Minister of Labor Confirms Effective Implementation of Reforms

Doha: HE Minister of Labor Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, affirmed today the State of Qatar’s continued cooperation with the International Labor Organization, and to ensure the effective implementation of the reforms recently adopted by the State in the field of labor, considering that Qatar’s election last October to the membership of United Nations Human Rights Council demonstrates the state’s commitment to protecting human rights.

This came during his participation in the meeting of trade union organizations and federations in the world via video conference technology, which is held periodically, and is an opportunity to discuss the most prominent and most important issues related to workers’ rights – in the presence of the leaders of the international community concerned with the field of labor – in addition to exchanging knowledge about the latest developments in the field of labor reform in the State of Qatar.

In his speech during the main session of the meeting, His Excellency noted that despite the challenges facing the world as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the State of Qatar was keen that expatriate workers receive health care and equal opportunities for all to obtain the vaccine.

Representatives of the International Labor Organization office in Doha participated in the sessions of the meeting, in addition to a number of international organizations concerned with labor and workers rights, most notably the World Federation of Trade Unions, the International Transport Workers’ Federation, the International Domestic Workers Federation, the International Federation of Building and Wood Workers, and other organizations concerned with this matter.

الدوحة: أكد سعادة الدكتور علي بن صميخ المري وزير العمل، اليوم، مواصلة دولة قطر التعاون مع منظمة العمل الدولية، وضمان التنفيذ الفعال للإصلاحات التي تبنتها الدولة مؤخرا في مجال العمل، معتبرا أن انتخاب قطر في أكتوبر الماضي لعضوية مجلس حقوق الإنسان التابع للأمم المتحدة يدل على التزام الدولة بحماية حقوق الإنسان.

جاء ذلك خلال مشاركة سعادته في اجتماع منظمات واتحادات النقابات العمالية في العالم “عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي”، وهو الاجتماع الذي يعقد بشكل دوري، ويعد فرصة لمناقشة أبرز وأهم القضايا المتعلقة بحقوق العمال – بحضور قادة المجتمع الدولي المعنيين بمجال العمال – إلى جانب تبادل المعرفة حول آخر المستجدات في مجال إصلاح العمل في دولة قطر.

ونوه سعادة الدكتور المري، في كلمة له خلال الجلسة الرئيسية للاجتماع، إلى أنه على الرغم من التحديات التي تواجه العالم جراء جائحة /كوفيد-19/، إلا أن دولة قطر حرصت على أن تحظى العمالة الوافدة إليها برعاية صحية، وفرص متساوية للجميع للحصول على اللقاح.

شارك في جلسات الاجتماع ممثلون عن مكتب منظمة العمل الدولية في الدوحة، بالإضافة إلى عدد من المنظمات الدولية المعنية بالعمل وحقوق العمال، من أبرزها اتحاد النقابات العالمي، والاتحاد الدولي للنقل، والاتحاد الدولي للعمال المنزليين، والاتحاد الدولي لعمال البناء والأخشاب، وغيرها من المنظمات المعنية بهذا الشأن.
