MME shifts 78 turtle nests to safer place at Fuwairit Beach
البلدية تنقل 78 عشاً للسلاحف البحرية إلى موقع الأعشاش المحمي بشاطئ فويرط
The Peninsula – Doha:
The team for the conservation of sea turtles at the Department of Protection and Wildlife of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has shifted 78 turtle nests to the protected nests’ site at Fuwairit Beach.
The project of protecting the endangered sea turtle, hawksbill, is being implemented smoothly following all the precautionary measures to ensure the safety of the members of project team, said the Ministry in a statement.
The necessary measurements of turtles were taken, it was cleaned from snails and treatments were provided to those with wounds.
The number of nests is expected more this year compared to the previous year where it ached 92 nests.
So far, the number of nest this year reached 78. The nesting season will continue until the first week of the month of June so more nests are expected for this year.
The sea turtle conservation project, under the supervision of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment and funded by Qatar Petroleum is being implemented by the Center for Environmental Sciences at Qatar University in cooperation with a team from the Department of Protection and Wildlife.

أعلنت وزارة البلدية والبيئة -متمثلة في إدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية- استمرار أعمال مشروع حماية السلاحف البحرية صقرية المنقار المهددة بالانقراض، بشكل جيد، وسط اتخاذ الاحتياطات كافة التي تضمن سلامة الفريق العامل بالمشروع.
وشهد العمل الميداني بالمشروع، خلال الأسابيع الماضية، تسارعاً في عمليات التعشيش في ظل ارتفاع درجات الحرارة، وجرى نقل 78 عشاً لموقع الأعشاش المحمي بشاطئ فويرط، وأخذ القياسات اللازمة للسلاحف وتنظيفها من القواقع ومعالجة بعض الجروح بها.
ويمثّل هذا الرقم نسبة عالية مما جرى تحقيقه العام الماضي، وهو 92 عشاً، رغم أن موسم التعشيش يمتدّ حتى الأسبوع الأول من الشهر المقبل.
ويجري العمل في نطاق مشروع حماية السلاحف، الذي يتم تحت إشراف وزارة البلدية والبيئة، وبتمويل من «قطر للبترول»، وتنفيذ مركز العلوم البيئية بجامعة قطر، بالتعاون مع فريق من إدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية.
ويغطي المشروع الشواطئ الشمالية الشرقية بالدولة (شاطئ راس لفان، وحويلة، والجساسية، والمرونة، وفويرط، والغارية، والمفير)، والجزر (أم تيس، وراس ركن).
