Oxford Business Group: Modern Applications Ease Pressure on Health System

Doha: A report by The Oxford Business Group confirmed the role played by Qatar Computing Research Institute in developing a series of new digital platforms in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health. The report, which dealt with many trials at the international level, said that the institute’s applications contributed to reducing and putting pressure on the health system in the country, where Qatar Computing Research Institute launched an online self-assessment app that educates users about covid-19 symptoms, and gives advise when seeking medical help.
The same source added that higher education institutions in emerging economies adopted different models in response to the epidemic, some working closely with government agencies, while others worked to establish partnerships with the private sector.
The Oxford Business Group report noted that, within this diverse panorama, it is possible to identify three key areas in which universities are making great strides. The first is medical research and development, including Covid-19 vaccines.
Qatar Computing Research Institute is a national research institute, established in 2010 as an entity of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, the Institute is an independent, non-profit organization that supports Qatar’s transition from a carbon economy to a knowledge economy. Qatar Computing Research Institute operates under the Hamad Bin Khalifa University.
The Institute supports Qatar Foundation’s mission by helping to build Qatar’s innovative and technical capabilities. It focuses on addressing the challenges of large-scale computing that address national priorities for growth and development.
In this regard, the Institute conducts research into interdisciplinary computing with global standards that relate to the needs of Qatar, the wider Arab region and the world at large.
The Institute conducts basic research in such areas as Arabic language techniques, social computing, data analytics and cybersecurity. The institute’s research is in line with Qatar’s National Research Strategy and supports the strategic priorities outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.

الدوحة: اكد تقرير لمجموعة أكسفورد بزنس جروب على الدور الذي لعبه معهد قطر لبحوث الحوسبة (QCRI)، التابع لجامعة حمد بن خليفة، في تطوير سلسلة من المنصات الرقمية الجديدة بالتعاون مع وزارة الصحة العامة. وقال التقرير الذي تناول العديد من التجارب على المستوى الدولي أن تطبيقات المعهد ساهمت في التقليل والضغط على النظام الصحي في الدولة، حيث أطلق معهد قطر لبحوث الحوسبة تطبيقًا للتقييم الذاتي عبر الإنترنت يقوم بتثقيف المستخدمين حول أعراض Covid-19، وينصح عند طلب المساعدة الطبية.
واضاف ذات المصدر أن مؤسسات التعليم العالي في الاقتصاديات الناشئة تبنت نماذج مختلفة كرد فعل على الوباء، لتعمل بعضها بشكل وثيق مع الهيئات الحكومية، بينما عمل البعض الآخر على إقامة شراكات مع القطاع الخاص ؛ كما عملت بعض الجامعات بشكل مستقل، بينما قامت بعض الجامعات بالتنسيق مع مؤسسات التعليم العالي الأخرى ؛ ويشارك البعض بأبحاثهم وآرائهم بحرية، بينما قامت جامعات أخرى بتطوير مناهج هادفة للربح من أجل ضمان استدامة المبادرات.
ولفت تقرير أكسفورد بزنس جروب أنه، ضمن هذه البانوراما المتنوعة، من الممكن تحديد ثلاثة مجالات رئيسية تخطو فيها الجامعات خطوات كبيرة. الأول هو البحث والتطوير الطبي، بما في ذلك لقاحات Covid-19 ؛ والثاني هو تطوير الحلول الرقمية لمواجهة التحديات في قطاع الأعمال والمجتمع ؛ والثالث يتعلق بالتعليم الذي تقوده التكنولوجيا.
ويعد معهد قطر لبحوث الحوسبة معهًدا قوميًا للبحوث. تأسس المعهد عام 2010 بصفته أحد الكيانات التابعة لمؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، وهي مؤسسة مستقلة غير ربحية تدعم تحول قطر من اقتصاد الكربون إلى الاقتصاد المعرفي. ويعمل معهد قطر لبحوث الحوسبة تحت مظلة جامعة حمد بن خليفة.
ويدعم المعهد مهمة مؤسسة قطر من خلال مساعدتها في بناء القدرات الابتكارية والتقنية لدولة قطر. وهو يركز على معالجة تحديات الحوسبة واسعة النطاق التي تتناول الأولويات الوطنية للنمو والتنمية.
وفي هذا الصدد، يجري المعهد بحوثا في مجال الحوسبة المتعددة التخصصات وذات المعايير العالمية التي تتعلق باحتياجات قطر والمنطقة العربية الأوسع والعالم بأسره. ويضطلع المعهد ببحوث أساسية في تلك المجالات مثل تقنيات اللغة العربية والحوسبة الاجتماعية وتحليلات البيانات والأمن السيبراني. وتتوافق البحوث التي تجرى في المعهد مع إستراتيجية قطر الوطنية للبحوث، وتدعم الأولويات الإستراتيجية المحددة في رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030.
