WHO and Scientists Explain Rumors About Covid Vaccines

Doha: WHO and immunologists have rejected claims that vaccines currently in use against Covid-19 contribute to the spread of new covid-19 strains, stressing that the issue has reached its limit.

Reports have recently circulated on France’s social networking websites claiming that people vaccinated with corona vaccine have become more able to infect others with “strong strains” of the virus, but WHO and immunologists maintain that these claims are unfounded and not based on scientific pillars.

In a statement to Euronews, WHO spokesman Professor Luke O’Neill noted that there was “no evidence” that people vaccinated against Corona had a higher potential for transmitting the infection with more powerful strains of the virus, but on the contrary, “to combat transmission, vaccination is part of the solution along with the measures and restrictions currently imposed by health authorities.”

Professor Luke O’Neill, professor of biochemistry and immunology at Trinity College Dublin, said the most important step in the course of the corona fight is to “spread the vaccine”, saying: “Any questioning of vaccines and their effectiveness sends a totally contrary message (to the tasks of eradicating the virus),” stressing that as many people as possible should be vaccinated in order to prevent the emergence of mutated strains of the virus and to stop its spread.

Misinformation

According to Euronews, allegations about covid-19 vaccines are devoid of any scientific evidence.

WHO explains that viruses by their very nature multiply and change in so-called “mutations” that can also have a difference in genetic sequences, and new strains of COV have already emerged in recent months within the United Kingdom, South Africa and Brazil, which are known to be the fastest spreading among humans.

But the process of covid-19 change and mutation is not linked to the covid-19 vaccine, but can occur when the virus is transmitted and spread among humans, says Professor O’Neill: “The vaccine enhances the immune response, so mutated strains (of the virus) do not appear in people who have been vaccinated at all, but are likely to appear in people who do not have an immune response.”

More than 125 million people around the world have been infected with the new Coronavirus, of which more than 2.8 million have died since the first cases of the virus were detected in China in December last year.

وانتشرت على مواقع التواصل في فرنسا مؤخراً تقارير تدّعي أن الأشخاص الذين تمّ تطعيمهم بلقاح ضد “كورونا” أصبحوا مرشّحين أكثر من غيرهم لإصابة الآخرين بـ”سلالات قوية” من الفيروس، غير أن منظمة الصحة العالمية، وعلماء المناعة يؤكدون أن هذه الإدعاءات لا أساس لها من الصحة ولا تستند على ركائز علمية.

وفي تصريح لموقع “يورونيوز”، أشار المتحدث باسم منظمة الصحة العالمية، البروفيسور لوك أونيل إلى أنه “ليس ثمة دليلٌ” على ما يدّعيه البعض بأن الأشخاص الذين تمّ تطعيمهم ضد كورونا أصبح لديهم إمكانية أعلى على نقل العدوى بسلالات متحورة وأكثر قوة للفيروس، بل على العكس “إنه لمكافحة انتقال العدوى، يعدّ التطعيم جزءاً من الحلّ إلى جانب التدابير والقيود التي تفرضها السلطات الصحية حالياً”.

ويرى البروفيسور لوك أونيل، أستاذ الكيمياء الحيوية وعلم المناعة في كلية ترينيتي بالعاصمة الإيرلندية دبلن، أن الخطوة الأهم في مسار مكافح كورونا هو “نشر اللقاح”، ويقول: “إن أي تشكيك باللقاحات وفعاليتها، إنما يبعث برسالة مناقضة تماماً (لمهام القضاء على الفيروس)”، مشدداً على ضرورة أن يتم تطعيم أكبر عدد ممكن من البشر من أجل الحيلولة دون ظهور سلالات متحورة من الفيروس ومن أجل وقف انتشاره.

معلومات مضللة

وذكر موقع “يورو نيوز” أن الادعاءات حول اللقاحات المضادة لـ”كوفيد-19″ تخلو من أيّ أدلة علمية.

وتوضح منظمة الصحة العالمية أن الفيروسات بطبيعتها تتكاثر وتتغيّر فيما يُعراف بـ”الطفرات” التي يمكن أن يكون لها أيضاً اختلافٌ في التسلسل الجيني، وقد ظهرت بالفعل سلالات جديدة من فيروس كورونا في الأشهر الأخيرة داخل المملكة المتحدة وفي جنوب أفريقيا والبرازيل، تلك السلالات التي عُرف عنها أنها أسرع انتشاراً بين البشر.

لكنّ عملية تغيّر وتحوّر فيروس كورونا ليست مرتبطة باللقاح المضاد لـ”كوفيد-19″، وإنما يمكن لتلك العملية أن تحدث حينما ينتقل الفيروس وينتشر بين البشر، وفي هذا الصدد، يقول البروفيسور أونيل: أن “اللقاح يعزز الاستجابة المناعية، لذا لا تظهر السلالات المتحوّرة (للفيروس) في الأشخاص الذين تم تطعيمهم على الإطلاق، إنما من المرجح أن تظهر في الأشخاص الذين ليس لديهم استجابة مناعية”.

يذكر أن أكثر من 125 مليون شخص حول العالم أصيبوا بفيروس كورونا المستجد، توفي منهم أكثر من 2.8 مليون شخص، وذلك منذ أن اكتشفت أولى حالات الإصابة بالفيروس في الصين في شهر ديسمبر من العام قبل الماضي.
