UN Chief praises Qatar’s support to Palestine

Doha: The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed his thanks and appreciation for the support provided by the State of Qatar to Palestine.
This came in a statement by Deputy Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, in which he said that “the Secretary-General would like to acknowledge with much appreciation the recently announced support of Qatar to Palestine, which will be key in helping address economic and humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people.
“The Secretary-General furthermore welcomes the continued excellent cooperation between the State of Qatar and the UN in implementing critical humanitarian and economic programs in the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” he said.
The Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani had directed allocation of $480m for the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. The support aimed to help the Palestinian people to obtain their necessary life needs in the difficult circumstances imposed by the Israeli occupation forces, and the decline in the international humanitarian support provided to them and to the related UN programs.
أعرب سعادة السيد أنطونيو غوتيريش، الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة عن شكره وتقديره الكبير للدعم الذي تقدمه دولة قطر لفلسطين.
جاء ذلك في تصريح أدلى به اليوم فرحان حق نائب المتحدث الرسمي باسم الأمم المتحدة .
وقال فرحان حق إن “الأمين العام يعرب عن شكره وتقديره الكبير للدعم الذي أعلنت عنه مؤخراً قطر لفلسطين”.
وأضاف أن هذا الدعم “سيكون عنصراً أساسياً لتلبية الاحتياجات الاقتصادية والإنسانية للشعب الفلسطيني”. كما رحب الأمين العام بالتعاون المستمر الذي وصفه بـــ “الممتاز” بين دولة قطر والأمم المتحدة في تنفيذ البرامج الإنسانية والاقتصادية المهمة في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة.
وكان حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى (حفظه الله) وجه بتخصيص مبلغ 480 مليون دولار للأشقاء الفلسطينيين في كل من الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة وذلك لمساعدة الشعب الفلسطيني الشقيق في الحصول على احتياجاته الحياتية الضرورية في ظلّ الظروف الصعبة المفروضة عليهم من قبل قوات الاحتلال الاسرائيلي وتراجع الدعم الدولي الانساني المقدّم لهم ولبرامج الأمم المتحدة الخاصة بالشعب الفلسطيني.
