Shura Council Participates in Parliamentary Conference on Women Empowerment

Doha: The Shura Council participated yesterday in a parliamentary conference on the latest development on women empowerment in the Arab region. The conference was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the international network of gender equality advocates, the Permanent Mission of the Arab Republic of Egypt to the United Nations, and other international organizations in Geneva. It took place via video conference.
The Shura Council was represented by Deputy Speaker of the Council Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti.
Discussions during the conference focused on the importance of strengthening and empowering the role of women in all areas of life and the efforts made in this framework, the most important challenges facing women in parliamentary work, and working to find the necessary solutions and effective measures in order to increase the percentage of women’s representation in Arab parliaments.
It is worth noting that the percentage of women’s representation in parliaments in the Middle East and North Africa is the lowest among all regions, as it did not exceed 17.8 percent by 2021.

الدوحة: شارك مجلس الشورى، يوم أمس، في مؤتمر برلماني بعنوان “تمكين المرأة في المنطقة العربية: أحدث المستجدات والمضي قدما”، والذي عقده الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي بالتعاون مع البرلمان العربي، والشبكة الدولية لأنصار ونصيرات المساواة بين الجنسين، والبعثة الدائمة لجمهورية مصر العربية لدى الأمم المتحدة، والمنظمات الدولية الأخرى في جنيف، وذلك عبر تقنية الاتصال المرئي.
مثل مجلس الشورى خلال الاجتماع سعادة الدكتورة حمدة بنت حسن السليطي نائبة رئيس المجلس.
وتركزت المناقشات خلال المؤتمر على أهمية تعزيز وتمكين دور المرأة في جميع مجالات الحياة والجهود المبذولة في هذا الإطار، وأهم التحديات التي تواجه المرأة في العمل البرلماني، والعمل على إيجاد الحلول اللازمة والإجراءات الفعالة من أجل زيادة نسبة تمثيل المرأة في البرلمانات العربية.
جدير بالذكر أن نسبة تمثيل المرأة في برلمانات الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا تعتبر أدنى نسبة من بين جميع المناطق، حيث لم تتعد 17.8 بالمئة بحلول عام 2021.
