Al Wakra Hospital Launches Acute Pain Treatment Service for Surgery, Burns Patients

Doha: Al Wakra Hospital has started implementing a new patient service, by forming a medical team to treat acute post-operative pain and burn patients under the supervision of a medical and nursing staff.
The medical team includes three nurses who specialize in treating pain under the supervision of a specialized doctor, provided that the team is increased with the expansion of service provision to the rest of the patients.
Consultant Anesthesiology and Chronic Pain medicine at Al Wakra Hospital Dr. Abdullah Nazal said that pain treatment is one of the branches of medicine where multidisciplinary methods are employed to alleviate the suffering caused by pain and improve the quality of life of patients who suffer from pain, especially those with severe cases. The new service focuses on applying the latest scientifically proven guidelines and rules for acute pain management practices.
He indicated that after the patient leaves the surgery, he begins to feel pain and discomfort, which leads the medical team to search for a way to alleviate that. The mission of the medical team specializing in the treatment of acute pain, which follows the patient’s condition since leaving the operating room and entering the recovery room, follows the patients daily until they are declared discharged from the hospital.
Dr. Nazal reviewed the benefits that positively accrue to the improvement of the patient’s health as a result of adopting the method of relieving and treating pain, including feeling physical and psychological comfort, and not being afraid of undergoing another surgery if their health condition so requires, in addition to maintaining a stronger immune system for the patient as a result of the decrease in pain sensation. Therefore, the chance of recovery increases and they can move faster and the chances of exposure to infections and strokes are reduced, and accordingly their stay in the hospital decreases, which entails a lower cost and more beds, which provides the opportunity for other patients to undergo more surgeries, and thus fewer waiting lists than before.
The acute pain treatment team received intensive training for a whole year in the recovery rooms, on how to install devices and follow up their use, as well as intensive theoretical training through many lectures and educational workshops. While the team members, in turn, train the rest of the nurses on a weekly basis, theoretical and practical.
It is expected to expand this service to include the rest of the patients, with more nursing staff being trained and applied in various HMC hospitals.

الدوحة: بدأ مستشفى الوكرة تطبيق خدمة جديدة للمرضى، من خلال تشكيل فريق طبي لعلاج الألم الحاد للمرضى بعد العمليات الجراحية ومرضى الحروق تحت إشراف طاقم طبي وتمريض .
ويضم الفريق الطبي ثلاث ممرضات متخصصات في علاج الألم تحت إشراف طبيب متخصص، على أن يتم زيادة الفريق مع التوسع في تقديم الخدمة لبقية المرضى.
وقال الدكتور عبد الله نزال استشاري علاج الألم والتخدير بمستشفى الوكرة، إن علاج الألم يعد أحد فروع الطب حيث يتم توظيف أساليب متعددة التخصصات، للتخفيف من المعاناة الناتجة عن الألم وتحسين جودة حياة المرضى الذين يعانون من الألم خاصة ذوي الحالات الحادة، حيث تركز الخدمة الجديدة على تطبيق أحدث الإرشادات التوجيهية والقواعد المثبتة علميا في ممارسات إدارة علاج الألم الحاد.
وأشار الى أنه بعد خروج المريض من العملية الجراحية يبدأ الشعور بالألم وعدم الراحة، الأمر الذي يدفع الفريق الطبي للبحث عن وسيلة للتخفيف من ذلك، وتأتي مهمة الفريق الطبي المتخصص في علاج الآلام الحادة الذي يتابع حالة المريض منذ خروجه من غرفة العمليات ودخوله غرفة الإفاقة، حيث يقوم بمتابعته يوميا حتى يتم التصريح بخروجه من المستشفى.
واستعرض الدكتور نزال، الفوائد التي تعود بالإيجاب على تحسن حالة المريض الصحية جراء اتباع أسلوب تخفيف وعلاج الألم، منها الشعور بالراحة الجسدية والنفسية، وعدم الخوف من الخضوع لعملية جراحية أخرى إذا تطلبت حالته الصحية ذلك، الى جانب الحفاظ على جهاز مناعة أقوى للمريض نتيجة تراجع الإحساس بالألم، وبالتالي تزيد فرصة شفائه ويستطيع التحرك بصورة أسرع وتقل فرص تعرضه للالتهابات والجلطات وبناء عليه تقل فترة بقائه بالمستشفى، التي يترتب عليها تكلفة أقل وتوافر المزيد من الأسرة، مما يتيح الفرصة لمرضى آخرين لإجراء المزيد من العمليات الجراحية، وبالتالي تقل قوائم الانتظار عن ذي قبل.
وتلقى فريق علاج الألم الحاد تدريبا مكثفا على مدار عام كامل في غرف الإفاقة، وذلك على كيفية تركيب الأجهزة ومتابعة استخدامها من قبل المريض، فضلا عن التدريب النظري بشكل مكثف من خلال العديد من المحاضرات والورش التعليمية، في حين يقوم أعضاء الفريق بدورهم بتدريب بقية الممرضات بشكل أسبوعي تدريبا نظريا وعمليا.
ومن المتوقع التوسع في هذه الخدمة لتشمل بقية المرضى مع تدريب المزيد من طاقم التمريض وتطبيقها في مختلف مستشفيات مؤسسة حمد الطبية.
