Qatar Achieves Record Visitor Arrivals in May

Doha: Qatar’s festivities in May have proven a big boon to the countrys visitor arrival figures. The past months unique events and offerings under ‘Eid in Qatar’ have driven a significant influx of visitors. May international arrivals exceeded 166,000, marking it as the month with the highest number of visitors in 2022. Furthermore, the figures represent more than a quarter of all visitors welcomed over the first five months of this year In a statement released today, Qatar Tourism said that the latest data on visitor arrivals point to a steady recovery of Qatar’s tourism sector, with the year-to-date total (580,000) fast approaching the overall arrivals figure of 2021 (611,000), demonstrating a return to pre-pandemic levels of tourism as public health measures for travel ease.

In keeping with the strategic focus of festivities held in May as part of ‘Eid in Qatar,’ more than half (54%) of all arrivals in May originated from the GCC, with visitors from Saudi Arabia leading international arrivals during the month. Capitalizing on Qatar’s close proximity and ease of access, the proportion of total arrivals by land exceeded that of air for the very first time, with visitors opting to drive through the open and operative Abu Samra border, the statement added.

Commenting on the latest tourism figures, Chief Operating Officer of Qatar Tourism, Berthold Trenkel said that the data demonstrates that the recovery strategy is working. While air travel remains a strong pillar of the tourism strategy attracting visitors from all corners of the globe. “We are pleased to see an influx of visitors leveraging Qatar’s multiple points of access and visiting Qatar via its land and sea borders,” Trenkel said.

He added that 2022 has been a pivotal year for the tourism sector and we’re excited to build on this growth as we enter the summer season, we are confident that the tourism sector will perform well during this time, as visitors enjoy the range of activities that can be found around the country, from musical performances to retail offers and one-of-a-kind museum exhibitions, and which are in keeping with the country’s values and traditions.

الدوحة: سجل عدد زوار قطر ارتفاعاً قياسياً في شهر مايو الماضي، ليبلغ 166 ألف زائر، وهو أعلى مستوى يتم تسجيله على أساس شهري في العام الجاري، كما يمثل أكثر من ربع إجمالي عدد الزوار الذين استقبلتهم قطر خلال الخمسة أشهر الأولى من العام الجاري.

وعزت “قطر للسياحة” في بيان اليوم، زيادة معدلات تدفق الزوار إلى الفعاليات والعروض السياحية الفريدة التي أقيمت الشهر الماضي خلال مهرجان عيد الفطر المبارك.

وأشارت إلى أن تزايد أعداد الزوار القادمين إلى قطر يعكس تعافياً ثابتاً للحركة السياحية، حيث يقترب إجمالي عدد الزوار الذي بلغ 580 ألف زائر منذ بداية هذا العام، من إجمالي عدد الزوار في العام الماضي 2021 الذي بلغ 611 ألف زائر، مما يدل على استعادة الحركة السياحية لمستويات ما قبل الجائحة في ظل التحديثات الجديدة على سياسة السفر والعودة إلى دولة قطر والخاصة بفيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/، التي تضمنت تخفيفاً القيود والإجراءات الاحترازية.

ونوه البيان، إلى نجاح “قطر للسياحة” من خلال الفعاليات التي استضافتها في شهر مايو ضمن مهرجان العيد، في تحقيق هدفها الرامي إلى استقطاب أكبر عدد ممكن من الزوار الراغبين في الاستماع بأجواء العيد، مشيرة إلى أن أعداد الزوار القادمين من دول مجلس التعاون الخليجي شكلت ما نسبته 54% من اجمالي عدد زوار قطر الدوليين خلال هذا الشهر، أي أكثر من النصف، وقد قدم معظمهم من المملكة العربية السعودية لجهة قرب المسافة بين البلدين وسهولة الوصول إليها، كما تجاوز إجمالي عدد الزوار القادمين إلى قطر عن طريق البر عدد القادمين عبر الجو للمرة الأولى، إذ فضلَّت العائلات القدوم إلى قطر عبر منفذ حدود “أبو سمرة” البري.

وقال السيد بيرثهولد ترينكل، الرئيس التنفيذي للعمليات في قطر للسياحة: تُظهر البيانات أن خطة التعافي التي وضعناها تؤتي ثمارها بنجاح، مشيراً إلى إن السفر جوا يمثل ركيزة اساسية ضمن استراتيجية قطر السياحية الرامية إلى استقطاب الزوار من جميع أنحاء العالم، مضيفاً .. نحن سعداء جداً أن نرى زوار قطر يصلون أيضاً عبر منافذها البرية والبحرية.” وتابع “إن عام 2022 عاماً محورياً في مسيرة نمو القطاع السياحي، ونحن متحمسون لتعزيز هذا النمو مع اقتراب موسم الصيف، وإننا على ثقة أن قطاع السياحة سوف يسجل أداءً جيداً خلال هذه الفترة حيث يمكن للزوار الاستمتاع بباقة متنوعة من الأنشطة في جميع أنحاء قطر، بداية من الحفلات الموسيقية وصولاً إلى عروض التسوق والمعارض الفنية الفريدة التي تستضيفها متاحف قطر والتي تعكس تراث البلد وثقافته.
