QC, UNHCR Sign Agreement to Support Internally Displaced People in Yemen

Doha: Qatar Charity (QC) and UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, signed an agreement worth more than QR1.8 million to support internally displaced people in Marib, Yemen.

Due to this contribution, UNHCR will provide urgent assistance to more than 2,000 internally displaced families (approximately 12,252 individuals), through the distribution of relief items which includes blankets, kitchen sets, and solar lamps.

Nawaf Abdullah Al Hammadi, CEO’s assistant for the International Operations and Programs sector at Qatar Charity, emphasized QC’s commitment towards providing continuous support to UNHCR’s operations. “We are proud of our long-lasting partnership with UNHCR, and we strive to support its efforts in responding to the existing humanitarian needs of displaced Yemenis,” Al Hammadi said.

UNHCR’s Representative in Qatar Ayat El Dewary lauded the generous contribution and the pioneering humanitarian role of Qatar Charity, which is reflected in its continuous support to UNHCR and its humanitarian response in Yemen. “We deeply thank and appreciate Qatar Charity for the vital contribution, which will have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of internally displaced Yemenis, who rely on humanitarian assistance to alleviate their suffering and improve their living conditions,” El Dewary stated.

After more than six years of the conflict’s outbreak in Yemen, it remains the largest humanitarian crisis in the world with over 20 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, and five million people on the brink of famine.

According to the latest statistics, there are more than four million internally displaced Yemenis, and nearly 40,000 people who have been forced to flee in Marib since September. This represents almost 70 percent of all displacements in this south-eastern governorate since the beginning of the year. Marib now hosts half of the estimated 120,000 newly displaced countrywide in 2021.

This contribution will support UNHCR’s efforts in the humanitarian response in Yemen. In light of this protracted humanitarian crisis and new displacements in Yemen, needs such as, shelter, essential household items, water and sanitation, education, and protection services, continue to be exacerbated, in addition to other daily challenges of displacement.

الدوحة: وقعت قطر الخيرية والمفوضية السامية للأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين اتفاقية بقيمة تقدر بأكثر من 1.8 مليون ريال قطري كمساهمة لمساعدة النازحين داخلياً في محافظة مأرب، باليمن.

وسوف تقدم المفوضية بموجب هذه المساهمة المساعدة العاجلة لأكثر من 2,000 أسرة نازحة داخلياً (أي ما يقارب 12,252 شخصا) من خلال توزيع مساعدات إغاثية تتضمن البطانيات وأدوات الطبخ والمصابيح الشمسية.

وأكد السيد نواف عبدالله الحمادي، مساعد الرئيس التنفيذي لقطاع العمليات والبرامج الدولية بقطر الخيرية، على التزام قطر الخيرية بتقديم الدعم المستمر لمفوضية اللاجئين، وقال:” نفخر بشراكتنا مع المفوضية ونسعى لمساعدتها في الاستجابة للاحتياجات الإنسانية القائمة للنازحين في اليمن وخاصة ما يتعلق بالأزمة الحالية في مأرب.”

من جهتها أشادت السيدة آيات الدويري ممثلة مفوضية اللاجئين لدى دولة قطر، بالمنحة السخية والدور الإنساني الريادي الذي تضطلع به قطر الخيرية والمتمثل في دعمها المستمر للمفوضية واستجابتها الإنسانية في اليمن، وقالت: “نتوجه بجزيل الشكر والامتنان لقطر الخيرية على هذه المساهمة الضرورية والتي سيكون لها أثر إيجابي على حياة الآلاف من الأسر النازحة داخلياً في اليمن، والذين يعولون على المساعدات الإنسانية للتخفيف من معاناتهم ولتحسين ظروفهم المعيشية بغية ضمان الأمن والأمان والحد الأدنى من العيش الكريم.”

يذكر أن الأزمة الإنسانية في اليمن ما زالت هي الأكبر على مستوى العالم، في ظل وجود أكثر من 20 مليون شخص يعولون على المساعدات الإنسانية، و5 ملايين شخص على حافة المجاعة.

وبحسب آخر الاحصائيات، هناك أكثر من 4 ملايين نازح داخلياً في اليمن، وقد اضطر حوالي 40,000 شخص للفرار داخل مأرب منذ شهر سبتمبر من العام الجاري، ويمثل ذلك ما يقرب من 70% من كافة حالات النزوح في هذه المحافظة الواقعة جنوب شرق البلاد منذ بداية العام. وتستضيف مأرب في الوقت الحالي نصف عدد النازحين في عام 2021، والمقدر عددهم بنحو 120 ألف شخص والمنتشرين في جميع أنحاء البلاد.

وستعزز هذه المساهمة جهود الاستجابة الإنسانية في اليمن في ظل امتداد الأزمات الإنسانية وحالات النزوح الجديدة التي تتضاعف معها الحاجة إلى المأوى، والمواد المنزلية الأساسية، والمياه ومرافق النظافة، والتعليم، وخدمات الحماية وغيرها من تحديات النزوح اليومية.
