5% of Vaccine Recipients may get infected: Dr. Muna Al Maslamani

Doha: Dr. Muna Al Maslamani, Medical Director of Communicable Diseases Center at Hamad Medical Corporation, said that intensive medical trials of Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines show that both vaccines are 95% effective against Covid-19 symptoms after taking both doses and maximum protection is enhanced about 10-14 days after taking the second dose.

“This means that vaccines are highly effective in reducing people’s infection rate, but they are still vulnerable to Covid-19 without symptoms,” al-Maslamani said in a tweet posted by Hamad Medical Corporation on Twitter.

“This is a high level of effectiveness, but it is important to realize that there is no 100% effective vaccine.”

“95% of effectiveness means that a small number of 5% of those who have received the vaccine may become infected as a result of the virus, and until we know more about the vaccine’s ability to prevent the spread of the virus, it is important that vaccine recipients are keen to follow all preventive standards.”

“We must use all available tools, namely, vaccination against Covid 19, and the application of precautionary and preventive measures such as social distancing and wearing masks to reduce the spread of Covid 19.”

الدوحة: قالت الدكتورة منى المسلماني المدير الطبي لمركز الأمراض الانتقالية بمؤسسة حمد الطبية إن التجارب الطبية المكثفة على لقاحي “فايزر/بيونتيك” و “موديرنا” تظهر أن كلا اللقاحين فعالان بنسبة 95% ضد الإصابة بأعراض كوفيد-19 بعد الحصول على الجرعتين وتتعزز الحماية القصوى بعد حوالي 10-14 يوم بعد أخذ الجرعة الثانية.

وأضافت المسلماني في تغريدات نشرتها مؤسسة حمد الطبية عبر تويتر: يعني هذا أن اللقاحات فعالة بشكل كبير في الحد من إصابة الأشخاص بالمرض الناجم عن الفيروس، إلا أنهم لا يزالون عرضة للإصابة بفيروس كوفيد-19 دون ظهور أعراض.

وتابعت: يعتبر ذلك مستوى عال ومشجع من الفعالية لكن من المهم أن ندرك أنه لا يوجد لقاح فعال بنسبة 100% .

واستطردت: إن نسبة 95% من الفعالية تعني أن عدد قليل من الأشخاص بنسبة 5% من الذين حصلوا على اللقاح قد يصابوا بالمرض نتيجة الفيروس، ولحين معرفة المزيد عن قدرة اللقاحات على منع انتشار الفيروس، من المهم أن يحرص الحاصلون على اللقاح على اتباع كافة المعايير الوقائية.

واختتمت د. المسلماني تصريحاتها قائلة: يجب علينا أن نقوم باستخدام جميع الأدوات المتاحة وهي التطعيم ضد كوفيد ١٩، وتطبيق الإجراءات الاحترازية والوقائية مثل التباعد الاجتماعي ولبس الكمامه للحد من انتشار مرض كوفيد ١٩.
