Minister of Public Health, WHO’s Director-General Inaugurate WHO Office in Qatar

Doha: HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari and HE WHO’s Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus yesterday inaugurated a new WHO country office in Qatar to strengthen cooperation between Qatar and WHO, support the achievement of Qatar’s national health goals and contribute to regional and global public health work.
The establishment of the new office will strengthen WHO’s work with health authorities in Qatar and other partners such as United Nations agencies, humanitarian and development partners, nongovernmental organizations, WHO collaborating centers and the private sector.
HE Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari stressed that the inauguration of the WHO Country Office in Qatar, will contribute to strengthening and supporting the strong partnership between Qatar and WHO, which aims primarily to improve the health and well-being of the population.
Her Excellency pointed to many joint projects between Qatar and the organization, most notably the distinguished cooperation in supporting aspects of health and safety during the FIFA Qatar World Cup 2022, to represent the tournament as a beacon for promoting physical and psychological health, and a model to ensure the establishment of major health and safe sporting events in the future.
HE the Minister of Public Health also praised WHO’s outstanding role in responding to the world’s unprecedented health challenges, and the strategic and technical support that the WHO provides to countries all over the world as well as promoting international cooperation “for a healthier world.”
WHO’s Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “As a major humanitarian donor, Qatar has generously supported WHO’s work, particularly in emergency response. At the same time, Qatar has achieved many health gains at home. Therefore, I am delighted to take part in the opening of the new WHO country office in Qatar, which will help further strengthen our close collaboration. The WHO country office will provide strategic, policy and technical support to assist Qatar in advancing health and well-being at national, regional and international levels.”
WHO’s Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Dr Ahmed Al Mandhari said, “We are keen to strengthen national and regional cooperation with the State of Qatar as a top priority for our work. With the inauguration of the WHO office today, we are taking an important step in strengthening the strategic partnership with the State of Qatar, which has been and continues to be a key partner in health in the regional and global arenas.”
He added: “Qatar has always played a strategic role as a Member State of WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region and I am confident that our partnership will move forward to broader horizons that will enable us to jointly promote health action in our Region and beyond through initiatives, programs and policies that build on Qatar’s development and health achievements, in line with our regional “Vision 2023: Health for by all: a call for solidarity and action”, and enable us to achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.”
It is noteworthy that Qatar contributes significantly to supporting WHO initiatives, such as supporting “WHO’s Thirteenth General Program of Work, 20192023”, as well as supporting the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator, and many WHO initiatives and programs.

الدوحة: افتتحت سعادة الدكتورة حنان محمد الكواري وزير الصحة العامة وسعادة الدكتور تيدروس أدحانوم غيبريسوس المدير العام لمنظمة الصحة العالمية يوم أمس، المكتب القُطري لمنظمة الصحة العالمية في دولة قطر.
ويهدف افتتاح المكتب إلى تطوير التعاون بين دولة قطر ومنظمة الصحة العالمية، ودعم تحقيق الأهداف الصحية الوطنية في الدولة، والإسهام في العمل الإقليمي والعالمي للصحة العامة.
وسيعزز المكتب عمل منظمة الصحة العالمية مع الجهات الصحية في دولة قطر، والعديد من الشركاء على الصعيد الوطني كوكالات الأمم المتحدة، والشركاء المعنيين بالأعمال الإنسانية والتطوير، والمنظمات غير الحكومية، والمراكز المتعاونة مع منظمة الصحة العالمية، والقطاع الخاص.
وأكدت سعادة الدكتورة حنان محمد الكواري أن افتتاح المكتب القُطري لمنظمة الصحة العالمية في دولة قطر، سيساهم في تعزيز ودعم الشراكة القوية بين قطر والمنظمة، والتي تهدف بالدرجة الأولى إلى تحسين صحة السكان وعافيتهم.
وأشارت سعادتها إلى العديد من المشاريع المشتركة بين دولة قطر والمنظمة ومن أبرزها التعاون المميز في دعم جوانب الصحة والسلامة خلال بطولة كأس العالم FIFA قطر 2022، لتمثل البطولة منارة لتعزيز الصحة البدنية والنفسية، ونموذجا لضمان إقامة أحداث رياضية كبرى صحية وآمنة في المستقبل.
وأشادت سعادتها بالدور البارز للمنظمة في الاستجابة للتحديات الصحية غير المسبوقة التي يواجهها العالم، والدعم الاستراتيجي والتقني الذي تقدمه منظمة الصحة العالمية للبلدان وتعزيز التعاون الدولي “من أجل عالم أكثر صحة”.
من جهته، قال الدكتور تيدروس أدحانوم غيبريسوس “إن دولة قطر، بوصفها مانحا إنسانيا رئيسيا، دعمت بسخاء عمل منظمة الصحة العالمية، لا سيما في مجال الاستجابة لحالات الطوارئ، وفي الوقت نفسه، حققت قطر العديد من المكاسب الصحية في الداخل”.
وأضاف قائلا: “من دواعي سروري أن أشارك في افتتاح المكتب القُطري الجديد لمنظمة الصحة العالمية في قطر، والذي سيساعد على تعزيز تعاوننا الوثيق، وسيقدم المكتب لمنظمة الصحة العالمية الدعم الاستراتيجي والسياسي والتقني لمساعدة قطر في النهوض بالصحة والعافية على المستويات الوطنية والإقليمية والدولية”.
ومن جانبه، أكد الدكتور أحمد المنظري مدير منظمة الصحة العالمية لإقليم شرق المتوسط أهمية افتتاح المكتب القُطري، وقال: “نحن حريصون على تعزيز أواصر التعاون الوطني والإقليمي مع دولة قطر والذي يمثل أولوية كبرى لعملنا، وبافتتاح مكتب منظمة الصحة العالمية اليوم نقطع خطوة مهمة على طريق تعزيز الشراكة الاستراتيجية مع دولة قطر التي كانت، ولا تزال، شريكا رئيسيا على الساحتين العالمية والإقليمية للصحة”.
وأضاف القول “لطالما اضطلعت قطر بدور استراتيجي كدولة عضو في إقليم شرق المتوسط وأثق أن شراكتنا ستمضي قدمًا إلى آفاق أرحب تمكننا معاً من تعزيز العمل الصحي في إقليمنا وخارجه من خلال مبادرات وبرامج وسياسات تبني على ما شهدته قطر من تطور وما حققته من إنجازات صحية، وتنسجم مع رؤيتنا الإقليمية 2023 “الصحة للجميع وبالجميع: دعوة للتضامن والعمل، وتمكننا من مواصلة تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة لعام 2030”.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن دولة قطر تساهم بشكل بارز في دعم مبادرات منظمة الصحة العالمية، كدعم برنامج العمل العام الثالث عشر لمنظمة الصحة العالمية /2019 – 2023/، إضافة إلى دعم الاستجابة لجائحة /كوفيد-19/ ومبادرة تسريع إتاحة أدوات مكافحة /كوفيد-19/، والعديد من مبادرات وبرامج المنظمة.
