QC Provides Humanitarian Aid to Displaced People in Iften Camp in Somalia

Mogadishu: Qatar Charity (QC) provided humanitarian aid to the displaced people in Iften camp in Bartiri, Jubaland state which is considered one the most draught affected areas in the sisterly Federal Republic of Somalia. The food baskets were distributed during a visit made by HE Abdul Rahman Abdul Shakoor, the Somali Presidents Special Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs and Drought, HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Somalia Hassan bin Hamza Hashem, in addition to a delegation from Qatar Charity, and members of the Somali National Drought Committee, to the city of Bartiri.
Iften camp is one of the 21 camps in the city, where about 28,000 families are displaced from the cities and nearby areas to escape the ordeals of drought.
HE the Special Envoy of the Somali President for Humanitarian Affairs and Drought hailed the role of the State of Qatar in delivering aid to those affected by the drought in the country, lauding Qatar Charity’s dedicated efforts to helping the displaced, he also expressed his thanks to the Ambassador for his efforts in Somalia.
HE Hassan bin Hamza Hashem reiterated the State of Qatar’s standing by the brothers in Somalia to confront the drought crisis that has affected most of the regions, pointing out that the State of Qatar provided humanitarian aid that benefited the affected people in those regions.
He stressed the State of Qatar’s commitment to developing projects, including the Mogadishu-Afgoye road project and the Mogadishu-Jawhar road, which benefited the Somali people, which had a significant impact on the local economy.
For his part, director of the Media Department at QC Saud Al-Maadeed said that the association has embarked on its operation in Somalia since 2008, where numerous development projects have been implemented in different sectors throughout the previous period, pointing out that one of these large projects is the social welfare project, which Qatar Charity sponsors more than 22,000 orphans.
He added that their visit to Somalia comes as a result of an urgent action to inspect the situation and have a glimpse of the humanitarian situation and the necessary needs with the aim of collecting aid and donations to save those affected by drought as soon as possible.
He stressed Qatar Charity’s readiness to assist in the relief campaigns, which he considered a prelude and the beginning of more comprehensive and larger assistance in the near future period.

وتم توزيع السلال الغذائية، خلال زيارة قام بها سعادة السيد عبدالرحمن عبدالشكور المبعوث الخاص للرئيس الصومالي للشؤون الإنسانية والجفاف، وسعادة السيد حسن بن حمزة هاشم سفير دولة قطر لدى الصومال، ووفد من قطر الخيرية، وأعضاء من اللجنة الوطنية الصومالية لمواجهة الجفاف، إلى مدينة “بارطيري”.
يذكر أن مخيم “إفتن” يعد واحدا من بين (21) مخيما في المدينة، وتعيش فيه حوالي (28) ألف أسرة نزحت من المدن والمناطق القريبة هربا من الجفاف.
وأشاد سعادة المبعوث الخاص للرئيس الصومالي للشؤون الإنسانية والجفاف، بدور دولة قطر في إيصال المساعدات للمتضررين من الجفاف في البلاد، مثنيا على جهود قطر الخيرية في مساعدة النازحين، كما أعرب عن شكره لسعادة السفير، على الجهود التي يبذلها في الصومال.
من جانبه، جدد سعادة السيد حسن بن حمزة هاشم، التأكيد على وقوف دولة قطر إلى جانب الأشقاء في الصومال لمواجهة أزمة الجفاف الذي تأثرت به معظم الأقاليم، لافتا إلى تقديم دولة قطر مساعدات إنسانية استفاد منها المتضررون في تلك الأقاليم.
وأكد سعادته في هذا الصدد حرص دولة قطر على المساهمة في المشاريع التنموية بما في ذلك مشروع طريق مقديشو- أفجوي وطريق مقديشو- جوهر اللذان استفاد منهما الشعب الصومالي، مما انعكس بشكل كبير على الاقتصاد المحلي.
من جهته، قال السيد سعود المعاضيد مدير إدارة الإعلام بقطر الخيرية، إن الجمعية بدأت عملها في الصومال منذ العام 2008، حيث تم تنفيذ العديد من مشروعات التنمية في القطاعات المختلفة طوال الفترة السابقة، لافتا إلى أن أحد هذه المشاريع الكبيرة هو مشروع الرعاية الاجتماعية، والذي تتكفل فيه قطر الخيرية بأكثر من (22) ألف يتيم.
وأضاف المعاضيد بأن زيارتهم إلى الصومال تأتي نتاج تحرك عاجل لتفقد الأوضاع وفهم الحالة الإنسانية والاحتياجات الضرورية بهدف جمع المساعدات والتبرعات لإنقاذ المتضررين من الجفاف في أسرع وقت.
وأكد استعداد قطر الخيرية للمساعدة في الحملات الإغاثية التي اعتبرها مقدمة وبداية لمساعدات أشمل وأكبر في الفترة القريبة المقبلة.
