QIS students plant trees as part of beautification drive
طلاب مدرسة قطر العالمية يزرعون الأشجار كجزء من حملة التجميل
The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) yesterday participated with students from Qatar International School in planting trees as part of “Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees” campaign.
The initiative is implemented by the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar. As part of the campaign, 60 trees were planted at Legtaifiya Street Development Project by the students.
There was a presentation about the importance of environmental preservation, planting trees and increasing green areas.
While addressing the programme, Emma Symonds, assistant head of Primary School at Qatar International School highlighted the positive impact of the campaign on the formation of the child’s personality and awareness regarding the preservation of the environment. She thanked Ashghal for involving the students.
The project emphasises that protecting and preserving the environment is the duty of everyone in the community and draws students towards achieving the goals of the country and carrying out voluntary work to preserve the environment in Qatar.
As part of the campaign, scheduled to run until the end of 2021, weekly events are carried out with the participation of students from various educational institutions.
Legtaifiya Street Development Project involves planting 642 trees, 34,340sq m of green areas, about 60 seats, and 10km of pedestrian and cycle paths.
The committee works under the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), in co-ordination with several ministries and other entities including the Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Culture and Sports, Qatar Museums Authority, Qatar Railway Company, and the Private Engineering Office. The committee is responsible for five major tasks including the construction of central public parks, provision of dedicated lanes for pedestrians and bicycles, development of the Doha Corniche, development of Central Doha and increasing afforestation and greenery areas.
The committee’s work will enhance sustainability through minimising environmental pollution, reducing emission of CO2 through and conservation of energy resources. It also focuses on provision of more public transport options aiming at reduced use of private cars and improve lifestyle through clean and safe transportation. It also works for ensuring a healthy environment within residential neighbourhoods and places of public gatherings through increased afforestation and landscaping, which will greatly help in reducing the temperature in the surroundings.
قامت هيئة الأشغال العامة (أشغال) أمس، وبمشاركة 60 طالباً من مدرسة قطر العالمية، بزراعة 60 شجرة في مشروع تطوير شارع لقطيفية، استكمالاً لحملة «تجميل قطر وعيالنا يزرعون شجرة»، التي أطلقتها لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة مؤخراً. وتم شرح بعض المعلومات خلال الفعالية عن المشروع، وعن أهمية الحفاظ على البيئة وزراعة الأشجار وزيادة المسطحات الخضراء.
قدمت السيدة إيما سيمنز مساعد مدير المرحلة الابتدائية بمدرسة قطر العالمية، الشكر لـ «أشغال» على إتاحة الفرصة لطلاب المدرسة للمشاركة في تشجير قطر، موضحة التأثير الإيجابي على تكوين شخصية الطفل ووعيه فيما يتعلق بالحفاظ على البيئة.
وتنفذ لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة حملة «تجميل قطر وعيالنا يزرعون شجرة»، بهدف نشر الوعي بين طلاب المدارس حول أهمية زراعة الأشجار وغرس القيم البيئية في نفوسهم، والتأكيد على أن حماية البيئة والحفاظ عليها واجب على كل فرد في المجتمع، وبالتالي تشجيع الطلاب على المشاركة في تحقيق أهداف الدولة، والقيام بأعمال تطوعية من شأنها الحفاظ على البيئة في دولة قطر.
وسيتم من خلال الحملة تنفيذ فعاليات أسبوعية بمشاركة العديد من الطلاب من مراحل التعليم المختلفة، لزراعة الأشجار في قطر على مدار 8 أشهر، على أن تستمر الحملة حتى نهاية عام 2021.
من الجدير بالذكر أن مشروع تطوير شارع لقطيفية يتضمن زراعة 642 شجرة، وزراعة حوالي 34,340 متراً مربعاً من المسطحات الخضراء، وحوالي 60 مقعداً، بالإضافة إلى تنفيذ 10 كيلو مترات من مسارات المشاة والدراجات الهوائية.
وتعمل لجنة الإشراف على تجميل الطرق والأماكن العامة بالدولة بالتنسيق مع عدة وزارات وهيئات حكومية بالدولة كوزارة المواصلات والاتصالات ووزارة الثقافة والرياضة وهيئة المتاحف وشركة سكك الحديد القطرية والمكتب الهندسي الخاص وغيرها، وتتضمن أعمال اللجنة 5 مهام رئيسية تشمل بناء حدائق عامة مركزية، وتوفير مسارات خاصة للمشاة والدراجات الهوائية، وتطوير كورنيش الدوحة، وتطوير منطقة الدوحة المركزية، بالإضافة إلى أعمال التشجير وزيادة المسطحات الخضراء.
