HBKU Press Wins 3rd Prize in Istanbul Copyright Awards

Doha: Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press (HBKU Press) is proud to announce that it won third prize at the Istanbul Copyright Awards held as part of the 6th International Istanbul Fellowship Program (IFP) from March 9-11. The awards aim to encourage the exchange of copyrights from Turkish to foreign languages and contribute to the development of the publishing sector and cultural cooperation in the region.
Organized by the Turkish Press and Publishers Copyright and Licensing Society, with support of the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Culture and Tourism and Governorate of Istanbul, the awards honor foreign publishing houses that contribute to the translation of works from the Turkish publishing sector into other languages, and the subsequent promotion of these works across the globe.
“HBKU Press is committed to engaging in the cross-cultural exchange of information with fellow publishers in Turkey and with international publishers around the world,” explained Bachar Chebaro, Executive Director of HBKU Press. “This award further cements HBKU Press’s integral role in the copyright exchange market in the region and beyond.”
HBKU Press was recognized among the 52 publishers from 26 countries participating in 6th International Istanbul Publishing Fellowship for its continued efforts in cultural rapprochement.
“HBKU Press is distinguished for its publication genre diversity as well as the high quality of its publication’s production, which meets international standards,” said Dr. Mohammed Agirakca, Vice President of the Award Committee of the IFP. “The evaluation committee was extremely impressed with HBKU Press’s work and commitment to cultural exchange with Turkey through its continued participation in the International Istanbul Publishing Fellowship and its bilateral support of the publishing sector in the region,”
Over the past few years, the copyrights to several award-winning and notable Turkish language books were acquired, translated, and published by HBKU Press into Arabic. Conversely, the copyrights of works by several high-profile Qatari authors and other HBKU Press books were translated into Turkish as well.
“Copyright exchange and translations support the transfer of thought and knowledge between different people, societies and cultures,” added Chebaro. “It becomes a pivotal way to promote Arab literary and academic talents to the world, while also introducing new modes of thinking to our audience in Qatar.”

الدوحة: أعلنت دار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر، عن فوزها بالمركز الثالث في مسابقة /جوائز إسطنبول لحقوق التأليف/،
وذلك في إطار فعاليات الدورة السادسة من برنامج زمالة إسطنبول للنشر، التي انعقدت خلال الفترة من 9 إلى 11 مارس الجاري.
وقد نالت دار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر، هذه الجائزة من بين (52) ناشرا يمثلون 26 دولة، ممن شاركوا في الدورة السادسة للبرنامج المذكور.
وتهدف المسابقة إلى تشجيع تبادل حقوق النشر والترجمة من اللغة التركية إلى اللغات الأخرى والإسهام في تنمية قطاع النشر والتعاون الثقافي في المنطقة.
وقال السيد بشار شبارو المدير التنفيذي لدار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر، “تواصل الدار التزامها المعهود بالمشاركة في حركة تبادل المعلومات بين الثقافات بالتعاون مع زملائنا الأتراك وغيرهم من الناشرين الدوليين في أنحاء العالم، وتأتي هذه الجائزة تأكيدا على الدور الفاعل لدار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر في مجال تبادل حقوق النشر داخل المنطقة وخارجها”.
وأضاف أن تبادل حقوق النشر والترجمة يدعم حركة الفكر والمعرفة بين الشعوب المختلفة، وقد أصبح ذلك التبادل من الوسائل المحورية لإخراج الأدب والمواهب الأكاديمية من العالم العربي إلى شتى أنحاء العالم، إلى جانب تقديم أنماط جديدة للفكر إلى الجمهور في دولة قطر.
من جهته، قال السيد محمد أغراقجة نائب رئيس لجنة التنسيق في برنامج زمالة إسطنبول للنشر “تميزت دار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر بتنوع منشوراتها وارتفاع مستوى جودتها، بما يضاهي المعايير العالمية، وقد لفت نظر لجنة التقييم الأعمال المتميزة للدار والتزامها بالتبادل الثقافي مع تركيا، الذي يتضح من خلال مشاركتها المتواصلة في برنامج زمالة إسطنبول للنشر ودعمها التبادلي لقطاع النشر في المنطقة”.
وتقدم الجوائز، التي ينظمها اتحاد الناشرين الأتراك بدعم من وزارة الثقافة والسياحة في جمهورية تركيا ومحافظة إسطنبول، تقديرا لجهود دور النشر غير التركية المساهمة في ترجمة الأعمال المؤلفة باللغة التركية إلى اللغات الأخرى ونشرها في أنحاء العالم.
يذكر أن دار جامعة حمد بن خليفة للنشر قد اقتنت على مدار الأعوام الماضية حقوق نشر العديد من الكتب التركية المتميزة والحائزة على أرقى الجوائز، علاوة على ترجمتها ونشرها باللغة العربية. وفي المقابل، قامت عدة دور نشر تركية باقتناء حقوق ترجمة كتب صادرة عن الدار لنشرها باللغة التركية.
