MIA Announces Series of Activities in Celebration of Iraqi Week

Doha: As part of the ongoing Baghdad: Eye’s Delight exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA), the museum is hosting a series of Iraqi-influenced events such as Iraqi film screenings, curator-led tours, calligraphy workshops, and panel discussions for the wider community to mark ‘Iraqi Week’ from 17 to 23 February 2023.

This historic ‘Iraqi Week’ also marks the last week of the spectacular Baghdad Eye Delight exhibition that features objects on loan from 22 world-renowned institutions, including the Louvre, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Benaki Museum, the Vatican and the Barjeel Foundation. Visitors are recommended to not miss experiencing this exhibition that promises to take them on an imaginary tour across centuries, highlighting Baghdad’s role as a city of power, scholarship, and riches.

MIA will be hosting a range of activities, including educational workshops on Kufic calligraphy and lectures to promote this significant week that will leave an imprint upon Qatar’s cultural landscape. A lecture titled ‘A Personal Journey of Modern Architecture of Baghdad’ will be held by prolific architect Hisham A. Munir on 17 February 2023, and a panel discussion featuring Dr. Alexandrine, Rob Carter and Andrew Petersen on ‘The Abbasids in Baghdad and their link with Qatar’ will take place on 20 February 2023.

Children can look forward to various activities such as Round City Lego, Playing Cards inspired by El Malwiya, Baghdad Café Worksheet, Arabic letters soft play (Arabic calligraphy that took place in Abbasid Iraq) every day from 12 pm to 4 pm during this week, as well as story time and colouring related to Baghdad at the Library.

Iraqi Week will also feature two curator-led tours in the Baghdad: Eye’s Delight exhibition on 19 and 23 February 2023 respectively, as well as two Iraqi films titled ‘Marshes’ and a film on ‘Latif Al Ani’ – popularly known as the father of Iraqi photography, will be showcased at the venue.

The Baghdad: Eye’s Delight exhibition celebrates the capital of Iraq as one of the most important and influential cities in the Islamic world and is on view at MIA’s Temporary Exhibition Gallery until 25 February 2023. Jointly curated by Dr. Julia Gonnella, Director, Museum of Islamic Art and the museum’s curatorial team: Dr. Mounia Chekhab Abudaya, Dr. Tara Desjardins, Nicoletta Fazio and Simone Struth – the display takes the visitor on an imaginary tour across centuries, highlighting Baghdad’s role as a city of power, scholarship, and riches.

الدوحة: أعلن متحف الفن الإسلامي عن استضافة سلسلة من الفعاليات المتعلقة بالعراق، بالتزامن مع معرض /بغداد ـ قرة العين/ الذي يحتضنه المتحف خلال الفترة من 17 إلى 23 فبراير الجاري.

وتتمثل هذه الفعاليات في عروض الأفلام العراقية، والجولات برفقة القيمين، وورش فن الخط، والجلسات النقاشية الموجهة لكافة أفراد المجتمع، وذلك للاحتفال بــ /أسبوع العراق/.

كما يوافق /أسبوع العراق/، الذي يعتبر حدثا تاريخيا، الأسبوع الأخير من فعاليات معرض /بغداد – قرة العين/ الذي يضم قطعا فنية معارة من 22 مؤسسة عالمية مرموقة، منها متحف اللوفر، ومتحف المتروبوليتان للفنون، ومتحف بيناكي، والفاتيكان، ومؤسسة بارجيل للفنون.

إلى ذلك، سيستضيف متحف الفن الإسلامي باقة من الأنشطة، منها ورش عمل تعليمية عن الخط الكوفي، ومحاضرات للترويج لهذا الأسبوع الذي سيترك بصمته على المشهد الثقافي في قطر، وفي هذا الصدد، ستقام محاضرة بعنوان /رحلة شخصية في رحاب العمارة الحديثة في بغداد/ يقدمها المهندس المعماري هشام منير بعد غد /الجمعة/، كما ستقام حلقة نقاشية يشارك فيها كل من الدكتور أليكساندرين، وروب كارتر، وآندرو بيترسن حول /العباسيين في بغداد وصلاتهم بقطر/ وذلك في 20 فبراير الجاري.

وأعد المتحف للصغار باقة من الأنشطة التي تستهدفهم من قبيل: /ليغو المدينة الدائرية/، وبطاقات اللعب المستوحاة من المئذنة الملوية، وورقة عمل مقهى بغداد، ولعبة الأحرف العربية للصغار (الخط العربي الذي ساد في العراق العباسية)، وتقام تلك الأنشطة كل يوم من الساعة 12 ظهرا حتى الساعة 4 مساء خلال هذا الأسبوع، بالإضافة إلى أنشطة أخرى مثل /وقت القصة/ و/ورقة تلوين/ متعلقة ببغداد في مكتبة المتحف.

ومن المرتقب أن يتم خلال أسبوع العراق، تنظيم جولتين برفقة القيمين في معرض /بغداد – قرة العين/ وذلك يومي 19 و23 فبراير، كما سيشهد عرضين لفيلمين عراقيين؛ الأول بعنوان /الأهوار/، والآخر عن /لطيف العاني/ الذي يعد الأب المؤسس لفن التصوير العراقي، وسيعرض الفيلمان في الموقع ذاته.

جدير بالذكر أن معرض /بغداد – قرة العين/، يحتفي بالعاصمة العراقية التي تعد إحدى أكثر المدن أهمية وتأثيرا في العالم الإسلامي، ويقام في قاعة المعارض المؤقتة في متحف الفن الإسلامي حتى 25 فبراير الجاري، ويتولى التقييم الفني للمعرض كل من الدكتورة جوليا غونيلا مدير متحف الفن الإسلامي، وفريق التقييم الفني في المتحف، ويضم: سيمون ستروث، والدكتورة منية شخاب أبو دية، والدكتورة تارا ديجاردان، ونيكوليتا فازبو، ويأخذ المعرض زواره في جولة خيالية عبر القرون، يسلط من خلالها الضوء على دور بغداد كمركز من مراكز النفوذ والعلم والثروات.
