Moscow: A Russian geneticist has commented on recent reports of the discovery of a new fatal disease that affects only men with serious health problems. In a press statement, Dr. Medina Azova, a professor at the Department of Biology and General Genetics at the Russian University of Peoples’ Friendship in Moscow, indicated that the disease, called “Vixas” syndrome, does not represent a global threat, as it is the result of a rare physical mutation of a gene. Earlier, there were reports that scientists discovered a new syndrome that affects only men, and that it would cause the death of the person infected with it in 40% of cases.

موسكو: علقت اختصاصية روسية في مجال علم الوراثة على تقارير وردت مؤخرًا عن اكتشاف مرض قاتل جديد يُصيب الرجال فقط بمشاكل صحية خطيرة. وفي تصريح صحفي، أشارت الدكتورة مدينة آزوفا، الأستاذة بقسم البيولوجيا وعلم الوراثة العام في الجامعة الروسية للصداقة بين الشعوب في موسكو، إلى أنّ الداء الذي أطلق عليه اسم متلازمة «فيكساس» لا يمثل تهديدًا عالمي الأبعاد، لكونه نتيجة لطفرة جسدية نادرة لأحد الجينات. وفي وقت سابق وردت تقارير عن اكتشاف العلماء متلازمة جديدة تصيب الرجال فقط، ومن شأنها أن تسبب وفاة المصاب بها في 40% من الحالات.
