QRCS Provide Emergency, Medical Aid for Afghan People

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) have co-launched a response to the emergency and health needs of the Afghan people, under a bilateral cooperation agreement to alleviate the suffering of the communities most affected by the recent humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, by improving the health and living conditions of 4,500 families, or 31,500 persons, displaced by disasters and armed conflict in Kunar, Takhar, and Zabul Provinces.
The agreement was signed by HE Secretary-General of QRCS Ali bin Hassan Al Hammadi, and HE Secretary-General of KRCS Maha Barjas Al Barjas.
Commenting on the agreement, Al Hammadi said: “We join hands with our brothers at KRCS and we stand together for the people of Afghanistan, who have for years suffered displacement and lack of the slightest requirements of a decent life”.
He also praised the quick response by the people of Qatar and Kuwait to help the Afghan people in their current plight. He described the cooperation between QRCS and KRCS as “a representation of the two governments’ and peoples support of humanitarian causes and advocacy of the rights of vulnerable people everywhere” and an “extension of their common mission under the umbrella of the seven Fundamental Principles”.
For her part, Al Barjas talked about the sympathy of the people of Kuwait with the Afghan people, as QRCS was proceeding with its humanitarian role and duty of helping the Afghans in distress and contributing to any relief effort by international partners and humanitarian organizations.
She added, “The unlimited humanitarian support given by Kuwait to the Afghan people, through KRCS, embodies the concept of humanitarianism in relieving those in need”.
The project involves providing diverse relief aid at a total cost of $548,000, equally funded by the two parties, while QRCS is undertaking all execution jointly with the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS).
Until the date of writing this report, seven relief shipments have been deployed by air from Qatar to Afghanistan, totaling 105 tons of various, foodstuffs and 18 tons of hygiene items, in addition to distributing Hygiene kits for a number of needy families in the targeted provinces.

جاء إطلاق هذا المشروع بناء على اتفاقية تعاون وقعها الجانبان، بهدف التخفيف من المعاناة الإنسانية للفئات الأشد تضررا من الأزمة الأخيرة في أفغانستان، وتحسين الأوضاع الصحية والمعيشية لـ 4,500 أسرة تضم 31,500 شخصا من النازحين، جراء الكوارث والنزاعات المسلحة في 3 ولايات أفغانية هي كونار وتخار وزابل.
وقع اتفاقية المشروع من جانب الهلال الأحمر القطري أمينه العام سعادة السيد علي بن حسن الحمادي، ومن جانب الهلال الأحمر الكويتي أمينه العام أيضا سعادة السيدة مها برجس البرجس.
وقال الحمادي بهذه المناسبة: “إن الاتفاقية تؤكد وقوف الهلالين القطري والكويتي معا من أجل الشعب الأفغاني، الذي عانى سنوات طويلة من النزوح، واللجوء، والحرمان، ومن أبسط متطلبات الحياة الكريمة”.
وأشاد بفزعة أهل قطر والكويت إلى نجدة الشعب الأفغاني في محنته الراهنة، واصفا هذا التعاون بين الجانبين بأنه “انعكاس لموقف الدولتين الرسمي والشعبي المناصر للقضايا الإنسانية والمدافع عن حقوق الضعفاء في كل مكان، وامتداد لرسالتهما المشتركة تحت مظلة المبادئ الأساسية للعمل الإنساني”.
من جانبها، أثنت السيدة البرجس على اتفاقية التعاون بين الطرفين لإغاثة الشعب الأفغاني، مشيرة إلى أن أفغانستان باتت على مشارف كارثة إنسانية قد تستمر لسنوات وتهدد نصف سكان البلد، إذ أضحت الأسر تعاني الأمرين في سبيل تأمين احتياجاتها من الغذاء والدواء وغيرهما من أزمات أخرى.
وأعربت عن تعاطف الكويت وشعبها مع الشعب الأفغاني، مشددة على استمرار الهلال الأحمر الكويتي في القيام بدوره وواجبه الإنساني في إغاثة المنكوبين بأفغانستان، والمشاركة في كل جهد إغاثي مع الشركاء الدوليين والمنظمات الإنسانية لتخفيف معاناتهم.
يتضمن المشروع تقديم مساعدات إغاثية متنوعة بقيمة إجمالية قدرها 548 ألف دولار أمريكي ممولة مناصفة من الطرفين، فيما يتولى الهلال الأحمر القطري كافة الجوانب التنفيذية للمشروع بالتعاون مع الهلال الأحمر الأفغاني.
وتم حتى الآن إرسال 7 شحنات إغاثية جوا من دولة قطر إلى أفغانستان، بإجمالي 105 أطنان من المواد الغذائية المتنوعة، فضلا عن 18 طنا من مواد النظافة الشخصية، علاوة على توزيع مواد غذائية وحزمة من أدوات النظافة الشخصية على عدد من الأسر المحتاجة في الولايات المستهدفة.
