How can a person know if the novel COV-19 vaccine he has received is effective?
A question that many may ask as side effects vary depending on people’s immunity.
Al Jazeera quoted Health Digest as saying that reports from vaccinated individuals were split to two categories: those who experienced side effects after receiving the vaccine dose, such as headaches, fever and fatigue at or near the injection site; and those who had no symptoms at all.
Many doctors say the symptoms are normal and indicate the body’s immune-boosting response.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is common not to react after receiving a dose of the vaccine, but it is also normal to develop swelling, redness or pain at the injection site, as well as fever, chills and muscle pain.
Side effects often last only a few days, but may prevent the person from performing his daily tasks.
According to HealthLine, adverse reactions often appear after receiving the second dose for Pfizer-BioNTech and Modena vaccines.
Guidelines to ensure effectiveness
In an interview with Healthline, Dr. Debra Powell stressed that the presence or absence of adverse reactions is not a cause for concern, given the different response from person to person.
For pfizer and Moderna, the best way to ensure optimal immunity is to get the second dose and complete the full vaccination.
Dr. Powell added that the first dose will significantly improve immunity while the second dose will grant the body an immunity of up to 95%.
In fact, it is not the side effects or their absence that determine the effectiveness of the vaccine, but getting the second dose “as close as possible to the recommended time period,” according to guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

وغالبا ما تستمر الآثار الجانبية لبضعة أيام فقط، لكنها قد تمنع صاحبها من أداء مهامه اليومية.
وحسب موقع هيلث لاين فإن التفاعلات العكسية غالبا ما تظهر بعد تلقي الجرعة الثانية بالنسبة للقاحَي فايزر-بيونت، وموديرنا .
إرشادات لضمان الفعالية
وفي مقابلة لها مع موقع “هيلث لاين”، أكدت الدكتورة ديبرا باول أن وجود تفاعلات عكسية أو انعدامها لا يدعو للقلق؛ نظرا لاختلاف الاستجابة من شخص لآخر.
وتكمن أفضل طريقة لضمان المناعة المثلى – بالنسبة لكل من لقاح فايزر وموديرنا- في الحصول على الجرعة الثانية وإكمال التلقيح التام.
وأضافت الدكتورة باول أنه من شأن الجرعة الأولى تحسين المناعة بنسبة تصل إلى كبيرة في حين أن الجرعة الثانية ستكسب الجسم بمناعة تصل إلى 95% .
وفي الحقيقة، إن الآثار الجانبية أو غيابها ليست ما يحدد فعالية اللقاح، بل الحصول على الجرعة الثانية في “أقرب ما يمكن من الفترة الزمنية الموصى بها”، وذلك حسب إرشادات المراكز الأمريكية للسيطرة على الأمراض والوقاية منها.
