmful carbon emissions, as sustainability and carbon neutrality were among the main axes in the World Cup bid.

Kahramaa Chairman hailed the joint work and fruitful partnership with the SL, pointing out that the initiative’s first and main section is devoted to reviewing the SL’s efforts, in cooperation with KAHRAMAA in this context. This includes displaying 3D models of World Cup stadiums, all their sustainability aspects, and initiatives with a number of sustainability partners in the State of Qatar, such as the Seashore Group’s plastic recycling initiative, and other initiatives related to energy efficiency, renewable energy, and electric vehicles.

For his part, HE Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Hassan Al Thawadi said that Kahramaa played a part in the success of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, by providing the competition with its electricity and water needs. He expressed his delight with the launch of the sustainability zone, adding that he expects it to play a part in informing visitors of all of SC’s achievements in the field of sustainability.

Head of Kahramaa’s Tarsheed Eng. Rashid Al Rahimi highlighted the importance of the initiative, highlighting to the great role that football, as the world’s most popular game, can play in drawing attention to issues of sustainability and the importance of protecting the environment. He said that the zone will have a large screen displaying the matches for fans. Al Rahimi said that the park includes a section for interactive games aimed at all ages, where football combines with sustainability. He also said that there is an entire section for learning and innovation which covers aspects related to energy efficiency and climate change, and the definition of the goals of the United Nations for sustainability, Indicating that there is a participation of the University of Texas and Hamad Bin Khalifa University, as well as a group of young inventors from the Qatar Science Club, during which lectures and models of projects related to sustainability and new innovations in this field will be held.

For her part, Sustainability Director at Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Bodour Al Meer said that the SC and Kahramaa have been cooperating since 2017 on an energy rationalization program for schools. She added that Kahramaa also equipped all stadiums with charging stations for Electric Vehicles.

The Kahramaa Awareness Park is open until Dec. 18. It operates from 8 AM to noon, and then from 4 PM to 8 PM.

الدوحة: أطلقت المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء /كهرماء/، اليوم، بالتعاون مع اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، مبادرة /زون الاستدامة/ في حديقة كهرماء للتوعية، لتعريف جمهور كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022 بجهود الاستدامة البيئية المرافقة لاستضافة البطولة.

وستمكن مبادرة /زون الاستدامة/ الجمهور من الاطلاع على المشاريع والمبادرات والعمليات المختلفة التي قادتها /كهرماء/ واللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث في مجال الاستدامة ومكافحة التغير المناخي خلال السنوات العشر الماضية.

وخلال الافتتاح جرى استعراض جدارية تحكي تاريخ الكهرباء والمياه بدولة قطر، ثم تدشين زون الكربون والتغير المناخي (Carbon Zone) في المبنى الداخلي للحديقة، والذي يتضمن قبة تعرض تأثيرات التغيرات المناخية، وخطورة الانبعاثات الكربونية على الحياة، إلى جانب عدد من الأجهزة التعليمية لتوعية الزوار بكيفية حساب بصمتهم الكربونية، وتوضيح عناصر أسلوب الحياة الصحي المتوازن والمستدام، وذلك بأسلوب تفاعلي ترفيهي وتعليمي.

وقد صُمّمت فعاليات وأقسام /زون الاستدامة/ لرفع مستوى الوعي البيئي لدى الحضور، من خلال تعريفهم بأحدث الأساليب والممارسات والتقنيات المستخدمة لزيادة استخدامات كفاءة الطاقة، وترشيد الاستهلاك، وخفض معدل الانبعاثات الكربونية، وإطلاعهم على مختلف المبادرات الرامية إلى حماية البيئة، والمساهمة في تحقيق أهداف الاستدامة، وصولاً إلى الحياد الكربوني الكامل.

كما تشمل المبادرة قسماً مخصصاً بإعادة التدوير، بالتعاون مع شركة شاطئ البحر/ Seashore/ حيث يعرض آليات حديثة لإعادة التدوير وفنون ومبادرات متعلقة بها. وتتوفر أيضاً في /بازار الاستدامة/ مجموعة متنوعة من منتجات الاستدامة.

وقال سعادة المهندس عيسى بن هلال الكواري رئيس المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء /كهرماء/، في كلمة له بالافتتاح: إن هذه المبادرة تمثل فرصة سانحة لتعريف العالم بالجهود الكبيرة التي تبذلها دولة قطر لتحقيق الاستدامة البيئية، وذلك في إطار أهداف رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030، واستراتيجية قطر الوطنية للبيئة والتغير المناخي 2021 – 2026.

