MoPH clarifies facts about “Covid-20”, number of doses of first vaccine shipment

Doha: Dr. Suha Al Bayat, head of vaccination department at the Ministry of Health, explained reality about the new strain of the coronavirus, which has been called “Covid 20”, and has appeared in a number of countries, stressing that the number of doses that arrived in the first shipment of Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines to Qatar is sufficient to cover the priority categories.

Dr. Suha Al Bayat said during a “live question-and-answer session about Covid 19” via the Ministry of Health’s Instagram account on Wednesday, in response to a question about the validity of the existence of a new strain of “Covid 20”? Some called it “Covid 20”, but it is the same Covid-19 that has existed since December last year and appeared in Wuhan City, China.

She added: According to scientific and medical information received from Britain and some European countries and from the World Health Organization, there is some change in the known Covid-19 and this does not mean that it is life-threatening or there is a big difference, the new strain is the same virus but the rate of infection is faster, but the symptoms and risks to date according to the information available are the same level of the virus that we have known for months, and vaccination now from Pfizer, BioNTech, Moderna or any other company, is still effective even with this slight change that happened to the Covid virus.

She said that to clarify the information, the change in the composition, quality or method of virus infection is not new and exclusive to Covid-19 only, this type of changes occur with viruses continuously and not something new or for the first time, for example the vaccination of influenza is annual and the reason is the occurrence of mutations or changes in viruses and therefore we always renew the vaccination of influenza, this is something normal and there is nothing to be afraid of and if we adhere to precautionary measures of wearing masks and social distancing and using hand sanitizers and avoiding crowded places we can avoid this new strain or the existing strain of Covid-19 in addition to taking the vaccine, we can break the chain of infection and return life to normal gradually.

On the number of doses arrived in the first shipment of (Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine) to Qatar, Dr. Suha Al Bayat said: The number of doses that have arrived is sufficient to cover the categories we have talked about in full, meaning all those over the age of 70 and all those with serious chronic diseases with severe symptoms such as severe asthma, kidney failure, etc., as well as front-line health workers, and she reiterated that the first shipment fully covers these groups.

الدوحة: أوضحت الدكتورة سهى البيات رئيسة قسم التطعيمات في وزارة الصحة حقيقة ما يثار عن السلالة الجديدة لفيروس كورونا التي أطلق عليها البعض “كوفيد 20″، والتي ظهرت في عدد من الدول، مؤكدة أيضاً أن  عدد الجرعات التي وصلت في الشحنة الأولى من لقاح فايرز وبايونتيك إلى قطر تكفي لتغطية الفئات التي لها الأولوية.

وقالت الدكتورة سهى البيات خلال “جلسة الأسئلة والأجوبة المباشرة حول كوفيد 19” عبر حساب وزارة الصحة على إنستغرام، يوم الأربعاء، رداً على سؤال حول صحة وجود سلالة جديدة من “كوفيد 20″؟: هناك من أطلق عليه “كوفيد 20” ولكن هو نفس كوفيد 19 الموجود منذ ديسمبر العام الماضي وبدا في مدينة ووهان في الصين.

وأضافت: حسب المعلومات العلمية والطبية الواردة من بريطانيا وبعض الدول الأوروبية ومن منظمة الصحة العالمية، فإن هناك بعض التغير في كوفيد 19 المعروف وهذا لا يعني أنه خطر أو هناك فارق كبير، السلالة الجديدة هي عبارة عن نفس الفيروس ولكن نسبة العدوى أسرع، لكن الأعراض والمخاطر لغاية اليوم حسب المعلومات المتوفرة هي نفس المستوى للفيروس الذي نعرفه منذ شهور، والتطعيم حالياً سواء من شركتي فايزر وبايونتيك أو موديرنا أو أي شركة أخرى، مازالوا فعّالين حتى مع هذا التغيير الطفيف الذي حدث لفيروس كوفيد.

وقالت إنه لتوضيح المعلومة، فإن التغير في تركيبة أو نوعية أو طريقة عدوى الفيروسات ليست جديدة وليست مختصة بكوفيد 19 فقط، فهذا النوع من التغييرات تحدث مع الفيروسات بشكل مستمر وليس بشئ جديد أو لأول مرة، فعلى سبيل المثال فإن تطعيم الأنفلونزا سنوي والسبب هو حدوث طفرت أو تغييرات في الفيروسات ولهذا نجدد دائماً تطعيم الأنفلونزا، هذا شئ عادي ولا يدعو للخوف وإذا التزمنا بالإجراءات الاحترازية من لبس الكمام والتباعد الاجتماعي واستخدام معقمات اليد وتفادي الأماكن المزدحمة ممكن نحافظ على عدم وصول هذه السلالة أو السلالة المعروفة من كوفيد 19 بالإضافة إذا أخذنا التطعيم نقد نكسر سلسلة العدوى وتعود الحياة إلى طبيعتها تدريجياً.

وبشأن عدد الجرعات التي وصلت في الشحنة الأولى (من لقاح فايزر وبايونتيك) إلى قطر، قالت الدكتورة سهى البيات: عدد الجرعات التي وصلت كافية لتغطية الفئات التي تحدثنا عنها بالكامل، يعني جميع من هم فوق سن الـ70 سنة وجميع أصحاب الأمراض المزمنة الخطيرة ذات الأعراض الشديدة مثل الربو الشديد جداً والفشل الكلوي وغيرها، بالإضافة للعاملين في القطاع الصحي في الخطوط الأمامية، مجددة التأكيد على أن الشحنة الأولى تغطي هذه الفئات بالكامل.
