Doha: A recent U.S. study has revealed the reason for the recent rapid mutation of Coronavirus, particularly as the virus’s ability to kill infected people in some cases has increased further, citing the potential for vaccines to control them.
The study, conducted by U.S. researchers from Boston Children’s Hospital in the United States, confirmed that spinal proteins, known as “Spike”, are behind the rapid changes that occur to the virus.
The study indicated that the Spike proteins, which are collected on the outside of the corona virus, are the most stable, and are the cause behind the new variants of the virus, and thus lead to its spread faster than the original strain.
Professor Bing Chen, professor of pediatrics at Boston Children’s Hospital, said the study examined changes in spinal proteins belonging to one of the new mutations that occurred in Brazil, South Africa and the United Kingdom.
The study, published in the journal Science, concluded that the protein of the virus’s original strain sometimes breaks down before it is properly associated with the human host receptors, which means it will not be properly integrated with but this obstacle appears to have been corrected in subsequent mutations of the virus, and the spinal proteins on the back of the virus do not respond easily, as was the case in the original virus.
On the possibilities of Corona vaccines in dealing with these mutations of the virus, Professor Chen said: This should not be a concern. Pointing out the possibility of controlling them by vaccines.

الدوحة: كشفت دراسة أمريكية حديثة عن السبب وراء التحور السريع لفيروس كورونا في الآونة الأخيرة، لا سيما في ظل تصاعد قدرة الفيروس على الفتك بالمصابين في بعض الحالات بشكل أكبر، مشيرة كذلك إلى إمكانية اللقاحات في السيطرة عليها.
وأكدت الدراسة – التي أجراها باحثون أمريكيون من مستشفى بوسطن للأطفال في الولايات المتحدة – أن البروتينات الشوكية، التي تعرف باسم “السنبلة”، تكمن وراء المتغيرات السريعة التي تحدث للفيروس.
وأشارت الدراسة إلى أن بروتينات السنبلة التي تتجمع على الجزء الخارجي من فيرس كورونا تعد الأكثر ثباتا، وتعود إليها أسباب المتغيرات الجديدة التي تطرأ على الفيروس، وتؤدي بالتالي إلى انتشاره على نحو أسرع من السلالة الأصلية.
ويقول البروفيسور بينج تشين، أستاذ طب الأطفال في مستشفى بوسطن للأطفال، إن الدراسة فحصت التغيرات التي حدثت في البروتينات الشوكية التي تنتمي إلى إحدى الطفرات الجديدة التي حدثت للفيروس في كل من البرازيل وجنوب إفريقيا والمملكة المتحدة.
وخلصت الدراسة – التي نشرت بمجلة “ساينس” – إلى أن بروتين السلالة الأصلية للفيروس ينهار أحيانًا قبل أن يرتبط بشكل صحيح بمستقبلات المضيف البشري، مما يعني أنه لن يندمج بشكل صحيح مع ولكن يبدو أن هذه العقبة قد تم تصحيحها في الطفرات اللاحقة للفيروس، وأصبحت البروتينات الشوكية على ظهر الفيروس لا تستجيب بسهولة، مثلما كان يحدث في الفيروس الأصلي.
وحول إمكانيات لقاحات كورونا من التعامل مع هذه التحورات للفيروس، قال البروفسيور تشين : إن هذا لا ينبغي أن يكون مصدر قلق.. لافتا إلى إمكانية السيطرة عليها بواسطة اللقاحات .
