Qatar Charity builds social housing for poor in Pakistan

Doha: As part of its continued efforts to uplift the living standards of the underprivileged, Qatar Charity (QC) has built two houses for two poor families in Pakistan where it has already constructed 36 houses in the last three years, benefiting 252 people across the country.

QC handed over these two houses to the beneficiaries, in close co-ordination with the district government officials.
The two recently-constructed houses, located in the Jhang district of the Pakistani province of Punjab, include two bedrooms, a corridor, a kitchen, a toilet, a washroom, a courtyard, a cloth washing area, and a motorised water pump equipped with a water tank, in addition to a boundary wall with a gate.

Each 126.4 sq m house contributes to providing a dignified life for the beneficiaries, who had to live in mud houses due to financial hardship.

QC selected beneficiaries who are extremely poor and sole bread earner of their families, in addition to being persons with special needs either due to physical disabilities or chronic diseases, and did not have proper shelters for their family members.

“Qatar Charity has been doing a lot to uplift the socio-economic status of people in the Jhang district since the last couple of years,” said Shahid Abbas, additional deputy commissioner of the Jhang district. “I have seen them making a lot of efforts in implementing projects in the fields of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), in addition to carrying our social welfare projects.”

Abbas cited the remarkable role of QC against the Covid-19 pandemic, and its efforts to build social housing units for poor and needy families across Pakistan.

The beneficiaries were extremely delighted to receive the house keys and as they enter their own homes, noting that QC made their dreams come true by building these houses for them.

“As my father and I are persons with special needs, having our own home was a distant dream that came true with the intervention of Qatar Charity,” said Shugufta Rani, a widow, who, along with her two little daughters, had to live in the mud house of her poor parents, after the death of her husband.

“Qatar Charity has made a noble deed by providing us with a home to live a dignified life,” said Rab Nawaz, a sole breadwinner of a family of six, who had to live in a two-room mud house, and they were always at the stake of weather severities.

Nawaz, who is suffering from chronic liver and kidney diseases, added: “I always prayed for an appropriate living space for my family members, which Allah has given me through Qatar Charity.”

الدوحة: في إطار جهودها المتواصلة في مجال الإيواء، قامت قطر الخيرية ببناء 36 منزلاً في باكستان خلال السنوات الثلاث الماضية في جميع أنحاء البلاد، استفاد منها 252 شخصا من الفئات الأشد حاجة، كما تم مؤخرا تسليم منزلين لأسرتين في إقليم بنجاب الباكستانية، بالتنسيق مع مسؤولي حكومة المنطقة.

وتشتمل المنازل التي تم بناؤها على مساحة حوالي 130 مترا مربعا في منطقة جانغ بإقليم البنجاب على غرف نوم لمرافق أساسية، إضافة الى فناء، وقد تم تزويد كل منزل بمضخة وخزان لمياه الشرب. واختارت قطر الخيرية المستفيدين من الفئات الأكثر فقرا واحتياجا من الأسر التي لامعيل لها، ومن ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة إما بإعاقات جسدية أو نتيجة أمراض مزمنة، ممن ليس لهم منزل يؤويهم.

وفي تصريح له خلال تسليم مفاتيح المنازل للأسر المستفيدة قال السيد شهيد عباس، نائب المفوض لمنطقة جانغ: تقدم قطر الخيرية الكثير من الدعم والمساندة اسهاما في تحسين الوضع الاجتماعي والاقتصادي لسكان منطقة جانغ بشكل مستمر، ويتمثل ذلك في تنفيذها للعديد من المشاريع في مجالات الايواء والغذاء وتوفير المياه والإصحاح، بالإضافة إلى تنفيذ مشاريع الرعاية الاجتماعية ” وأعرب عن شكره لأهل الخير في قطر وتقديره لجهود قطر الخيرية خاصة لدورها البارز في مكافحة جائحة كورونا في باكستان، وتوفيرها مساكن مناسبة للأسر الفقيرة والمحتاجة في مختلف مناطق البلاد.

حلم تحقق

ومن جهتهم عبر المستفيدون عن سعادتهم باستلام مفاتيح المنازل، مشيرين إلى أن المتبرعين بدولة قطر حققوا أحلامهم من خلال بناء هذه المنازل وتمليكها لهم، حيث ذكرت الأرملة شوغوفتا راني التي كانت تعيش مع أبيها في بيته الطيني المتهالك بعد وفاة زوجها أنها وأبوها من ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة، وقد كان الحصول على منزل خاص بهم حلمًا بعيد المنال لكنه تحقق بفضل الله ثم بسخاء المحسنين من أهل الخير.

وبدوره قال رب نواز وهو معيل لأسرة مكونة من ستة أفراد يعاني من أمراض الكبد والكلى المزمنة، “لقد قامت قطر الخيرية بعمل نبيل من خلال توفير سكن لائق لنعيش فيه حياة كريمة. وأضاف: كنت أدعو الله دائمًا من أجل الحصول على سكن مناسب لأسرتي، وها قد تحقق هذا الحلم الذي كنت أنتظره طويلا”.
