The Guardian asked: “Will there be a second wave of Coronavirus epidemic?”
At a BBC report, the British newspaper says that while some countries have begun to consider easing quarantine procedures and economic closures, Britain and Germany have expressed fears of a new wave of the epidemic.
The Guardian explains that past epidemics have seen different patterns, such as the 1918 influenza pandemic that killed more than 50 million people, and some see it as a reference for epidemics that have spread at several stages, each of which was more deadly than the previous one.
It refers to other flu epidemics, including one that occurred between 1957 and 1968, in several waves, as well as the 2009 H1N1 flu virus, which began with a first wave in April and then a second wave in the fall in the United States and the Northern Hemisphere.
“The examiners of these types of epidemic outbreaks use simulation models that take into account several conditions, including vaccine methods, working methods, virus behaviour, health authorities’ practices in the face of the epidemic, as well as community behaviour and the proportions of citizens who are immune to epidemics and are called herd immunity.”
Although patterns of outbreaks in the second wave are different, there are always common concerns, as the second waves of the outbreak are witnessing the rapid return of epidemics to infect humans .
According to the Guardian, the first warning came from Singapore, which is experiencing a rapid rise in the number of people infected with the epidemic despite the global praise it received after its rapid and effective response to the first wave, as did China, which was able to eliminate the first outbreak in Hubei Province but is now experiencing an outbreak in the northern provinces.
Experts believe that the second wave will occur more clearly in conjunction with the easing of quarantine procedures.

تساءلت صحيفة “الغارديان”: “هل ستكون هناك موجة ثانية لوباء كورونا”؟
تقول الصحيفة البريطانية – في تقرير لها بحسب موقع “بي بي سي”- إنه في الوقت الذي بدأت فيه بعض الدول التفكير في تخفيف إجراءات الحظر الصحي والإغلاق الاقتصادي، أعربت بريطانيا وألمانيا عن مخاوف من اندلاع موجة جديدة للوباء.
وتوضح الغارديان أن الأوبئة التي اندلعت في السابق شهدت أنماطا مختلفة مثل وباء الإنفلونزا الذي تفشى عام 1918 وقتل أكثر من 50 مليون شخص ويعتبره البعض مرجعا للأوبئة التي تفشت على عدة مراحل كانت كل مرحلة منها أكثر فتكا من التي تسبقها.
وتشير إلى أوبئة أخرى من الانفلونزا بينها وباء وقع بين عامي 1957 و1968 تفشى على عدة موجات، كما حدث أيضا مع فيروس انفلونزا “إتش1 إن1” عام 2009 الذي بدأ بموجة أول في شهر أبريل ثم موجة ثانية في الخريف في الولايات المتحدة ونصف الكرة الأرضية الشمالي.
تضيف أن دارسي هذه الأنماط من التفشي الوبائي يستخدمون نماذج محاكاة تراعي عدة شروط، بينها أساليب استخدام اللقاحات وطرق عملها وسلوك الفيروسات وممارسات السلطات الصحية في مواجهة الوباء علاوة على السلوك المجتمعي ونسب المواطنين الذين يحصلون على مناعة من الأوبئة ويطلق عليها مناعة القطيع”.
وتابعت أنه بالرغم من اختلاف أنماط تفشي الأوبئة في الموجة الثانية إلا أن هناك دوما مخاوف مشتركة، حيث إن الموجات الثانية للتفشي تشهد عودة الأوبئة لإصابة البشر بشكل سريع.
وتقول الغارديان إن الإنذار الأول جاء من سنغافورة التي تشهد تصاعدا سريعا لأعداد المصابين بالوباء رغم الثناء العالمي الذي نالته بعد تصديها السريع والفعال للموجة الأولى، كما حدث الأمر نفسه في الصين التي تمكنت من القضاء على التفشي الأول في مقاطعة هوبي لكنها الآن تشهد تفشيا للوباء في مقاطعات الشمال.
وتوضح أن الخبراء يرون أن الموجة الثانية ستحدث بشكل أوضح بالتزامن مع تخفيف إجراءات الحظر.