وأضاف سعادته: “مثلت استضافة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022 فرصة كبيرة لدفع جهود الاستدامة إلى الأمام، وتسريع الانتقال إلى مصادر الطاقة المتجددة والأقل في الانبعاثات الكربونية الضارة، حيث كانت الاستدامة وحيادية الكربون من المحاور الرئيسية في ملف الاستضافة ومنذ اللحظة الأولى لفوز قطر بها”.

وأشاد رئيس /كهرماء/ بالعمل المشترك والشراكة المثمرة مع اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، مشيراً إلى أن القسم الأول والرئيسي من المبادرة مخصص لاستعراض جهود اللجنة العليا، بالتعاون مع /كهرماء/ في هذا الإطار، إذ يجري عرض مجسمات ملاعب بطولة كأس العالم، وتفصيل جميع جوانب الاستدامة بها. كما يجري التطرق لمبادرات مع عدد من شركاء الاستدامة في دولة قطر، مثل مبادرة مجموعة شاطئ البحر لإعادة تدوير البلاستيك، ومبادرات أخرى تتعلق بكفاءة الطاقة، والطاقة المتجددة، والمركبات الكهربائية.

من جانبه، قال سعادة السيد حسن عبد الله الذوادي الأمين العام للجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث، في كلمة مماثلة عند افتتاح /زون الاستدامة/: “أسهمت المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء في إنجاح بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، من خلال إمدادنا باحتياجاتنا من الكهرباء والماء اللازمة للبطولة”، معربا عن سروره لحضور حفل تدشين /زون الاستدامة/، والتي يرى أنها ستساهم في إطلاع زوار وسكان قطر كافة على إنجازات اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث في مجال الاستدامة.

وفي سياق متصل، أكد المهندس راشد الرحيمي مدير إدارة الترشيد وكفاءة الطاقة /ترشيد/ بـ/كهرماء/، أهمية هذه المبادرة، مشيرا إلى الدور الكبير الذي يمكن لكرة القدم بصفتها اللعبة الشعبية الأولى عالميا أن تلعبه في لفت الانتباه إلى قضايا الاستدامة وأهمية حماية البيئة، مبرزا في هذا الصدد وجود شاشة عملاقة تعرض مباريات البطولة ليتمكن الحضور من الاستمتاع بها في أجواء حماسية يستكمل بعدها رحلته مع الاستدامة في حديقة كهرماء للتوعية.

وأضاف أن استضافة قطر هذا الحدث العالمي منحت /كهرماء/ منصة مهمة وقدرة أكبر على التأثير والوصول، وهو ما جرت الاستفادة منه بنشر مفاهيم الترشيد وممارساته، وتطوير الوعي بقضايا الاستدامة البيئية بالتوافق مع أهداف الاستراتيجية الوطنية، وكذلك الأهداف الاستراتيجية العالمية للاستدامة والتنمية، وفقاً للأمم المتحدة.

وذكر الرحيمي أن الحديقة تتضمن قسما للألعاب التفاعلية لمختلف الأعمار، حيث تجمع كرة القدم مع الاستدامة، لتحقيق الاستمتاع والفائدة في آن معا، كما جرى تخصيص قسم كامل للتعلم والابتكار والمعلومات العامة، التي تغطي جوانب متعلقة بكفاءة الطاقة والتغير المناخي، والتعريف بأهداف الأمم المتحدة للاستدامة، مبينا أن هناك مشاركة لجامعة تكساس وجامعة حمد بن خليفة، وكذلك مجموعة من الشباب المخترعين من النادي العلمي القطري ستقام من خلالها محاضرات واستعراض مجسمات لمشاريع خاصة بالاستدامة والابتكارات الجديدة في هذا المجال.

بدورها، قالت المهندسة بدور المير المدير التنفيذي لإدارة الاستدامة في اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث: “يعد برنامج ترشيد 22 للطاقة المتجددة للمدارس، والذي جرى إطلاقه في عام 2017 بداية التعاون مع المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء، ومنذ ذلك الحين قُدمت العديد من المشاريع المشتركة بين اللجنة العليا للمشاريع والإرث و/كهرماء/، وكمثال على ذلك تساهم /كهرماء/ بتقليل استخدام مولدات الطاقة المؤقتة التي تعمل بالديزل في جميع استادات المونديال، من خلال توسيع الشبكة، وإمدادنا بالطاقة اللازمة خلال البطولة. وبالإضافة إلى ذلك قامت المؤسسة العامة القطرية للكهرباء والماء بتركيب محطات شحن للسيارات الكهربائية في مواقع الاستادات كافة”.

يشار إلى أن حديقة “كهرماء للتوعية” تفتح أبوابها للزوار حتى 18 من شهر ديسمبر الجاري، وذلك من الساعة 8 صباحاً وحتى 12 ظهراً، ومن الساعة 4 حتى الـ 8 مساءً.
