QRCS Launches Eye Surgery, Anti-Blindness Convoy in Iraqi Kurdistan

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), in cooperation with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society (IRCS), Barzani Charity Foundation (BCF), and the Health Department of Erbil, has launched an eye disease treatment and anti-blindness medical convoy at camps of displaced Iraqis and Syrian refugees in Iraqi Kurdistan.

In a statement on Monday, the QCRS indicated that the project is aimed at examining more than 1,200 patients at camps, diagnosing the cases, and referring them to hospital for surgical interventions.

To ensure the success of the medical convoy at the Eye Specialist Hospital in Erbil, an optical computerized tomography (OCT) machine was supplied for fundoscopy. It is the first high-tech machine to be used at the hospital to provide care for Iraqi IDPs, Syrian refugees, and the host community in Iraqi Kurdistan.

So far, 1,195 patients have been medically examined, 800 patients have received medications, and 95 cases have been referred to the Eye Specialist Hospital for surgeries.
Director of the Eye Specialist Hospital for surgeries Dr. Shawan Ismail said, “I would like to thank QRCS’s personnel for the services and examinations they have provided since the launch of the project. I laud the great role of the OCT machine contributed by QRCS, which will help us to better diagnose eye diseases among Iraqi IDPs, Syrian refugees, and the host community. I hope for more support for the health sector to serve IDPs and refugees.”

الدوحة: أعلن الهلال الأحمر القطري عن إطلاق قافلة طبية لعلاج أمراض العيون ومكافحة العمى في مخيمات النازحين العراقيين واللاجئين السوريين بإقليم /كوردستان العراق/، بالتعاون مع نظيره العراقي، ومنظمة “بارزاني” الخيرية، ودائرة الصحة في محافظة أربيل.

وأوضح، في بيان اليوم، أن المشروع هدفه فحص أكثر من 1,200 مريض داخل المخيمات؛ لتشخيص الحالات المرضية وعلاجها، وإحالة 100 منهم للمستشفى لإجراء التدخلات الجراحية اللازمة.

وأشار إلى أنه لضمان نجاح القافلة الطبية، تم تجهيز مستشفى العيون التخصصي في مدينة أربيل بجهاز تصوير ضوئي مقطعي محوسب (OCT) لفحص وتشخيص مشكلات شبكية العين، وهو أول جهاز متطور يدخل العمل في المستشفى لتوفير العناية للمرضى من النازحين العراقيين واللاجئين السوريين، والمجتمع المضيف في إقليم كوردستان العراق.

وذكر أنه تم حتى الآن توقيع الكشف والمعاينة الطبية على 1,195 مريضا، وتوزيع الأدوية على 800 مريض، وتحويل 95 حالة لإجراء العمليات في المستشفى المذكور.
