PM launches activities of ‘Doha-The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019’

The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani on Sunday inaugurated Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019, a year-long programme aimed at empowering the youth for sustainable development.

The event, held under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, was organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sports in collaboration with the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF) and Qatar Center for Cultural and Heritage Events.

Doha is the sixth capital chosen to celebrate the Islamic youth. Under the motto Youth is the Power of the Nation, an array of special events and activities will be organised in Qatar this year as part of celebrations of Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019. The activities will feature a number of programmes and festivals with the participation of youth delegations from various Islamic countries. The sessions will help youth discuss current issues and emphasise the need to empower young people to manage public affairs and achieve sustainable development strategies.

The activities are also aimed at strengthening friendship and respect between Islamic countries. The events reflect Doha’s keenness to be an ideal place for young people to interact and discuss issues that concern them.

The opening was attended by ministers, senior officials from Islamic countries, ambassadors, representatives of ICYF and youth delegates.

Addressing the gathering, ICYF president and vice-president of World Ethnosport Confederation Taha Ayhan said Qatari youth occupies high position in sustainable development programmes in their homeland. “Young people are a major resource and an important component of the strategy to develop Qatar at both regional and international levels.”

He stressed the need for young Muslims to have constructive, critical thinking and the spirit of responsibility to actively contribute to the building of their communities and the renaissance of their countries and make a brighter future.

Director of Youth Affairs Department at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Hussein Rashid al-Kubaisi said the ministry has provided all its capabilities, expertise and experiences to organise the activities. The events will include the launch of the Doha Youth Innovation Award, the Doha Forum for Islamic Youth, the organisation of the Doha Oasis for Innovation and the hosting of the Doha Youth Camp for Voluntary and Humanitarian Work, all of which will be completed by the end of this year.

“The motto of the event demonstrates the role being played by young people in the renaissance of Islamic societies,” he said.

Saeed al-Marri, vice-chairman of Qatari Center of Social Cultural for the Deaf, expressed his happiness for the selection of Doha as the Capital of Islamic Youth 2019. Al-Marri observed that the selection reflected the position of Qatar and its support to youth and its keenness to empower them, adding that Qatari youth is set to participate in the events. He stressed the activities will contribute significantly to cultural rapprochement among youths in various countries and help them share their experiences and ideas.

Dr. Issa al-Hur, head of Youth Development and Empowerment Section at the Ministry of Culture and Sports, Dr Hareb al-Jabri, executive director of Qatar Scientific Club, Muayed al-Qahtani, head of Public Relations at the Qatar Cultural and Heritage Events Center and Noura Tamimi, vice president of the Youth Advisory Committee of the Minister of Culture and Sports were also present.

The key of Doha – The Capital of Islamic Youth 2019- was handed over during the ceremony. The key will remain in Doha throughout 2019 and it will be handed over to the country that will host the Youth Capital of 2020.

Doha was chosen as Capital of Islamic Youth 2019 after the activities of Al Quds as the Capital of Islamic Youth for the year 2018 came to an end. The selection came in recognition of Qatar’s efforts in supporting and empowering the Islamic youth.

تحت رعاية حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، افتتح معالي الشيخ عبدالله بن ناصر بن خليفة آل ثاني رئيس مجلس الوزراء وزير الداخلية، أمس، فعاليات «الدوحة عاصمة للشباب الإسلامي لعام 2019» تحت شعار «الأمة بشبابها». حضر الحفل عدد من أصحاب السعادة الوزراء، وعدد من أصحاب السعادة أعضاء السلك الدبلوماسي المعتمدين لدى الدولة.

كما حضر ضيوف دولة قطر من كبار الشخصيات بالدول العربية والإسلامية، وممثلون عن منتدى التعاون الإسلامي للشباب، وحشد كبير من الشباب، حفل انطلاق فعاليات الدوحة عاصمة الشباب الإسلامي 2019، والتي تنظمها وزارة الثقافة والرياضة، بالتعاون مع منتدى التعاون الإسلامي للشباب، وبإشراف مركز قطر للفعاليات الثقافية والتراثية.

تخلل الحفل كلمات لعدد من الوزراء المشاركين، للوقوف على أهم قضايا القطاع الشبابي في الدول الإسلامية، والدور الأساسي للشباب في صناعة مستقبل أفضل يقوم على دعم استراتيجيات التنمية المستدامة للأجيال المقبلة انطلاقاً من دعم الشباب وتمكينهم، وذلك على مختلف مستوياتهم.

