WWRC Receives Prestigious International Recognition

Doha: The Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP) in the United States has designated the Obstetric Anesthesia Services at Hamad Medical Corporation’s Women’s Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) as a Center of Excellence (COE).

The WWRC is the first hospital in the Middle East to receive the prestigious designation recognizing institutions and programs that demonstrate excellent obstetric anesthesia care, for successfully demonstrating high quality patient focused, safe, and effective care for pregnant women as well as excellence in education and research.

The designation of hospitals as centers of excellence by SOAP is an annual accreditation program, with new centers announced each spring.

The WWRC’s Center of Excellence status will remain valid for four years with its application having met certain criteria covering firstly all aspects of obstetric anesthesia care including personnel and staffing; equipment, protocols, and policies; simulation and team training; obstetric emergency management; cesarean delivery and labor analgesia care; recommendations and guidelines implementation; and quality assurance and patient follow-up systems. Excellence in education and research is also included in the exhaustive list of criteria needed to fulfil the WWRC’s COE award by SOAP. Each metric is reviewed annually by the SOAP COE committee and updated as appropriate.

HMC’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Abdulla Al Ansari said: “the designation of WWRC as a Center of Excellence by the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology shows our commitment to promote excellence, safe and effective care for each and every one of our patients including women who receive obstetric anesthesia care at WWRC.”

He explained that many anesthesiologists across HMC, and notably at WWRC, play an essential role in the interdisciplinary care team and management of pregnant women.

With around 20,000 births per year, WWRC offers personalized family-centered care to all women and newborns in Qatar. Its scope of services ranges from prenatal to perinatal, including postnatal care and newborn care.

For his part, WWRC’s Acting Chief Executive Officer and Medical Director, Dr. Hilal Al Rifai said: at WWRC, we are continuously improving and upgrading our services to cater to the increasing needs of our patients across a broad range of specialties and sub-specialties,” expressing WWRC’s pride of having been designated as a Center of Excellence by the Society for Obstetrics Anesthesia and Perinatology.

“It further demonstrates our commitment to excellence in the care that we offer to women at the Women’s Wellness and Research Center,” he added.

For her part, WWRC’s Consultant Anesthesiologist Dr. Fatima Khatoon who spearheaded the WWRC’s application for SOAP’s COE accreditation status said that this achievement is testament to the center’s dedication to high quality, safe and effective care, which it will continue to provide to all our mothers in Qatar.

The SOAP, with a mission to improve pregnancy-related outcomes of women and neonates, was founded in 1968 to provide a forum for discussion of problems unique to the peripartum period. SOAP is comprised of anesthesiologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, and basic scientists from around the world.

ويعتبر مركز صحة المرأة والأبحاث، المستشفى الأول في الشرق الأوسط الذي يحصل على هذا التصنيف الذي يمنح للمؤسسات والبرامج الصحية التي تطبق رعاية متميزة في تخدير الولادة، وذلك لنجاح خدمات تخدير الولادة في تحقيق رعاية عالية الجودة تتمحور حول النساء الحوامل بفعالية وأمان ولتميزها في مجالي التعليم والأبحاث.

ويأتي تصنيف المستشفيات كمراكز تميز من قبل جمعية تخدير الولادة وطب الفترة المحيطة بالولادة ضمن برنامج الاعتماد السنوي الذي يتم الاعلان عنه في الربيع من كل عام.

وسيتمتع مركز صحة المرأة والابحاث بصلاحية هذا الاعتماد لأربع سنوات لنجاحه في تطبيق معايير معينة تغطي كافة مظاهر الرعاية المتعلقة بتخدير الولادة إضافة إلى الجوانب المرتبطة بالتوظيف والكوادر والمعدات والبروتوكولات والسياسات والتدريب بالمحاكاة وتدريب الفرق وطوارئ التوليد والولادة القيصرية والرعاية المسكنة للمخاض، وتطبيق التوصيات والتوجيهات وضمان الجودة وأنظمة متابعة المرضى، كما يدرج التميز في التعليم والأبحاث في القائمة الشاملة للمعايير اللازمة للوفاء بجائزة التميز لمركز صحة المرأة والابحاث التي تمنحها الجمعية. ويتم مراجعة كل مقياس سنويا من قبل لجنة مركز التميز في الجمعية وتحدثيها حسب الاقتضاء.

وقال الدكتور عبدالله الانصاري رئيس الإدارة الطبية بمؤسسة حمد الطبية أن تصنيف مركز صحة المرأة والأبحاث كمركز متميز من قبل جمعية تخدير الولادة وطب الفترة المحيطة بالولادة يظهر التزام مؤسسة حمد بتعزيز التميز والرعاية الآمنة والفعالة لكافة المرضى بما في ذلك النساء اللواتي يتلقين رعاية التخدير التوليدي في مركز صحة المرأة والأبحاث.

وأوضح ان العديد من أطباء التخدير في مؤسسة حمد الطبية ولا سيما بمركز صحة المرأة والأبحاث يقومون بأدوار أساسية ضمن فريق الرعاية متعدد الاختصاصات وإدارة حالات الحمل.

ويستقبل مركز صحة المرأة والأبحاث نحو 20 ألف ولادة سنويا ويقدم رعاية تتمحور حول المريض لكافة النساء والمواليد في قطر ويتراوح نطاق الخدمات التي يقدمها المركز من خدمات ما قبل الولادة إلى الخدمات المحيطة بالولادة بما فيها رعاية ما بعد الولادة ورعاية حديثي الولادة.

الجدير بالذكر أن جمعية تخدير الولادة وطب الفترة المحيطة بالولادة تأسست في عام 1968 بهدف تحسين النتائج المرتبطة بالحمل عند النساء والمواليد وهي تعمل على توفير منتدى لمناقشة المشاكل الفريدة خلال الفترة المحيطة بالولادة، وتتألف الجمعية من أطباء التخدير واطباء الامراض النسائية والتوليد وأطباء الأطفال والعلماء والباحثين من جميع أنحاء العالم.
