Qatar strengthens its international partnership to protect tourism gains
قطر تعزز شراكتها الدولية لحماية مكتسبات السياحة
Doha: The World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) co-organised a high-level design thinking session on the heels of the Doha Forum, a global platform that promotes the interchange of ideas, discourse, policy making, and action-oriented dialogue.
This session brought together over 30 relevant experts from the public and private sectors, including international and non-profit organisations, funding agencies, entrepreneurs, and research and innovation centres. Discussions focused on generating innovative, actionable proposals and establishing commitments for continued collaboration and implementation. HRH Princess Dana Firas of Jordan joined the afternoon session of the workshop to provide feedback on the generated projects during presentations.
The proposals included initiatives to empower local communities, make travel accessible for all, provide educational opportunities in the tourism field, as well as develop ecologically sustainable models.
The design thinking session followed on the participation of UNWTO Secretary-General, Zurab Pololikashvili, and QNTC Secretary-General and GCEO of Qatar Airways, H E Akbar Al Baker, in the Doha Forum Plenary Session: Protecting the Benefits of Tourism in a Multilateral World, which convened state leaders to explore what can be done through collaboration to reduce the negative impacts of conflict on travel and tourism and to bolster tourism as a driver of peace.
Al Baker said: “Tourism is an important sector not only in terms of tangible economic impact, but also for building bridges of understanding between peoples and changing deeply-rooted misperceptions. We are proud of the role tourism and aviation has played in creating more awareness and understanding of our country, and of the policy of openness which has made us the most welcoming country in the Middle East.”
He added, “We are pleased to see the dialogue on tourism take its rightful place on the global agenda, and to share these important insights from the Middle East with our counterparts around the world through the wide-reaching Doha Forum platform.”
Pololikashvili spoke of how “Education is one of my main priorities. Thanks to the Tourism Online Academy, a joint initiative between UNWTO and IE University, we would have the opportunity to train, democratize and scale the way people are educated regarding the tourism sector. Our vision is to provide global opportunities to people who are interested in the tourism sector and address the gap between jobs, skills and education.”
QNTC recently became the Destination Partner of the UNWTO Tourism Online Academy.
استضافت منظمة السياحة العالمية التابعة للأمم المتحدة، بالتعاون مع المجلس الوطني للسياحة، جلسة رفيعة المستوى للتفكير التصميمي، وذلك على هامش منتدى الدوحة 2019.
تمحورت النقاشات التي تخللت الجلسة حول ضرورة تطوير مقترحات مبتكرة وقابلة للتنفيذ، وتحديد الالتزامات الواجبة ومواصلة التعاون في تنفيذ هذه المقترحات. وقد انضمت من الأردن صاحبة السمو الملكي الأميرة دانا فراس سفيرة النوايا الحسنة لدى منظمة اليونسكو ورئيس مجلس إدارة الجمعية الوطنية للمحافظة على البتراء، إلى الجلسة حيث قدمت رؤيتها حول المشاريع المقترحة خلال العروض التقديمية.
وعي
وقال سعادة السيد أكبر الباكر، الأمين العام للمجلس الوطني للسياحة والرئيس التنفيذي لمجموعة الخطوط الجوية القطرية: «إن أهمية صناعة السياحة لا تنحصر في كونها تمثل مورداً اقتصادياً كبيراً للعديد من الدول، ولكنها يمكن أن تكون أيضاً وسيلة لبناء جسور التفاهم بين الشعوب وتغيير المفاهيم الخاطئة. ونحن فخورون بالدور الذي يؤديه قطاعا السياحة والطيران في قطر لتعزيز الوعي والمعرفة ببلدنا، وبسياسة الانفتاح التي جعلتنا الأكثر ترحيباً بالزوار في منطقة الشرق الأوسط».
وأضاف سعادته قائلاً: «يسعدنا أن نرى الحوار حول السياحة يأخذ مكانه الذي يستحقه ضمن جدول الاهتمامات العالمية، وأن نشارك هذه الأفكار المهمة التي تخرج من الشرق الأوسط مع نظرائنا حول العالم ومن خلال منبر منتدى الدوحة واسع النطاق والتأثير».
أكاديمية
وتحدث سعادة السيد بولوليكشفيلي الأمين العام لمنظمة السياحة العالمية التابعة للأمم المتحدة قائلاً: «إن التعليم هو إحدى أولوياتي الرئيسية. وبفضل إطلاق الأكاديمية السياحية الرقمية، وهي مبادرة مشتركة بين منظمة السياحة العالمية وجامعة IE، سوف يتاح لنا تقديم فرص التدريب اللازم للأشخاص وإضفاء الطابع الديمقراطي والمساواة في الكيفية التي يتم من خلالها تقديم التعليم السياحي حول العالم. وتتمثل رؤيتنا في توفير فرص عالمية لهؤلاء المهتمين بقطاع السياحة وسد الفجوة القائمة بين الوظائف والمهارات والتعليم.»
تحديات
وفي إطار الجهود الرامية لتطوير حلول عالمية للتحديات التي تواجه صناعة السياحة حول العالم، أصبح المجلس الوطني للسياحة مؤخراً شريك الوجهة المؤسس للأكاديمية السياحية الرقمية التابعة لمنظمة السياحة العالمية، وهي أول أكاديمية من نوعها تحظى بدعم الأمم المتحدة التي تهدف إلى تحقيق المساواة وإرساء المعايير المهنية في التعليم السياحي وبناء القدرات.
