MME organizes an awareness campaign for turtle hatchery season
“البلدية” تنظم فعالية توعوية بموسم فقس السلاحف
The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME)’s Environmental Protection and Wildlife Department, in co-operation with the Public Relations Department, conducted an event at Fuwairit beach on Friday evening to raise awareness about the endangered Hawksbill turtles.
The event coincided with the hatching season of the turtles.
The event was attended by Omar Salim al-Nuaimi, director of the Environmental Protection and Wildlife Department; Nasser Abdulrahman al-Sarami, director of the Public Relations Department; and Ali Saleh al-Marri, head of the Wildlife Section, in addition to a number of MME employee and the participating public.
Al-Nuaimi said the MME was keen to organise the awareness event during the hatching season of the turtles and release newly hatched turtles to the sea before the public, in addition to informing them about the importance of maintaining biological diversity and marine life in Qatar.
He stressed the importance of the project and the need to protect these endangered species. He also appreciated the considerable public presence at the event and the participation of children in the release of turtles into the sea.
The event included a presentation introducing the public to the hatching season with the aim of protecting the endangered turtles, where a detailed explanation of the project was given.
In addition, awareness brochures and flyers were distributed among the public and a field visit was also conducted to give the participants an opportunity to watch the release of newly hatched turtles into the sea.
The project comes within the framework of the efforts undertaken to protect sea turtles under the supervision of the MME, financed by Qatar Petroleum and implemented by Qatar University in co-operation with a team from the Environmental Protection and Wildlife Department.
نظمت وزارة البلدية والبيئة ممثلة بإدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية بالتعاون مع ادارة العلاقات العامة مساء أمس (الجمعة ) فعالية توعوية مصاحبة لموسم فقس السلاحف البحرية صقرية المنقار المهددة بالانقراض وذلك بشاطئ فويرط.
حضر الفعالية كلاً من السيد عمر سالم النعيمي مدير إدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية، والسيد ناصر عبدالرحمن الصرامي مدير إدارة العلاقات العامة والسيد علي صالح المري رئيس قسم الحياة الفطرية وعدد من موظفي الوزارة وعدد من الجمهور المشاركين بالفعالية.
وبهذه المناسبة ، قال السيد عمر سالم النعيمي مدير إدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية بالوزارة أن تنظيم هذه الفعالية المصاحبة لموسم فقس السلاحف والحرص على مشاركة الجمهور في اطلاق السلاحف الى البحر، يأتي بهدف اطلاع الجمهور بمختلف فئاته على التنوع البيولوجي والثروات البحرية الذي تتمتع بها بيئة دولة قطر.
وأكد على أهمية التوعية بهذا المشروع وضرورة المحافظة على هذا النوع من الكائنات المهدد بالانقراض. كما أشاد بالحضور المميز من الجمهور وحرصهم للتعرف على موسم السلاحف ومشاركة الأطفال في عملية إطلاق صغار السلاحف صقرية المنقار الى البحر. مؤكداً على حرص الإدارة على تنظيم مثل هذه الفعاليات التوعوية للجمهور في المستقبل.
وقد شملت الفعالية تقديم عرض مرئي تعريفي للحضور عن موسم حماية السلاحف من الانقراض. حيث قام عدد من موظفي الوزارة بتقديم شرح مفصل حول مشروع حماية السلاحف بدء بتعشيش السلاحف الى موسم فقس السلاحف. كما تم عرض نتائج وانجازات المواسم السابقة، وما تم التوصل اليه من نتائج خلال هذا الموسم. كما توزيع منشورات توعوية للجمهور بأهمية هذا المشروع. كما تم تنظيم زيارات ميدانية للمشاركين، لحضور عمليات إطلاق صغار السلاحف الى البحر.
جدير بالذكر أن هذا المشروع يأتي في إطار حماية السلاحف البحرية الذي يتم تحت إشراف وزارة البلدية والبيئة وبتمويل من قطر للبترول وتنفيذ جامعة قطر بالتعاون مع فريق من ادارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية.
