Doha: The results of a new study revealed that blood types A, B, AB or O are not related to severe cases of covid-19.

An early report from China indicated that blood types may influence the risk of infection with the Coronavirus. This is supported by subsequent studies from Italy and Spain, the researchers said.
However, other studies from Denmark and the United States provided mixed and conflicting results.
To illustrate, researchers led by Dr. Jeffrey Anderson, Cardiologist at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah, analyzed data from tens of thousands of patients at Intermountain Healthcare, a nonprofit health system that includes 24 hospitals and 215 clinics in Utah, Idaho and Nevada, and among those included in the analysis, it was found that nearly 11,500 were infected with the coronavirus, while the rest tested negative.
On April 5 in the journal JAMA Network Open, the researchers reported that blood type did not play a significant role in a person’s risk of developing “Covid-19”.
“I’ve always said that this whole thing with blood types is just nonsense. It’s enough for people to be terrified if they have one type of blood or are unsuspecting,” said Dr. Aaron Glatt, chief medical officer and epidemiologist at the hospital at Mount Sinai, South Nassau in Oceanside, New York.
