Kids turn recycled items into art at QF’s Garangao

DOHA: Qatar Foundation (QF) has celebrated Garangao with an array of fun games and cultural activities.

The event, which took place on Friday, June 1, at Al Shaqab in Education City, brought together hundreds of families from around the country.

During the night of festivities, children were given a chance to turn recycled materials into art, play giant Scrabble boards, relax in a designated reading lounge, enjoy pony rides, play football games, and solve fun riddles and brainteasers.

Maryam Al Mansoori, a Qatari mother who participated in the event with her two sons, said: “I’m grateful to Qatar Foundation for organising these fun activities for our children. Garangao is all about putting a smile on children’s faces, and teaching them the important values of sharing, teamwork, and friendship.”

Additionally, young visitors to the event were given an opportunity to meet Rashed and Nora, popular characters from ‘Siraj’, QF’s animated educational TV series that teaches the Arabic alphabet in a fun and educational way.

Sarah Ali Abdullah, a visitor to the event, said: “My family enjoyed the interactive storytelling session – the storyteller is really talented and knows how to keep the children engaged. My daughter is having a wonderful time taking part in word games and pony rides.”

Abdullah added: “I’ve seen families and children of all nationalities here. I think QF’s Garangao activities offer a great opportunity to share our most beloved traditions with people from other cultures.”

Mohammed Al Muhannadi, another visitor to the event, said: “My children enjoy taking part in QF’s Garangao activities each year. It’s a brilliant idea to have so many educational and fun activities together in one place.

The event caters to children with different interests and opens their minds to creativity while connecting them to the core traditions of the Qatari culture.” Garangao is a popular children’s festival traditionally celebrated across the Arabian Gulf region midway through Ramadan. On this night, children sing the special ‘Garangao song’, wear traditional clothes, and collect nuts and sweets.

احتفلت مؤسسة قطر بالقرنقعوه هذا العام عبر استضافتها لفعاليات عائلية حافلة بالألعاب والأنشطة الشيقة، أمس، بالميدان الداخلي للشقب، في حرم المدينة التعليمية.

وفي هذا الصدد، قالت السيدة مريم المنصوري، وهي أم قطرية شاركت في الفعالية مع ولديها: “أنا في غاية الشكر لمؤسسة قطر على تنظيمها لهذه الاحتفالية المرحة لأطفالنا. وتتمحور فعالية القرنقعوه قبل كل شيء حول رسم البسمة على وجوه الأطفال، وتعليمهم قيم المشاركة والعمل الجماعي والصداقة”.

وقد استمتع الأطفال خلال فعالية أمس بلقاء شخصياتهم المحببة راشد ونورا، بطلا مسلسل “سراج” التلفزيوني الثقافي والترفيهي الموجه للأطفال ممن يتراوح عمرهم ما بين سنتين وثماني سنوات، لمساعدتهم على تعلّم اللغة العربية الفصحى بأسلوب ترفيهي وممتع.

ومن جهتها، قالت الزائرة سارة علي عبدالله: “لقد استمتعت عائلتي بفعالية سرد القصص التفاعلية، حيث كان الراوي موهوباً بالفعل واستحوذ على انتباه الأطفال. كما سرّت ابنتي بفعالية ركوب الأمهر وألعاب تركيب الكلمات. لقد شاركت العائلات من كل الجنسيات، وتُعد القرنقعوه مناسبة رائعة لمشاركة تراثنا مع الأشخاص القادمين من ثقافات أخرى”.

وشاركت العديد من مراكز مؤسسة قطر في تقديم الفعاليات، حيث وفرت أنشطة متنوعة على غرار مسابقة الركض بالأكياس، وفعالية “اصنع فانوسك”، وسرد القصص، والأحجية ثلاثية الأبعاد، وركوب الأمهر، وكرة القدم، وغيرها الكثير.

أما السيد محمد علي المهندي، الذي شارك في الفعالية مع أطفاله فقال: “لقد استمتع أطفالي بالمشاركة في احتفالات مؤسسة قطر بالقرنقعوه على مدار السنوات. ولا شك بأن تنظيم باقة من الأنشطة المتنوعة في مكان واحد هو فكرة رائعة، لأنه يلبي أذواق الأطفال المختلفة، ويحفزهم على الإبداع، كما أنه يربطهم بالتقاليد القطرية الأصيلة”.

والقرنقعوه هو مهرجان تراثي للأطفال، يُحتفى به في منطقة الخليج العربي في الليلة الرابعة عشرة من شهر رمضان المبارك. ويغني الأطفال خلال هذه الليلة أغنية خاصة بالمناسبة، ويرتدون الملابس التقليدية، ويجمعون المكسرات والحلوى.
