QC Provides Treatment for 500 Blindness Patients in Burkina Faso

Doha: Some 500 patients benefited from the anti-blindness campaign implemented by Qatar Charity through its office in Burkina Faso, during which surgeries were performed on them to restore their sight.

Director of Qatar Charity’s Office in Burkina Faso Gallo Drissa, said that all operations carried out for patients were successful, noting that the latest campaign was an extension of Qatar Charity’s efforts in the health field, which seek to instill hope in the souls of those who have lost sight.

This campaign, which was implemented in cooperation with the National Center for the Control of Blindness of the Ministry of Health in Burkina Faso, is the fourth of its kind, after previous campaigns succeeded in restoring sight to more than 1,500 people who were blinded because of what is known as cataract, at a total cost of more than one million Qatari riyals.

For his part, Director of Public Health at the Ministry of Health in Burkina Faso Dr. Emmanuel Seni praised Qatar Charity’s efforts for its humanitarian value and the benefit it brings to communities, the poor and the needy.

“We are in a society most of which suffers from low income, and many cannot afford the high costs of blindness treatment,” he said.

In turn, Dr. Patti Sankara, Director of the National Center for Combating Blindness, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the philanthropists in Qatar for their support and generous donations, as well as Qatar Charity for its humanitarian efforts.

Qatar Charity has implemented many projects in Burkina Faso over the past years, including health and educational projects and others in the field of social housing, as well as social welfare efforts and the ownership of income-generating projects for the benefit of the poor, as well as running medical convoys to treat the poor, diagnose disease conditions, and distribute medicines for free.

الدوحة: استفاد 500 مريض من حملة مكافحة العمى التي نفذتها قطر الخيرية عبر مكتبها في بوركينا فاسو، والتي تم خلالها إجراء عمليات جراحية لهم لاستعادة بصرهم.

وأوضح السيد جالو دريسا مدير مكتب قطر الخيرية في بوركينا فاسو أن جميع العمليات التي أجريت للمرضى تكللت بالنجاح، مشيرا إلى أن الحملة الأخيرة جاءت امتدادا لجهود قطر الخيرية في المجال الصحي الساعية إلى زرع الأمل في نفوس من فقدوا البصر.

وتعد هذه الحملة، التي تم تنفيذها بالتعاون مع المركز الوطني لمكافحة العمى التابع لوزارة الصحة في بوركينا فاسو، الرابعة من نوعها، بعد أن نجحت الحملات السابقة في إعادة البصر لأكثر من 1500 شخص ممن أصيبوا بالعمى بسبب ما يعرف بالمياه البيضاء، وذلك بتكلفة إجمالية تجاوزت المليون ريال قطري.

من جانبه، أثنى الدكتور إيمانويل سيني مدير الصحة العامة بوزارة الصحة في بوركينا فاسو على جهود قطر الخيرية لما تمثله من قيمة إنسانية وما تحققه من نفع للمجتمعات والفقراء والمحتاجين.

وقال “نحن في مجتمع يعاني معظمه من قلة الدخل، وكثيرون لا يستطيعون تحمل التكاليف الباهظة لعلاج مرض فقدان البصر”.

بدوره، أعرب الدكتور باتي سانكارا مدير المركز الوطني لمكافحة العمى عن شكر ه وتقديره لأهل الخير في قطر لدعمهم وتبرعاتهم السخية، كما شكر قطر الخيرية على جهودها الإنسانية.

يذكر أن قطر الخيرية نفذت العديد من المشاريع في بوركينا فاسو خلال السنوات الماضية، شملت مشاريع صحية وتعليمية وأخرى في مجال السكن الاجتماعي، فضلا عن جهود الرعاية الاجتماعية وتمليك المشاريع المدرة للدخل لصالح الفئات الفقيرة، وكذلك تسيير قوافل طبية لعلاج الفقراء وتشخيص الحالات المرضية وتوزيع الأدوية مجانا.
