Minister of Public Health Meets Organ Transplant Recipients and Family of Donor

Doha: HE the Minister of Public Health Dr. Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari met the family of a deceased organ donor whose selfless act of organ donation changed the lives of three people awaiting organ transplants. Surgeons at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) performed the life-saving surgeries last week with the recipients on the road to recovery.
In the first organ donation and transplant procedures performed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, aged 26, donated two kidneys and a liver after his family gave permission to donate his organs. His kidneys were transplanted to two people – a man aged 63 and a 15-year-old female patient (whose transplant procedure was performed at Sidra Medicine). His liver was donated to a 35-year-old woman in another surgery performed by HMC’s highly trained surgeons.
In another selfless act, a young female law student aged 22 donated one of her kidneys to her father. This procedure was performed three weeks ago, and the father is currently recovering under the care of HMC teams.
HE Dr. Al Kuwari met with the family of the deceased donor and thanked them for their altruistic act. She also met with the recipients and their families at Hamad General Hospital and with the young living donor and her father.
“Organ donation is not only an act of true compassion; it also saves lives. The success of Qatar’s organ donation and transplantation programs is something which we can be extremely proud of. We have a single, unified waiting list and we have in place exemplary care and ongoing support for donors and their families,” HE Dr. Al Kuwari said.
“Qatars national strategy for organ donation and transplantation is not only world-leading in terms of the clinical and ethical standards it applies, Qatar also has the depth of clinical expertise and facilities to perform these procedures and provide safe and effective follow-up care for transplant patients.” Her Excellency added.
The Medical Director, Hamad General Hospital, and Director, Qatar Center for Organ Transplantation (QCOT) Dr. Yousuf Al Maslamani, said the team had five kidney transplant procedures scheduled for December with the organs being donated from live donors.
“An organ transplant can be a life-saving procedure and it can also significantly improve the quality of life for someone with chronic organ failure,” said Dr. Al Maslamani. “Now we have emerged from COVID-19 and we are opening up more services, we have been able to restart our organ transplantation program. This could not happen without the multidisciplinary teamwork involving the organ donation team, transplant surgeons, nephrologists, hepatologists, the histocompatibility lab, and the highly skilled nursing staff.”
“We have the technology, facilities and access to the expertise in Qatar to perform these surgeries and we also have overwhelming community support for the organ donation program. Since the Qatar Organ Donor Registry was launched in 2012, more than 430,000 donors have signed up to become an organ donor” he added.

الدوحة: التقت سعادة الدكتورة حنان محمد الكواري وزير الصحة العامة بأسرة متوف كان قد تبرع بأعضائه في سبيل إنقاذ حياة ثلاثة أشخاص في انتظار إجراء عمليات زراعة أعضاء.
وقد أجرى جراحون بمؤسسة حمد الطبية العمليات التي أسهمت في إنقاذ حياة هؤلاء الأشخاص الأسبوع الماضي وهم حاليا في مرحلة التعافي حيث تعد عمليات زراعة الأعضاء التي تم إجراؤها هي الأولى التي تتم منذ بدء جائحة كورونا (كوفيد-19).
وكان المتبرع البالغ من العمر 26 عاما قد تبرع بالكليتين والكبد بعد أن وافقت أسرته على التبرع بأعضائه، وقد أجريت عمليتي زراعة الكلى في سدرة للطب إحداهما لمريض يبلغ من العمر 63 عاما والأخرى لمريضة شابة لم تتجاوز الـ 15 ربيعا، بينما أجريت عملية زراعة الكبد المتبرع بها لمريضة تبلغ من العمر 35 عاما على أيدي جراحين أكفاء بمؤسسة حمد الطبية.
ومن ناحية أخرى، تبرعت طالبة جامعية تبلغ من العمر 22 عاما بكليتها لوالدها خلال عملية جراحية أجريت منذ ثلاثة أسابيع ويخضع الأب حاليا للشفاء تحت إشراف الفريق الطبي بمؤسسة حمد الطبية.
وعبرت سعادة الدكتورة حنان محمد الكواري عن شكرها وتقديرها لأسرة المريض المتوفى على هذه المبادرة الطيبة، كما التقت سعادتها أيضا بمستقبلي الأعضاء المتبرع بها، وأسرهم بمستشفى حمد العام والتقت سعادتها بالشابة المتبرعة ووالدها.
وقالت سعادتها إن التبرع بالأعضاء له معان أعمق من مجرد التعاطف مع الآخرين، فهو يسهم في إنقاذ حياتهم، مشيرة إلى أن نجاح التبرع بالأعضاء في دولة قطر وبرامج زراعة الأعضاء مدعاة للفخر، حيث توجد قائمة انتظار موحدة ونقدم رعاية مثالية ودعما مستمرا للمتبرعين وأسرهم.
وأوضحت أن الاستراتيجية الوطنية للتبرع وزراعة الأعضاء في دولة قطر ليست رائدة على مستوى العالم فحسب من النواحي الطبية والمعايير الأخلاقية التي تطبقها بل إن دولة قطر لديها الخبرات الطبية والمرافق اللازمة لإجراء مثل هذه العمليات وتوفير متابعة آمنة وفعالة لرعاية مرضى زراعة الأعضاء.
من جانبه، كشف الدكتور يوسف المسلماني المدير الطبي بمستشفى حمد العام ومدير مركز قطر لزراعة الأعضاء عن وجود خمس عمليات لزراعة الكلى من المقرر إجراؤها في ديسمبر القادم من خلال خمس متبرعين أحياء.
وقال إن إجراء عمليات زراعة الأعضاء يسهم في إنقاذ الحياة وتحسين جودتها بشكل بالغ لمريض يعاني من فشل مزمن في أحد الأعضاء.
وأضاف أن مؤسسة حمد الطبية استأنفت حاليا المزيد من الخدمات التي تم تعليقها جراء وباء (كوفيد-19) كما تم استئناف العمل ببرنامج زراعة الأعضاء وذلك بفضل الكوادر والفرق الطبية متعددة الاختصاصات من جراحين متخصصين في زراعة الأعضاء وأطباء الكلى، وأطباء الكبد وكوادر مختبرات التطابق النسيجي وكوادر التمريض عالية الكفاءة.
ولفت الدكتور المسلماني إلى وجود التقنيات والمرافق والكفاءات اللازمة في دولة قطر لإجراء مثل هذه العمليات وذلك الدعم الهائل من المجتمع لبرنامج زراعة الأعضاء الذي تلقى منذ تأسيسه وإطلاقه عام 2012، أكثر من 430 ألف متبرع قاموا بتسجيل أنفسهم كمتبرعين بالأعضاء.
