Labour Ministry investigates delayed wage payment for expats

QNA – Doha:

In response to the late settlement of salaries, a small number of expatriate workers conducted a peaceful protest in the Msheireb area on 22nd May.

Following an immediate investigation in cooperation with relevant entities, the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (ADLSA) has taken steps to ensure that all salaries will be promptly paid in the coming days and legal action has been taken against the companies involved, for violating the Wage Protection System (WPS).

The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs reminds all employers in the strongest of terms that it has distributed clear instructions to companies on their legal obligations during the coronavirus pandemic.

Any company found violating these obligations will be penalised in line with Qatar’s Labour Laws. Workers are encouraged to contact the 24/7 multi-language hotline service (92727) to lodge work-related grievances against their employers.

Companies can access additional financing through the directives announced by HH the Amir to provide financial and economic incentives to the private sector during the COVID-19 pandemic. An amount of QR 3 billion has been allocated to local banks to support companies with salaries and rental payments.

باشرت وزارة التنمية الإدارية والعمل والشؤون الاجتماعية بفتح تحقيق فوري في واقعة تأخر دفع أجور عدد من العمالة الوافدة الذين تجمهروا في منطقة مشيرب أمس الجمعة، وذلك بالتنسيق مع الجهات المختصة، مؤكدة اتخاذ مجموعة من الخطوات لضمان التزام أصحاب العمل بدفع الأجور في الأيام القليلة المقبلة.

كما قامت الوزارة باتخاذ كافة الإجراءات القانونية ضد الشركات التي انتهكت نظام حماية الأجور.

وأهابت وزارة التنمية الإدارية والعمل والشؤون الاجتماعية بجميع أصحاب العمل والشركات بضرورة اتباع تعليمات الوزارة بشأن التزاماتهم القانونية خلال أزمة تفشي فيروس كورونا المستجد (كوفيد-19)، مشددة في الوقت نفسه على أنها لن تتساهل في فرض عقوبات بحق الشركات المخالفة بناءً على ما جاء في قانون العمل.

وأكدت أنه يمكن للعامل تقديم أي شكوى عمالية من خلال خدمة الشكاوى العمالية عبر الرسائل النصية (92727)، والمتوفرة على مدار الساعة بعدة لغات.

وقد وجه حضرة صاحب السمو أمير البلاد المفدى بدعم وتقديم محفزات مالية واقتصادية للقطاع الخاص خلال أزمة تفشي فيروس كورونا، والتي يمكن للشركات الحصول على تمويل إضافي من خلالها، حيث تم تخصيص ضمانات للبنوك المحلية بما قيمته 3 مليارات ريال لدعم الشركات المتضررة لدفع الرواتب والإيجارات.
