Ashghal Completes Rainwater, Groundwater Drainage Network in Al Thumama

Doha: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) announced the completion of construction works of the rainwater and groundwater network in Al Thumama area (Zone 46) with a total length of 26 km covering 50 streets. This newly constructed network is part of the stormwater and ground water infrastructure development project in areas South of Doha, which aims to reduce rainwater accumulation and control the groundwater level in the area.
On this occasion, Eng. Khalid Al Khayareen, Drainage Network Projects Department Manager, stressed the importance of the development works that are implemented, as Al Thumama area is one of the vital areas in the country that is witnessing great urban and population growth. The location of the works increases the projects importance as they are implemented near Al Thumama Stadium, one of the eight stadiums hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Eng. Khalid Al Khayareen explained that the new network would accommodate rainwater flows from Al Thumama (Zone 46) to Abu Hamour Tunnel through Al Najma Tunnel and transfer it to the main drainage network. This will contribute to reducing rainwater accumulation, meeting the needs of the population and improving the quality of life and environmental conditions in the area.
On the scope of works, Eng. Hassan Mohsen, Head of the Drainage Networks Projects Section at Ashghal, stated that a total of 26 km of surface and groundwater drainage network pipes have been installed, at a depth ranging between 5 and 26 metres below the ground surface. This is divided into 9 km of rainwater drainage network lines, which are implemented using deep micro-tunneling technique to mitigate the effects of excavation works on the traffic and residents of the area. In addition to about 17 km of shallow rainwater drainage network lines, of which 5 km are perforated lines that will also serve to control the level of groundwater.
Eng. Hassan Mohsen added that about 97% of the construction works of the rainwater and groundwater drainage network in Al Thumama (Area 46) have been completed and the final works are currently being completed to inspect the network and implement road reinstatement works. He explained that the new network covers 50 streets, most notably the E-Ring Road, Najma Street, Al Thumama Street, Al Quds Street, Al Madinah Street and Masjed Al Haram Street. The network also serves Kahramaa Awareness Park and Al Furjan markets in the area.
Works also included the construction of 50 manholes and 200 gullies, in addition to connecting more than 1,500 existing gullies to the new network to enhance its efficiency.

الدوحة: انتهت هيئة الأشغال العامة /أشغال/ من تنفيذ أعمال إنشاء شبكة تصريف مياه الأمطار والمياه الجوفية في منطقة الثمامة /المنطقة 46/ بطول إجمالي حوالي 26 كيلومترا، حيث تغطي 50 شارعا، وذلك كجزء من أعمال مشروع تطوير البنية التحتية لتصريف مياه الأمطار والمياه الجوفية في مناطق جنوب الدوحة، والذي يهدف إلى تقليل تجمع مياه الأمطار والتحكم في منسوب المياه الجوفية بالمنطقة.
وبهذه المناسبة، أكد المهندس خالد الخيارين مدير إدارة مشروعات شبكات الصرف الصحي في /أشغال/، على أهمية أعمال التطوير التي تم تنفيذها، حيث أن منطقة الثمامة من المناطق الحيوية بالدولة، والتي تشهد نموا عمرانيا وسكانيا كبيرين، ويزيد من أهمية الأعمال كونها تقع بالقرب من استاد الثمامة، أحد الاستادات الثمانية المستضيفة لمباريات كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022.
وأوضح الخيارين أن الشبكة الجديدة ستعمل على استيعاب تدفقات الأمطار من منطقة الثمامة /منطقة 46/ إلى نفق أبو هامور عبر نفق النجمة ونقلها إلى شبكة التصريف الرئيسية، مما سيساهم في تقليل تجمع مياه الأمطار وتلبية احتياجات السكان وتحسين جودة الحياة والظروف البيئية بالمنطقة.
وعن الأعمال التي تم تنفيذها، أوضح المهندس حسن محسن رئيس قسم مشروعات شبكات الصرف الصحي في “أشغال”، أنه تم تركيب إجمالي 26 كيلومترا من أنابيب شبكات تصريف المياه السطحية والجوفية على عمق يتراوح ما بين 5 و26 مترا تحت سطح الأرض، وتنقسم إلى 9 كيلومترات من خطوط شبكة صرف مياه الأمطار، والتي تم تنفيذها بتقنية الحفر النفقي العميق بهدف تخفيف آثار أعمال الحفر على حركة المرور وسكان المنطقة، بالإضافة إلى حوالي 17 كيلومترا من خطوط شبكة صرف مياه الأمطار الضحلة، منها 5 كيلومترات من الخطوط المثقبة، والتي ستعمل أيضا كخطوط للتحكم بمنسوب المياه الجوفية، مضيفا أنه يجري حاليا استكمال الأعمال النهائية لمعاينة الشبكة وإعادة الشوارع لوضعها الأصلي.
وأوضح أن الشبكة الجديدة تغطي 50 شارعا، من أبرزها الطريق الدائري الخامس وشارع نجمة وشارع الثمامة وشارع القدس وشارع المدينة وشارع المسجد الحرام، كما تخدم الشبكة حديقة التوعية /كهرماء/ وأسواق الفرجان بالمنطقة.
كما شملت الأعمال أيضا إنشاء 50 /مانهول/ و200 مخرج جانبي لتصريف مياه الأمطار في الطرق، إلى جانب ربط أكثر من 1500 مخرج جانبي لتصريف مياه الأمطار قائمة بالشبكة الجديدة لتعزيز كفاءتها.
