The “Code White” team to protect employees from workplace violence

Doha: The Primary Health Care Corporation represented by Occupational Safety and Health administration has developed preventive measures and various technical and administrative solutions to reduce the phenomenon of violence in its health centers, such as developing a written policy on violence in the workplace, and publishing awareness and guiding banners and posters to reduce violence,

Implementation of awareness and training programmes to deal with violence, periodic surveys and periodic inspections, and risk assessment of violence (threats- abuse) at sites and services where patients are directly treated, as well as workplaces most vulnerable to cases of violence among staff. Corrective actions are also taken, such as investigating incidents of violence after they have occurred and making appropriate recommendations to reduce the frequency of such incidents.

Occupational Safety and Health administration, through the direct supervision of the Director of Occupational Safety and Health administration, Dr. Maryam Al-Maslamani, has developed an emergency response system by forming a code white team (response) in each health center from a group of employees who have been professionally trained to regain control over any A situation in which the individual’s escalatory behavior exceeds the affected employee’s ability to control the situation, the Panic alarm system was developed, which is an electronic system designed to call for help in an emergency situation by pressing a button to trigger the alarm, allowing a quick response by the code white team when exposed to violent situations.

“Incidents of violence in society and workplaces cause a negative impact and great harm to the abused in the short and long term, whether it is a physical or psychological impact and other direct and indirect effects”. Dr. Maryam Abdullah Al-Maslamani said.

It can be said that the direct effects are the occurrence of severe, moderate or mild bodily injuries or damage to private and public property, as for the indirect effects, include psychological and mental effects for those who are frequently exposed to violence, which may lead to a disease that is difficult to diagnose or treat in the long run.

الدوحة: طوّرت مؤسسةُ الرعاية الصحية الأولية ممثلةً بإدارة السلامة والصحة المهنية التدابير الوقائية والحلول الفنية والإدارية المختلفة للحد من ظاهرة العنف بالمراكز الصحية التابعة لها كوضع سياسة مكتوبة خاصة بالعنف في مكان العمل، ونشر اللافتات والملصقات التوعوية والإرشادية للحد من العنف، وتنفيذ برامج التوعية والتدريب للتعامل مع العنف، والقيام بالاستطلاعات الدورية وإجراء عمليات التفتيش بشكل دوري، وتقييم المخاطر الخاصة بالعنف (التهديدات- ‏الإساءات) في المواقع والخدمات التي يكون فيها تعامل مباشر مع المرضى، وكذلك مواقع العمل الأكثر عرضة لحدوث حالات عنف بين الموظّفين. كما يتم اتخاذ الإجراءات التصحيحية كالتحقيق في حوادث العنف بعد وقوعها وتقديم التوصيات المناسبة للحدّ من تكرار هذه الحوادث.

وقامت إدارة الصحة والسلامة المهنية من خلال الإشراف المباشر لمدير إدارة الصحة والسلامة المهنية الدكتورة مريم المسلماني بوضع نظام للاستجابة في حال الطوارئ عن طريق تكوين فريق الكود الأبيض (الاستجابة) في كل مركز صحي من مجموعة من الموظفين الذين تم تدريبهم بصورة احترافية على استعادة السيطرة على أي وضع يكون فيه سلوك الفرد التصعيدي يفوق قدرة الموظف المتأثر في السيطرة على الوضع، ومن ثم تمّ تطوير نظام إنذار الذعر، وهو منظومة إلكترونية مصممة لطلب المساعدة في حالة الطوارئ عن طريق الضغط على الزر لإطلاق الإنذار مما يتيح استجابة سريعة من قبل فريق الكود الأبيض عند التعرّض لحالات العنف.

وقالت الدكتورة مريم عبدالله المسلماني: إن حوادث العنف بالمجتمع ومواقع العمل تسبب تأثيرًا سلبيًا وضررًا كبيرًا على المعنف على المديَين القصير والبعيد سواء كان تأثيرًا جسديًا أو نفسيًا وغيره من التأثيرات المباشرة وغير مباشرة.

ويمكن القول: إن التأثيرات المباشرة تتمثل في حدوث إصابات جسدية بليغة أو متوسطة أو خفيفة أو إلحاق الضرر بالممتلكات الخاصة والعامة.

أما التأثيرات غير المباشرة، فإن آثارها نفسية وعقلية للذين يتعرضون للعنف بشكل متكرر ما قد يؤدي إلى مرض يصعب تشخيصُه أو علاجُه على المدى البعيد.