وفي هذا الصدد، أعرب سعادة اللواء جبريل الرجوب، رئيس المجلس الأعلى للشباب والرياضة في فلسطين، عن شكره لدولة قطر والتي تسلمت مشعل عاصمة الشباب الإسلامي من القدس الشريف 2018، مؤكدا على الطابع المركزي للقضية الفلسطينية والقدس الشريف بالنسبة للأمة الإسلامية جمعاء وضرورة الدفاع عنها، مؤكدا على الدور المحوري للشباب بهذا الخصوص.

وهنأ الرجوب الشعب القطري بتسمية الدوحة كعاصمة للشباب الإسلامي، معتبرا أن الاختيار مثاليا نظرا لما تقدمه قطر للشباب والرياضة، حتى باتت نموذجا نفتخر به في العالم العربي والإسلامي.

بدوره، تقدم السيد طه أيهن، رئيس منتدى التعاون الإسلامي للشباب ICYF، بشكره لدولة قطر ولسعادة السيد صلاح بن غانم العلي وزير الثقافة والرياضة وللجنة المنظمة لفعاليات «الدوحة عاصمة للشباب الإسلامي 2019»، معربا عن تطلعه بأن يكون هذا العام في الدوحة حافلا بالفعاليات التي تهم الشباب وتسهم في نشر قيم السلام والعدالة والتمكين.

وأضاف: إن اختيار الدوحة عاصمة للشباب الإسلامي فرصة ذهبية لتبادل الخبرات والممارسات بين الشباب.

وتابع قائلا: «بالرغم من التحديات التي تواجهها الجغرافيا الإسلامية، يجب أن يحتفظ الشباب بفكر نقدي مليء بالتفاؤل والعمق».

بينما ألقى كلمة وزارة الثقافة والرياضة خلال الحفل السيد سعيد المري، نائب رئيس مجلس إدارة المركز القطري الثقافي الاجتماعي للصم، عبر خلالها عن سعادته باختيار الدوحة عاصمة الشباب الإسلامي 2019 بالإجماع، ما يعكس مكانة دولة قطر في دعمها للشباب، والحرص الدائم على تمكينهم.

وأبدى سعادة بالغة بأن يكون تنظيم الحفل من جانب الشباب القطري، «والذي أبدى حماسة كبيرة في هذا التنظيم لتخرج الاحتفالية بالشكل الذي يليق بدولة قطر دعماً للشباب، وتعزيزاً لمكانتهم، فضلا على الحضور الفاعل للشباب في جميع الفعاليات التي ستشهدها فعاليات احتفالية الدوحة عاصمة الشباب الإسلامي على مدار العام».

وأشار المري إلى أن الفعاليات ستساهم بشكل كبير في تحقيق التقارب الثقافي بين الشباب، وعلى تبادل الخبرات والأفكار فيما بينهم، لتشكل كل هذه المكونات انطلاقة جديدة للشباب لخدمة أمتهم، وهو الأمر الذي يعزز من الشعار الذي ترفعه الاحتفالية، وهو «الأمة بشبابها.

وكان حفل الافتتاح قد انطلق بتلاوة آيات بينات من الذكر الحكيم لأحد الشباب مباشرة من القدس الشريف، في دلالة رمزية على مركزية القضية الفلسطينية، وتسلم الدوحة للمشعل من القدس.

كما تم عرض فيديو يستعرض الدول التي استضافت عاصمة الشباب الإسلامي وآخر يتضمن رسالة الشباب الإسلامي.

وفي ذات السياق، تم عرض فيديو الشباب الإسلامي وشعار «الأمة بشبابها»، والأغنية الخاصة بالاحتفالية، ثم فيديو تم خلاله استعراض الفعاليات الرئيسية للدوحة عاصمة للشباب الإسلامي 2019، ليسدل الستار عن الحفل بصورة جماعية.

وتميز الحفل، بمشاركة كبيرة من الشباب الذين عبروا في كلماتهم عن الهواجس التي تنتابهم بشأن قضاياهم، إذ بسطوا أفكارهم الخاصة لكيفية مقاربة القضايا الشبابية.
