Qatar Participates in UNGA High-Level Meeting to Support Equitable Access to Vaccines

Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly to support equitable access to vaccines.
The State of Qatar was represented in the meeting by HE Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari through remote communication technology.
In a speech she gave HE Dr. Al Kuwari stressed the importance of the meeting which aims to support equitable access to effective and affordable vaccines to contain the current crisis and recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
She said that despite the challenges facing achieving universal coverage for vaccines, there is faith in the possibility of addressing these challenges if countries mobilize the necessary political will in a spirit of cooperation and multilateral international action.
HE the Minister of Public Health referred to the success of the vaccination program in the State of Qatar, where more than 87% of the population received at least two doses of the vaccine, and work is continuing to give more booster doses.
HE Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari said, “While we in the State of Qatar are proud of these achievements at the national level, the State of Qatar is also keen to contribute to the replication of this achievement on a larger global scale.” She explained that the State of Qatar, since the beginning of the (Covid-19) crisis, has provided support to countries that suffer from a lack of resources at the bilateral level and through international organizations, to contribute to the provision of vaccines and medical supplies.
This included the State of Qatar’s recent partnership with the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), through which $10 million was provided to support the COVAX facility as a contribution to the purchase of 1.3 billion doses of safe and effective vaccines, with the aim of ensuring fair and equitable access to vaccines in 92 low-income countries.
She also referred to the $10 million agreement signed between the State of Qatar and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2021 to support the Thirteenth General Program of Work of the World Health Organization (GPW 13), as well as the initiative to accelerate the availability of tools to combat COVID-19.
Concluding her speech, HE the Minister of Public Health affirmed the commitment of the State of Qatar to continue to cooperate and provide support to all international efforts aimed at ensuring universal vaccination so that everyone enjoys equality.
The meeting, which was held under the title “Stimulating Momentum for Mass Immunization”, discussed two main topics represented in the challenges that exist in vaccine production and distribution, improving quality, improving absorptive capacity and delivery rates in low-coverage countries and ensuring predictability of supplies, in addition to innovations and solutions needed to overcome Current challenges and work towards mass vaccination.
The main objective of the meeting was to provide an opportunity for member states and other relevant stakeholders to review challenges in vaccine production and distribution and to renew the political commitment to achieve universal vaccination in the shortest possible period of time.

وأكدت سعادتها في كلمتها على أهمية الاجتماع من أجل دعم الوصول العادل إلى لقاحات فعالة بأسعار معقولة لاحتواء الأزمة الحالية والتعافي من جائحة كوفيد-19.
وقالت إنه على الرغم من التحديات التي تواجه تحقيق التغطية الشاملة للقاحات، إلا أن هناك ايمان بإمكانية معالجة هذه التحديات إذا حشدت الدول إرادتها السياسية اللازمة بروح من التعاون والعمل الدولي متعدد الأطراف.
وأشارت سعادة وزير الصحة العامة إلى نجاح برنامج التطعيم في دولة قطر، حيث تلقى أكثر من 87 % من السكان جرعتين على الأقل من اللقاح، كما يتواصل العمل لإعطاء المزيد من الجرعات المعززة.
وقالت سعادتها “مع اعتزازنا في دولة قطر بهذه الإنجازات على المستوى الوطني، إلا أن دولة قطر حريصة أيضًا على المساهمة في تكرار هذا الإنجاز على نطاق عالمي أوسع”.
وأوضحت أن دولة قطر، منذ بداية أزمة (كوفيد-19) قدمت الدعم للدول التي تعاني من نقص الموارد على المستوى الثنائي ومن خلال المنظمات الدولية، للمساهمة في توفير اللقاحات والمستلزمات الطبية.
ويشمل ذلك الشراكة الأخيرة لدولة قطر مع التحالف العالمي للقاحات والتحصين (GAVI) ، والتي تم من خلالها تقديم 10 ملايين دولار لدعم لمرفق كوفاكس كمساهمة في شراء 1.3 مليار جرعة من اللقاحات الآمنة والفعالة، بهدف ضمان الوصول العادل والمنصف إلى اللقاحات في 92 دولة منخفضة الدخل.
كما أشارت سعادتها إلى الاتفاقية الموقعة بقيمة 10 ملايين دولار أمريكي بين دولة قطر ومنظمة الصحة العالمية في عام 2021 لدعم برنامج العمل العام الثالث عشر لمنظمة الصحة العالمية (GPW 13) وكذلك مبادرة تسريع إتاحة أدوات مكافحة كوفيد-19.
وفي ختام كلمتها أكدت سعادة وزير الصحة العامة التزام دولة قطر بمواصلة التعاون وتقديم الدعم لجميع الجهود الدولية الهادفة إلى ضمان التطعيم الشامل حتى يتمتع الجميع بالمساواة.
يذكر أن الاجتماع والذي عقد تحت عنوان “تحفيز الزخم من أجل التلقيح الشامل” ناقش موضوعين رئيسيين تمثلا في التحديات القائمة في إنتاج اللقاح وتوزيعه وتحسين الجودة وتحسين القدرة الاستيعابية ومعدلات التسليم في البلدان منخفضة التغطية وضمان القدرة على التنبؤ بالإمدادات، إضافة إلى الابتكارات والحلول اللازمة للتغلب على التحديات الحالية والعمل من أجل التلقيح الشامل.
وتمثل الهدف الرئيسي للاجتماع في توفير الفرصة للدول الأعضاء وأصحاب المصلحة الآخرين وذوي الصلة لمراجعة التحديات القائمة في إنتاج اللقاح وتوزيعه وتجديد الالتزام السياسي لتحقيق التلقيح الشامل في أقصر فترة زمنية ممكنة.
