Senior HMC Leader Appointed to Prestigious World Health Organization Body

Doha: The Chair of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Hamad Medical Corporation Dr Einas Al Kuwari has been elected as a member to the prestigious Scientific Council of the International Agency for Research on Cancer.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is the specialized cancer agency of the World Health Organization. The objective of the IARC is to promote international collaboration in cancer research. It has members from 27 countries.
Dr. Al Kuwaris term will be for four years and she is the first from Qatar to be elected to the Council. She is one of six new members of the Council, which is based in Lyon, France.
“The main responsibilities of the members of the council are the evaluation of the scientific activities of the IARC and give advice to the governing body,” Dr. Al Kuwari said. “It also promotes international collaboration in cancer research. For more than 50 years, the IARC has been making important contributions to the global fight against cancer and produces original research that is broadly acknowledged for its high quality and independence. I am honored to be able to play a role.”

الدوحة: انتخبت الدكتورة إيناس الكواري، رئيس قسم المختبرات الطبية والأمراض بمؤسسة حمد الطبية عضوا في المجلس العلمي التابع للوكالة الدولية لأبحاث السرطان، وهي وكالة متخصصة في هذا المرض، تعمل ضمن منظمة الصحة العالمية، وتهدف إلى تشجيع التعاون الدولي في مجال أبحاث السرطان وتضم 27 دولة.
وستكون مدة انتخاب الدكتورة إيناس في هذا المنصب المرموق أربع سنوات، علما أن دولة قطر تعد واحدة من دولتين عربيتين فقط ضمن عدد من الدول الأخرى ممثلة في هذا المجلس العلمي الذي يتخذ من مدينة ليون الفرنسية مقراً له.
وأوضحت الدكتورة إيناس الكواري في تعليق على نبأ تعيينها أن المسؤوليات الرئيسية لأعضاء المجلس هي العمل على تقييم الأنشطة العلمية للوكالة الدولية لأبحاث السرطان وإسداء النصائح للهيئة الإدارية والتشجيع على التعاون الدولي في مجال أبحاث السرطان.
وقالت:” لقد قامت الوكالة الدولية لأبحاث السرطان منذ أكثر من خمسين عاماً بإسهامات هامة في محاربة السرطان على المستوى الدولي، كما أصدرت الأبحاث الأصلية المعترف بها على مستوى واسع لجودتها العالية واستقلاليتها. أشعر بفخر كبير لانتخابي لأداء هذا الدور”.
