‘Park and Ride’ space at two Metro stations
افتتاح مواقف «اركن وتنقل» للجمهور في موقعي قرب محطات المترو
Doha: The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) announced yesterday that free parking spaces near Al Qassar Metro Station will open for the public starting from tomorrow and near Al Wakra Metro Station starting from January 26. The two locations can accommodate 700 vehicles, said the Ministry in a press release yesterday.
This comes in the context of MOTC’s “Park and Ride” Project, which provides parking spaces free of charge adjacent to Doha Metro stations. The project aims to encourage vehicle owners to use the modern public transportation systems to and from their destinations in less time and at a lower cost.
Meanwhile, work continues between MOTC and several bodies concerned to complete and deliver free parking spaces in other two locations; Lusail and Education City, which are planned to open in late March.
The “Park and Ride” Project is a part of MOTC’s Public Bus Infrastructure Program. It supports the country’s public transportation network and Doha Metro services for citizens, residents, visitors and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fans.
Additionally, contracts have been awarded for establishing five new bus stations in the context of the same Program in areas of Al Wakra, Lusail, Al Sudan, the Education City and Industrial City and works are expected to complete in the third quarter of 2021.
The “Park and Ride” Project is another example of the considerable attention MOTC pays to providing modern and highly efficient facilities and parking spaces strategically distributed across the country to encourage the public to use country’s modern, sustainable and eco-friendly public transportation.
This will help further improve the services on public roads and at major intersections by achieving smoother traffic flow, less congestion and less carbon emissions.
أعلنت وزارة المواصلات والاتصالات، عن افتتاح مواقف مشروع «اركن وتنقل» المجانية للسيارات للاستخدام من قبل الجمهور في موقعي: القصار في 17 يناير، والوكرة في 26 يناير الحالي.
وتقع مواقف الموقعين قرب محطات المترو، وتتجاوز الطاقة الاستيعابية لهما 700 سيارة، فيما تصل طاقتهما التشغيلية إلى الضعف، وتعمل الوزارة حالياً بالتعاون مع الجهات المعنية على إنهاء أعمال مواقف موقعي لوسيل والمدينة التعليمية، ليتم افتتاحهما نهاية شهر مارس المقبل.
وتهدف هذه المواقف إلى جذب مستخدمي السيارات الخاصة لاستخدام الأنظمة الحديثة في النقل من وإلى الوجهات المختلفة في زمن وتكلفة أقل، وسيوفر مشروع مواقف «اركن وتنقل» الذي يندرج ضمن مشاريع برنامج البنية التحتية لحافلات النقل العام، الدعم لشبكة النقل العام وعمليات تشغيل مترو الدوحة للمستخدمين من المواطنين والمقيمين والزوار والمشجعين في بطولة كأس العالم لكرة القدم 2022.
بالإضافة إلى ذلك تمت ترسية عقود إنشاء 5 محطات للحافلات ضمن مشاريع برنامج البنية التحتية لحافلات النقل العام، موزعة في مناطق الوكرة، ولوسيل، والسودان، والمدينة التعليمية، والمنطقة الصناعية، وسيتم الانتهاء من عمليات إنشائها في الربع الثالث من عام 2021.
ويأتي هذا البرنامج في إطار حرص الوزارة على توفير مرافق ومواقف حديثة ذات كفاءة عالية، تتوزع على مناطق جغرافية رئيسية وحيوية في الدولة، تساعد في استخدام وسائل النقل العامة والحديثة والمستدامة والصديقة للبيئة، بما يساهم في رفع مستوى خدمة الطريق العام والتقاطعات الرئيسية، من حيث انسياب الحركة المرورية وتقليل الازدحامات، وتقليل الانبعاثات الكربونية الناتجة عن استخدام السيارات.
